You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Our reports went out today. We're running a sweepstake as to a) who the first parent will be to call up/email in to complain and b) how long after the end of school will it be.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 13/07/2021 20:56

Child off isolating. Parent has rung in because she wants work set. He did fuck all through lockdown 3, didn't engage at all. Doubt he will do anything I set. Another bloody waste of my time...

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 21:07

I've just had an altercation with a bully boy wanker in the street - zoomed into our street as my neighbour was reversing out of our drive into her path and so she hit him. I happened to witness it from my window and he was immediately telling her don't worry I won't go through the insurance just give us a hundred quid whilst she's standing having a panic attack with her baby in the back of the car.

Went out to see if she was ok and pointed out what I'd seen and got sworn and shouted at to get back in my fucking house you fucking busybody etc. I hate men sometimes - namalt - I know but a significant enough proportion of them. I pointed out that I'm not sure his employers would want to know he was swearing and shouting at a woman whilst in uniform and a works van. It's a family business so I don't give a shit etc all with a fag hanging out of his mouth.

Proper big man bully boy. They hate me because I'm not scared nor do I stoop to their level nor do I get back in my house or shut the fuck up when they tell me to.

Neighbour is moving back to Greece shortly anyway so I told her to ignore it. He didn't want to go through insurance for a reason presumably and a small business can write off that hundred quid better than they can a publicity about a big bully boy twat shouting and swearing at women in front of a baby.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 21:13

Luckily ds had his headphones on and didn't hear what was going on or that would have been an interesting dimension Grin Not sure how he would have handled a grown man shouting and swearing at me - could've been even more of a ridiculous scene. New code of conduct is all about not bringing the school into disrepute Grin Maybe that's how they'll get rid of me because I'm not one to stand back when a woman is being bullied by some monkey with opposable thumbs.

CarrieBlue · 13/07/2021 21:15

Don’t break up til a week on Friday here, should be in on the following Monday but twilight inset accounted for that. Not back til Sept 6th. Last summer we had a seven week summer holiday (what a waste!) but we’re still getting six this year.

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 21:21

Weel done@TheHoneyBadger!
So, did you get them to exchange insurance details then?

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 21:22

Is it awful that I increasingly think that a really significant proportion of men add absolutely fuck all to society? You can just picture a cowed wife in the background because he was so sure that this uppety bitch daring to disagree with him should fuck off back into her house like he told her to and the girl having a panic attack should just cough up £100 because the big man said so. He doesn't get that confidence and smug certainty from nowhere and people don't react that aggressively and threateningly to a woman disagreeing with them if they are used to that happening.

Can someone just assure me that sticking up for girls against bully boys does not make me some evil nosey harridan? I've had to do quite a lot of times in my life and always with similar aggressive and ridiculous results. They look at you like they want to batter you and even square up to you sometimes but they can't actually hit you because you're a woman, in public, with actual legal protections rather than in private in their own homes where they probably don't hesitate to use their fists.

DreamingofBrie · 13/07/2021 21:30

Of course it doesn't! I stood up to our builder once, because he was properly taking the mickey. I had a toddler on my hip and he properly squared up to me, I could see him puffing his chest out. My instinct was to step backwards as he was stepping forward but I held my nerve. Pisses me off.

You get that with the parents sometimes too. This year I've been having good, productive dialogue with mum, then dad comes muscling in, yelling about how awful I am, how I've destroyed their child's confidence, do I really think this is the best way to teach Hmm. Completely pointless. I did stand up to that dad, I don't think he expected it.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 21:33

Was their child a boy by any chance?

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/07/2021 21:40

honey that sounds like a scary experience for that poor woman. Well done for sticking up for her!! I agree that there are definitely a significant number of men who do just expect women to back down and do as they're told. It's a huge shock to them when a woman stands up to them, so well done you!!

echt · 13/07/2021 21:44

Thank you all, and while the end is some way off, I can tick off my last parents' evenings, etc.

One good thing is that the last three weeks of the fourth term are composed of two weeks of Term 1 2022, so I'll do covers, the very last week is admin with no students so I'll clear my desk.

