You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

I've been dutifully remote teaching kids at home who log into teams at the same time as teaching the ones in class.

Barely any of them have been logging in.

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/07/2021 19:14

I'm sending work to whole classes if there are any in there who are isolating. So she might have struck lucky if that had been your system. But nobody is getting any live lessons at our place, regardless of the reasons they're off, they get a video and a worksheet, or even just a task with an explanation to keep them busy for an hour.

Parents definitely don't understand how long it takes to set meaningful work for absent children

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 19:16

@MrsHamlet

Callme - that is sick and wrong! When do you go back?
Inset on 1st Sept. Kids in 2nd.
Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 19:17

Another Thursday here. But I think we may be playing Last Man Standing.

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 19:17

"Parents definitely don't understand how long it takes to set meaningful work for absent children"

Especially in the last week of the year.

MrsHamlet · 13/07/2021 19:19

We all have to do 190 pupil days. How is this possible that you're still going next week?

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 19:20

We're teetering on a cliff edge at our place, infections-wise. Child in class's family all testing as have symptoms.... Waiting to hear.

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 19:22

@MrsHamlet, I suppose we must have had the odd extra day earlier in the year.
I wonder this every year, but it does work out the same, apart from those lucky buggers who can wangle a few Inset days as Twilights.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/07/2021 19:22

Lost a couple of kids mid morning when their (unrelated) parents called to say that they (the parent) had to go get a test. Will see if they return before the end of the week!

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2021 19:22

I'm in next week too Envy

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 19:23

But if we have to isolate, how the hell are we meant to send meaningful tasks home? Tidy your tray? Wash out the paint pots. Do this wordsearch. watch this video

only a bit

MrsHamlet · 13/07/2021 19:24

We had two INSETs this year and the rest as twilight. Same next year although I'm still fighting over the 189 days.

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/07/2021 19:24

We’re in next week too…. 😱😱😱 although attendance is falling as more and more get sent home…

MiniCheddarMuncher · 13/07/2021 19:28

Another one in next week - rudely until Friday!

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 19:42

Some people only had a 6 week term before Easter and some of us had 7 weeks as a I recall and some people are getting 2 weeks off in October.

It all evens out somehow.

No drinking in the week rule introduced before the end of term is just silly surely? I've even given up on my no beer because I'm trying to lose weight commitment in the last couple of weeks. All bets are off bar making it to the end of term without being sacked.

Frlrlrubert · 13/07/2021 19:51

I've set an 'isolation task' for all my classes that says 'we're done, all you're missing is fun practicals and any tests you haven't done, go outside and think about biology, go in the kitchen and think about chemistry, go in the bathroom and think about density and sinking and floating, revise if you've got any tests you still need to do'.

I'm leaving though and our SLT are crap so if they bring it up they'll get a few choice pointers by return email.

HarrietDVane · 13/07/2021 19:52

Bubbles are bursting left, right and centre at work - will there be anyone left by the time we eventually break up next week?! Sad

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 19:57

Nice to know this ex teacher and member of the Select Committee has such a positive view of teachers:

www.tes.com/news/out-touch-neu-leader-bats-away-call-resign

His rhetoric sounds familiar...

Saucery · 13/07/2021 20:00

Jan that’s rubbish. Hope they do well at it, with their admin experience Hmm

cantkeepawayforever · 13/07/2021 20:05

I am in next week ... for 2 days, if I don't catch Covid from DD in the meantime.

I'd quite like to say a proper goodbye to my class, but i doubt many will be in next week anyway.

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2021 20:08

He could just read the Daily Mail, piggy

Dunno why the TES would give him airtime. What a twat.

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 20:12

Yes, I did wonder why the TES was even reporting it.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/07/2021 20:39

I'm in next week until Wednesday.

Parents definitely don't understand how long it takes to set meaningful work for absent children

Almost impossible right now. I've got one child off all week, I went through his maths assessment and set him work on his gaps. Still took me an hour to sort out and it was easy. His mum was almost pathetically grateful to see me when I turned up at their house this morning. She was full PPEd up to open the door. Bless. Think she just wanted a chat.

I did a fuck up today. Had to phone 3 parents to explain. My opening line was "Hi, it's Mrs Rule. I'm sorry but I've made a mistake... " At the end, one of them said 'thank you for owning up, it's not an issue.. rare that anyone owns up to anything these days...'

So that was nice.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/07/2021 20:42

What was that particular MP doing during the pandemic?

Mine was actually working at a food delivery place, pretty much all week every week, doing shifts. I don't like him, the Tory twat but can't accuse him of not pulling his weight.

ChloeDecker · 13/07/2021 20:48

That MP is deluded if he thinks that teachers were the only ones criticising. Plenty of action brought about by Unison, Unite, RMT and BMA to name but a few. The gaslighting is strong with this one.
