You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

3/4 of two year groups out now…. Every time I went past another group of contacts were being sent home 😱😱😱

CallmeHendricks · 12/07/2021 15:45

If we break up next Thursday and I'm goi g away on the Sunday, what is they last day I can cope with getting sent home to isolate?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/07/2021 15:51

Taking an entire primary class on a trip involving an hr long public bus ride is an interesting move given the current levels of Covid around here.

Not sure who’s going to infect who.

That is definitely an interesting choice to make. Who came up with that bright idea?

We're at about 50% attendance due to covid, isolation, end of termitis and football.

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 16:06

I am really not sure what PHE will do with us now. A school near me has closed down for 3 days to do its mobile testing (PCR) which has really annoyed me as we stayed open.

We now have another outbreak : definitely linked cases as there are friendship groups, a form class and siblings involved, including test results from students isolating from a case last week.. . over to you, PHE!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/07/2021 16:27

No idea MrsH. I got to the bus stop and found 30 kids (yr 6 by the looks of it) in hi vis jackets + staff there.

I did think surely they aren’t catching the bus, but they were. Obviously cos kids don’t catch it and they won’t be secondary for a few weeks there’s no need for masks either.

Needless to say I sat on the deck they weren’t on. Who knows what would have happened if it had been a single decker that had turned up. Which it does more than half the time these days. I’m guessing the teachers wouldn’t have just waited for the next one because presumably they need the kids back by a reasonable time. I can’t see how they’ve thought this through at all really.

Saucery · 12/07/2021 16:42

How on earth did the bus company allow that? And the Risk Assessment get passed? Queuing at a bus stop on the offchance there is room for your whole class would make it on to one of our’s, even pre-Covid!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/07/2021 16:51

It was fairly common round here before Covid. Schools and nurseries do it a lot. I’m guessing they didn’t ask the bus company.

It’s the first time I’ve raised an eyebrow at it since the time a teacher started the headcount as the bus pulled away rather than counting the kids off the bus.

[quote Piggywaspushed]Seen this, secondary peeps?

Yes. The science one doesn't seem to help really at all. Unless they remove the practical questions.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/07/2021 17:29

I could wear 🎇🔥

Still got half of yr8 and 9 out. Various bus related SI stragglers too.

Never mind the kids, I've got endoftermitis!!!

RigaBalsam · 12/07/2021 17:36

I have actually read it properly now. So we will get content lists? If that's correct that would be amazing.

Hercisback · 12/07/2021 17:37

I saw the consultation. Seems OK for maths, they couldn't do much else. Will be arguing for formula sheet for stats.

The geo/history stuff seems complex but I imagine it makes sense if you teach it.

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 17:44

The content lists may not be as helpful as they sound. I expect for my subject they'll just rattle off what we already knew.

FlagsFiend · 12/07/2021 17:50

@Saucery

Our (primary) pupils were little darlings this morning. Still full of beans from last night and happy but regretful. There was a discussion about “the cheating Italians!” but one stepped in and said we shouldn’t call them cheats because it wasn’t a nice thing to say. If only some of the adult fans could be like that Grin
My students were tired which made them quieter and more compliant than normal. Several of my y10s way of expressing disappointment was to say they would never eat pizza again...
MrsHamlet · 12/07/2021 17:55

Ours were all very muted today. Except the ones not in because "ill"

TheHoneyBadger · 12/07/2021 17:55

I've been awol. Hit a wall this weekend and decided to do nothing other than read and sleep pretty much.

One and a bit days to go for me. Wednesday and a bit of Friday. Nearly there.

I would love to do rollercoasters and the like but ds hates anything like that. He once cried on the dodgems.

Staffholidayclubrep · 12/07/2021 18:04

Yep the content list will just be the specification for us!

MrsHamlet · 12/07/2021 18:06

My last lesson is tomorrow. I'm so done with this now, and September looks shit!

Saucery · 12/07/2021 18:13

Grin Can’t see them sticking to that one for long.

motherrunner · 12/07/2021 18:13

Manic day. Had a call at lunch requesting I pick up DS (& DD) as he was lethargic and had a temp. Took him for a test this afternoon. He’s inset the weather but fine. DD in a foul mood because she’s had to miss footie training and be off school. I’m CBA and wishing Friday to be here now.

motherrunner · 12/07/2021 18:13

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 18:19

It's linked above from BBC and Guardian too but it does seem quite buried news.