Best of all is I take all my accumulated long service leave (not a lot in my case) starting after the summer holidays, for which I get paid, so I'm still on the payroll for another eight weeks. THEN I retire. Bloody marvellous. :o

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/07/2021 21:58

Good for you helping your neighbour @TheHoneyBadger Smile

6 days and counting here! Y10 are so tired now but Y9 seem to have enough energy for Y10 and all.the staff put together Confused

Still got a few things to do before I finish but I am getting through the job list steadily now Grin

Just need to get to the end!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/07/2021 22:05

We're not allowed in over the holidays, which is good, but also a bit stressful in terms of being classroom ready. I feel that I need to spend the rest of this week staying late to do things like clearing my book shelves, desk etc. Usually spend a day just doing those bits nice and leisurely. One inset on 1st, kids back on 2nd.

I can't just give my kids an activity to be getting on with, they kick off. Normally I'd be doing boards and things in lessons, but that won't happen this year.

Frlrlrubert · 13/07/2021 22:05

Well done @TheHoneyBadger

I can't stand billy big balls telling women what to do. This being tolerated in society is why I have year 9 lads squaring up to me in doorways 'as a joke'. They get short shrift as well. That particular lad is starting to realise speaking to me like I'm a lesser species not worth the detention (he only joined at the start of June).

eitak22 · 13/07/2021 22:10

Another one still in next week, break up Friday here! Still crawling towards the end, got a trip tomorrow and teachers have parents evenings this week so it's all go here.

Not liking the prospect of no masks etc come Monday and the advice to CEV people is horrendous.

DreamingofBrie · 13/07/2021 22:13

@TheHoneyBadger

Was their child a boy by any chance?
Yes, and he is delightful! Just didn't cope very well with lockdown. So whilst I have some dislike for dad, no problems at all with mum or child.
MsAwesomeDragon · 13/07/2021 22:19

We finish on Friday and it can't come soon enough. Half of each of my classes are isolating or "ill". None of the Bobs though, never any of the Bobs. I've still got loads of work to do, but honestly I just want to finish and I'll do some work in the holidays. I'll have to go in at least a few days to clear my cupboard and sort my display boards, etc as I don't have the time I normally would to do all of that stuff.

FlagsFiend · 13/07/2021 22:19

I found the scotland graph in this article interesting: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57824297

Started wondering what Scotland were doing that could make the graph go down, then remembered Scottish schools have an earlier summer holiday than south of the border...

DreamingofBrie · 13/07/2021 22:24

I've wandered onto the main boards recently. Anyone else get a sense of "mean girls in the playground"? One thread was speculating about whether we'd have another lockdown and the one about Prince William. Reported a couple of posts. Noble, seems you're not the only poster whose mental health people are concerned about Hmm.

HSHorror · 13/07/2021 22:39

Yes to the men. Ive sadly been thinking covid may even out the 50/50 male to female ratio in our favour again. Though unfortunately its probably not the right ones.
Imagining a world with fewer men about. Women could walk safely at night. Less child abuse. Really just some ruining it for all men and women. Eg those putting flares on their bums

WhenSheWasBad · 13/07/2021 22:41

Excellent work Honey most men are lovely. A few (actually more than a few) are total arseholes.

Unfortunately I can well believe you get year 9 boys squaring up to you frlfrl. If you look at some of the behaviour logs of some of the boys I teach. They only get detentions from female teachers, they respect the male teachers far more. And will actually behave for them.

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2021 22:42

Familiar posters with a limited playbook on the lockdown thread, Brie.

I had concerns about my mental health earlier so I ate a Twix. Feel better now. #selfcare

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 23:24

Opposite problem with ds - gets on better with female teachers and even if he doesn't like them doesn't find them too confrontational. He interprets male teachers being confrontational as being, 'in his face' and 'squaring up to him' and says he sometimes has to restrain himself from getting in their faces in response. Not sure if it's a single parent thing. What with us being to blame for everything Wink

Twix definitely = self care. I've just had a handful of cocktail sausages and mini savoury eggs for my mental health.

motherrunner · 14/07/2021 06:20

Didn’t get much sleep last night. Next door neighbour’s kids are “isolating”. What I mean is they’re stain at home so their holiday won’t be impacted. It was the girl’s birthday so parents hired a disco inflatable thing. The party finished at 8 but then all the pissed up adults stayed outside with music blaring til past midnight. My neighbours WFH. DD ended up having to sleep with DH and me as our room is in the opposite side of the house.

I have so little patience this week. I am verging between anger and crying. Wtf is wrong with me?

WhenSheWasBad · 14/07/2021 06:41

Oh poor you mother you sound utter overwhelmed and fed up. Do you finish Friday?
