You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

42,302 cases today. We’ve sent home another lot until after the holidays. It’s not fair how they’re allowing it to rip through schools.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/07/2021 17:30

Kid has it in my class, but allegedly wasn't symptomatic until Monday, so is 'clear' of closing the bubble. Considering dad caught it at the Italy Spain match, I'm not convinced. Anyway. Figure we've all had it or got it.

Will see how my LFT goes in a bit. I'd quite like to be off now, but not sure how I'd be able to provide any sort of learning. We're doing an art week (on curriculum, not random), then transition, PSHE and a film next week.

CallmeHendricks · 14/07/2021 17:30

Apparently, you can't get a PCR test anywhere in our County for love nor money.

CallmeHendricks · 14/07/2021 17:32

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot, I could have written your post - right down to the Italy/Spain match.

We had a lovely twitter response from Marcus Rashford today. My year 6 wrote him and the other two boys letters and we posted a few of them and tagged them before sending them snail version to the FA. He thanked us so kindly it was obvious he had actually read the letters and he said he'd pass the message on to the others, who were not on socialmedia right now. Some of the boys cried. His mum must be beyond proud of him- what a bloody lovely bloke. Gave me a real boost in this very slow and deathly week.

thecatfromjapan · 14/07/2021 18:04

That's just lovely, phlebas.

motherrunner · 14/07/2021 18:04

We’re having a whole school picnic on the field tomorrow. Hope I don’t have Covid as my end of year treat.

Oh that is lovely! And I’m a cynical old football-hater.
JanFebAnyMonth · 14/07/2021 18:11

I like (not) the way he assures his lovely readers that “you don’t have to agree with everything they say”, thus tacitly admitting that (at least) some of what they say might be a bit alarming and / or ridiculous.

Are posts on Conservative Home always so sycophantic, I wonder?

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2021 18:16

Interesting range of comments under the article.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/07/2021 18:43

Yes.

Just read about two local instances (one in the local paper under a “Wonderful Mums make sure their DDs don’t lose out” type headline, of parents organising prom replacement events for their daughters and friends because their schools had cancelled their proms due to infection risk. One has issued invitations to pupils of two neighbouring schools plus any other Y11s who have £20 to spare.

Let’s repeat that, they might understand this time:

Their schools had cancelled their proms due to infection risk........

ChloeDecker · 14/07/2021 18:55

It’s not fair how they’re allowing it to rip through schools.

It isn’t is it? It’s criminal what they are putting schools through.

And still thread after thread of office workers not wanting to return to the office…

LolaSmiles · 14/07/2021 19:09

Chloe
I'm starting to think that what some people mean by that is I want to keep working from home enough that I will complain if my manager/company wants us back in the office due to lost productivity because it suits me. I can ease off a bit, have some peace, and get on top of house jobs during the day. If schools aren't running at full capacity with no mitigation measures then that might ruin my peaceful day. If testing might mean my kids have to isolate then I'd rather we stopped testing so I can be at home in peace.

Obviously there will be people who are very productive from home, and who WFH whilst supporting schools having proper measures in place.

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2021 19:21

Schools are basically being told to tell kids not to test over the summer. So we are back to not testing the population : good way to bring numbers down...

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/07/2021 19:22

@CallmeHendricks when I was looking to book PCR for DS this morning there were none anywhere in the country, only home testing ones. When I looked last (10 days ago) there were loads and I got an appt in half an hour’s time…

CallmeHendricks · 14/07/2021 19:27

I despair. I quite simply despair. What the fuck are the government playing at?
ChloeDecker · 14/07/2021 19:28

Nail on the head there Lola nail on the head.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/07/2021 19:29

Yeah it's a bit of a mess really. AGAIN.

What can I do with my class for the last 3 days next week? Curriculum will be finished by Friday, they can't cope with anything that isn't timetabled to the nth degree.

CallmeHendricks · 14/07/2021 19:40

*@RuleWithAWoodenFoot, I'd get yourself over to Twinkl if I were you. Needs must...

LolaSmiles · 14/07/2021 19:56

One of my friends is a teacher and the only test she could get was a postal one. It's a mess.

piggy is right. If they reduce testing then the numbers go down, then Boris can play the hero and say he saved summer.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/07/2021 20:00

How are schools being told to tell pupils that piggy?

Deepti or Christina (can’t remember which!) have tweeted about the lack of tests, especially in London

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2021 20:13

Our students had a letter today. The school doesn't get given tests for pupils for the holidays.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/07/2021 20:20

Ah ok I was wondering about that. (?because they’re now stockpiling then in order to sell???)

PumpkinPie2016 · 14/07/2021 20:23

@phlebasconsidered that's lovely Smile I love Marcus Rashford (and I don't follow football!). He seems like a lovely, genuine young man and he has handled the last few days really well.

I am down to about half of my Y10s now Confused kids isolating left, right and centre, along with lots of staff. Cover is a total nightmare - the cover manager is pulling her hair out!

It's being allowed to rip through schools and then because we are being told to tell kids not to test over summer, that will reduce the number of cases Hmm
