You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Grade descriptor will be, “better than a 9”.

DreamingofBrie · 13/07/2021 08:38

Can we not just have a couple of years where they fuck off and leave us alone?!

My thoughts too!

motherrunner · 13/07/2021 08:41

@TheHoneyBadger

Grade descriptor will be, “better than a 9”.
So true!
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/07/2021 09:01

@DanglingMod

Well I spent from March to July and from September to April shut in one room at home to protect CEV dh. So I could go to work in the germ pit. And he, of course, went nowhere either. It was utterly miserable.
Exactly. Nobody seems to worry about the mental health implications of expecting the CEV and their families to go into a much harsher version of lockdown than anyone else has faced. All of a sudden the concerns about mental health will disappear as long as they are ok.

I’m not sure how I’m supposed to square avoid contact with unvaccinated people and indoors with we won’t be mandating masks on public transport it’s a personal choice while still going to work tbh. And I can’t see it working in schools either.

I don’t have a great deal of faith that stagecoach will be insisting, given they gave up on social distancing and restricting numbers on the 17th May.

In happier news, yesterday I resigned with the intention to retire at the end of the year (Australian academic years run January to December).

While it had been my intention this year, to actually do it felt such a relief.

Mistressiggi · 13/07/2021 10:02

Oh wow, congratulations!

DreamingofBrie · 13/07/2021 12:17

Congratulations echt, glad you felt so much better when you'd resigned!

We've lost quite a lot of our senior team this year. A bit worried what September will be like (from a behaviour perspective).

Staffholidayclubrep · 13/07/2021 12:42

@echt - congratulations! You can soon start ticking off last parents evening etc.

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 13:49

The take a knee thread is bonkers. Bonkers. These threads certainly bring people out from the woodwork. think I have found the Meghan haters... and it's like Dominic Raab and Pritti Patel have cloned themselves!
We are just having case after case after case now; lots of them are linked to an original positive case, and also a party which the infected girl's sister seems to have gone to...as you do.

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 13:50

In case any of you didn't know it, single parent families (by which the poster meant black ones, I assume) are the root of inequality in society. One for honey there... Angry Shock

motherrunner · 13/07/2021 13:58

@echt - congrats!!!!!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/07/2021 14:01

Congrats echt.

MrsHamlet · 13/07/2021 15:39

Woohooo @echt - that's exciting!

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/07/2021 15:46

Congrats @echt

Saucery · 13/07/2021 16:17

Wow echt bet that feels good!

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/07/2021 16:29

Congratulations echt. I hope the rest of the year is as stress free as possible and you get to retirement in one piece.

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 16:38

Congrats echt. Discussed retirement with a colleague today. Felt old.

motherrunner · 13/07/2021 16:45

More kids sent home. Luckily DS’ test came back negative. Roll on Friday. I am seriously considering keeping my kids home next week - they break up Weds - as I don’t want to miss our holiday.

Saucery · 13/07/2021 17:05

If I had school aged dc I would keep them off this week (obviously not expecting any work sent home for them!).
We’ve had children on unauthorised holidays abroad when they are supposed to be isolating, parents, sending in dc while waiting for results of their own PCR tests, dc taken to major sporting events while isolating….. I am all out of patience and understanding for the selfish, entitled wankers doing this. I can understand parents who don’t get paid being reluctant to follow the rules on testing, but all the others? Fuck off. Dangerous, uncaring arrogance.

Saucery · 13/07/2021 17:08

I was also called unsociable for not piling round to someone’s house on the last day for a drunken party. They did it last year, too, when it was actually illegal. How I held my tongue is a bloody miracle Angry
Don’t fancy a call from T&T on my first day of the holidays, thank you.

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/07/2021 17:16

Yeah me and honey are among those wkd single parents Hmm.....

We’ve got quite a lot of cases (over every year group that’s in), I think one year group at least must be heading for closure or I certainly hope so. The pattern definitely seems different to the autumn though, more and more cases daily.

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/07/2021 17:23

Wow saucery I'm amazed you held your tongue there. All our cleaners did something similar at Christmas. They couldn't book a restaurant because there were more than 6 of them, so they went to Sandra's house instead, all 20 of them having a "Christmas do" in a small terraced house. 10 of them had covid during the Christmas holidays, and 2 of the husbands ended up in hospital (recovered now, but not up to full fitness again). It's just so irresponsible!!!

borntobequiet · 13/07/2021 17:31

I’m a wkd single parent too. My son worked with somebody who said to him “I can’t believe you’re from a single parent family”. He told me that if I hadn’t brought him up properly he’d have said something really nasty to her.
@echt well done. I’m battling mild boredom at present but have got something relatively stress free sorted for September, very part time, and a couple of tutees over the summer. It’s so nice being able to make the most of my gym membership at a time of day when I actually enjoy it, and to have started swimming again. I did retire via a less stressful environment than secondary (for the last 7 years - it was only meant to be 5!) so it made it easier for me.

Saucery · 13/07/2021 17:34

I only have to keep my gob shut for 2 more days, MsA. Should be doable Grin. It was just the last straw today, with the majority of parents just doing their best to keep their dc in for the last week and a proper send off. The fact my dog’s daycare place has better Covid security than a school rankled, too. They are keeping mitigations in place until we’ll into Autumn - obviously don’t trust the govt approach much and who can blame them. Wonder if they need any extra staff?

Saucery · 13/07/2021 17:36

well into Autumn, autocorrect, you can fuck off too.
