You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Yep. The difference between that approach and the tone of the Yippee! All back to normal in Sept! tone of the recent school newsletters is marked.
Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 18:25

Just in the news that 1/4 of secondary pupils were off last Thursday.

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 18:30

600000 off for non covid reasons. School is so important eh? What will U4T say??

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2021 18:39

Just went an investigated, piggy because that sounded a lot. And it's more than 1/4 off.

"Pupil attendance in secondary schools adjusted for Y11-13 not expected to attend was 73.6% on 8 July. This is down from 76.9% on 1 July and 82.4% on 24 June."

Primary was 85.1%.

Covid absence in secondary was 13.5% and 9.8% in primary.

Why are loads of secondary kids absent for non-covid reasons?

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/07/2021 18:42

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-57820776

The article implies they’re off because of worried parents, MH issues including fear of failure, but mainly parents ensuring they don’t have to isolate and miss a booked holiday. Don’t know if any of those are true about substantial numbers of pupils though.

CBA, mainly, I suspect.

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/07/2021 18:43

It’ll be those “exam orphans” of whom Halfon spoke last week....

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 18:43

Day after the semi final?? Holidays? All the other terrible illnesses ?

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/07/2021 18:45

Powers that be don’t want my help with catch up ☹️.

I’ve put my application for the one extra day a week job and discovered that a few admin colleagues who want to maybe get rid of some aspect of their current full time posts are interested.

At least those who are interviewed might get early sight of the new pastoral head if she comes in to do that!

Good points piggy, however @mrshamlet probably wins with CBA
Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 18:48

Perhaps we should ask the MN massive where all their kids were last Thursday?

MrsHamlet · 13/07/2021 18:49

Well that sucks Jan :(

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2021 18:51

Your powers that be are idiots, Jan. Total idiots.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/07/2021 18:54

Sad Jan. they obviously don’t know a good thing when they see it.

Well, it's been a couple of days since Nob started a thread.
noblegiraffe · 13/07/2021 18:58

I started TWO yesterday!! I need a break.

MrsHamlet · 13/07/2021 19:00

A lot of them will be protecting their holidays by having this week off.
Boss got cross today with a parent complaining we'd set no work for her child. We don't routinely set work for absent kids anyway but when parent said they were taking the week off to protect their trip to centre parks, it did not go down well.

I don’t think parents realise how much time it takes to set extra work for a kid.
I was so impressed with my Year 8s today. ALL of them were in.

They do seem to think I can mark test papers almost instantly though.

MrsHamlet · 13/07/2021 19:06

I don't think they care, either!
Basically, they've pulled their child out of school a week abd a half early expecting live lessons to occupy them. We're not doing that, and she's "ill" (not covid) so we're not setting work... and now they've seen their arse.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 19:09

Oh it's my son and I who create inequality not a society that accepts men abandoning responsibility for children and paying a pittance towards their upkeep and the institution of work doing little to accommodate single working mum's except creating lots of underpaid (but lots of skills needed) 16hr a week contracts knowing they'll tap into the overqualified but hand tied population of single parents. Got it Hmm

Sun's shining here.

So glad we're nearly at the end. I've got 3 lessons and a free tomorrow - lessons mainly constituting of documentaries. Friday I have one lesson to teach then they're all in forms till they go home just after lunch.

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 19:09

My HT would take the same line, MrsH. We're just not in the mood for any shit at this stage of the game.

I started a "no alcohol during the week"pledge this week. Gone to shit already. Wine

CallmeHendricks · 13/07/2021 19:10

SO jealous of people who are breaking up on Friday. We have to limp on until next THURSDAY, ffs.

MrsHamlet · 13/07/2021 19:12

Callme - that is sick and wrong! When do you go back?
