You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Hope he’s ok, motherrunner. We have children flaking out left, right and centre. Be a miracle if a couple of classes make it to Friday without isolation. Feel really sad about that. I know it’s pathetic but I hoped we could see them all off on the last day of term, given how bloody brilliant and yes, resilient, over the last year.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 12/07/2021 18:23

I've asked to go part time. 0.8. Not possible until xmas, but thats ok.

Kids annoying. 2 isolating and asking for work. WTF? We're doing a fun art and music week. Can't do any of it at home.

motherrunner · 12/07/2021 18:26

We have so many classes out at mo. Some won’t be back now as their isolation ends next week.

DS will be fine (cross fingers!). DH came home Friday sniffling so he went for a PCR Sat and it came back negative yesterday. Non Covid times school would’ve just let him stay and tell me at the end of the day he was tired and hot.

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/07/2021 18:45

A couple of mentions in the Briefing today about school holidays being an advantage in terms of infection rates - like it’s something they’ve been saying all along Hmm

However, as a Parents United bod pointed out, all the Catch zip summer school (plus normal summer childcare) rather go against that idea!

Apparently Javid, in his statement today, basically told the vulnerable to not go indoors all summer and avoid anyone unvaccinated.

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/07/2021 18:46

Sorry, all the Catch up summer schools (etc) rather ruin that idea!

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 18:49

Vulnerable meant to avoid their own children then?

Cantaloupeisland · 12/07/2021 18:54

Shocker of a day today. Attendance so low not even including the ones isolating. About four times as many off 'sick' as on an average day, some parents were at least honest and said their kids were knackered after football (this is secondary mind!)

noblegiraffe · 12/07/2021 19:51

I started a thread about the exam consultation earlier www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4294791-Y10-and-12-parents-Exams-2022-covid-adjustments-consultation

The maths 'adjustment' is obviously shit. I'm wondering if they should add a grade 6 to foundation...

noblegiraffe · 12/07/2021 19:52

Vulnerable parents were always told to avoid their own children. I remember being horrified when it was posted about on MN.

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 20:03

That was CEV parents, though, and now we are supposed to be licking each otherlearning to live with Covid.

The Dutch PM has apologised...

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 20:06

Obviously meant to be a strikethrough above but hey, meh.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/07/2021 20:23
Didn’t we use to discuss prevalence in terms of cases per 100,000? Is it just me thinking the switch to per million is deliberate obfuscation?
noblegiraffe · 12/07/2021 20:32

Bloody hell this England team are good at taking the government to task.

Good for him. They seem like a great group of young men and role models for young people.

It has opened up some good conversations with the kids too.

eitak22 · 12/07/2021 20:44

Found out my class and got the one I didn't want due to behaviour issues (my current class has a lot but I know the strategies to handle them). Feeling grumpy but probably just tired and picking up the stress from teaching staff.

Any primary staff doing in person patents evening?

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 20:46

Tyrone is a highly educated, articulate young man. He knows how to express himself.

CallmeHendricks · 12/07/2021 20:53

"Any primary staff doing in person patents evening?"

We did Open Evenings last week, one bubble at a time. No 1:1 appointments though, just an opportunity to see their work and have a generalised chat in passing.

noblegiraffe · 12/07/2021 20:56

Rashford ran rings around them on social media too.

I really liked Southgate’s essay about patriotism.

Footballers. Not a group I’m used to feeling inspired by.

Beachhuts90 · 12/07/2021 20:57

Good for him. They seem like a great group of young men and role models for young people.

I agree so much. They are fantastic. I wanted them to win because they are great, not because I care about football. And we are lucky to have public figures who do things like use their fame to campaign for fsm etc...it's not like the government will and someone has to.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 12/07/2021 21:16

I loved talking to my class about the football team today. I am not remotely interested in football, but can get behind their opinions quite happily.

My child will be in 3 different bubbles over the summer holidays, not including us going on holiday with another family, or our extended family.

cantkeepawayforever · 12/07/2021 21:17

Right. PCR tests finally back. DD indeed positive, I mercifully tested negative so have no impact on school.

So I have a very odd week where someone else has to execute my enormous to do list, while I am puppet master....

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/07/2021 21:18

Southgate seems a very good guy and he’s leading them.

To change subject to tonight’s briefing and iSAGE’s questioning how the CMO and CSO can stand there and support/ spout such questionable evidence, I’m wondering if there’s any hope of Whitty and or Vallance resigning. That would be powerful.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/07/2021 21:18

I am so proud of these young men. They're articulate, motivated and in most cases doing so much off the pitch too. Real role models for the next generation too. A far cry from footballers a generation ago.

Good on Tyrone. Call it out.

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/07/2021 21:19

Hope you’re all OK cant.

DreamingofBrie · 12/07/2021 21:19

Cant Flowers. Hope your dd recovers soon.
