You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

I was shouting at the radio and nearly ran over a student in the car park (only half joking Grin)

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 01/07/2021 23:05

On my drive between the gym and school this morning, I did a run through of what I'd say to Johnson if I ever saw him in public. Quite loudly. I was practising it so that I don't swear.

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2021 23:11

I don't know how you put up with all of the personal comments

Dunno, it genuinely doesn't bother me. I find it funny when they really try to make an effort.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/07/2021 23:17

After the honour of 'dangerous high priestess of misinformation' I'd imagine anything else just looks ridiculous.

If only they knew they could just shorten your username to nob

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2021 23:23

I screenshotted that one, Rafa Grin

The high priestess one, not the nob one. Never forgiving MrsHP.

Am proud of you rule!

You're made of sterner stuff than me, noble!

Been daft enough to look at the end of term teacher gift threads and the people sticking their oar in to say why would they get the teacher a gift, teacher has been so shit, being paid to do a job etc. And the thread where the teacher is saying 5 children got sick within an hour. People are just being completely personal and unpleasant on that one - the usual comments about being glad that poster isn't their child's teacher, must be making it up etc. Ugh.

One of my Bobs was overheard saying I was a shit teacher anyway - I'd thwarted their "revision" gaming session by standing behind them for the whole session so that I could see their screens. It bothered me for an unnecessary amount of time!

JanFebAnyMonth · 01/07/2021 23:45

Am still recovering from danglingnob this morning.

Mind you, it’s several years since I’ve seen a naked male body, and at least it reminded me of the advantages of that! Grin

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2021 23:51

Probably helps, Brie, that I have zero regard for their opinion and despite them trying to make it personal, they clearly don't know anything about me.

People being nasty about teachers in general is depressing though.

Kids calling you a shit teacher is horrible. Teaching needs a concrete overcoat.

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2021 23:58

Oh no, Jan, DanglingNob was meant for late night reading, not over your breakfast cereal! Sorry! Grin

DreamingofBrie · 02/07/2021 00:04

I think it took about 4-5 years before I could confidently say back "I know it's not my teaching" when people were looking for an excuse for poor results. The imposter syndrome is usually lurking close by though has been for at least 30 years now...

We're remote teaching one year group at the moment. I'm trying to figure out whether the pirate game would work.

DreamingofBrie · 02/07/2021 00:07

Am still recovering from danglingnob this morning.

Littlest ds had his puberty talk today. Lots of penis talk. He said they couldn't stop giggling Grin.

noblegiraffe · 02/07/2021 00:10

I remember the first time I found some graffiti calling me a bitch, in my NQT year. I brought it up in the staffroom and immediately got a cheer with the experienced teachers saying 'well done, you've made it, you're a proper teacher now!'. I think that definitely helped!

I make a point of talking about things kids say to me or parents complain about around the NQTs so that they know it happens to us all and not to be sensitive about it thinking it's personal.

I can't picture the pirate game working without the kids being able to see each other and the reactions to being killed.

motherrunner · 02/07/2021 06:22

Congratulations Name - celebration time!

And what is this talk of 6 terms? Noble, so you live in a parallel universe??

I started teaching at 21. That means by retirement age I would have been teaching 46 years - longer than how old I am now 😳

eitak22 · 02/07/2021 06:57

The mean comments are why I don't venture out of the staff room and the crochet thread I'm on. It's not worth it!

Piggywaspushed · 02/07/2021 07:00

There is a particular vendetta against the 5 kids sick poster. Even spills on to data thread these days.

DanglingMod · 02/07/2021 07:05

I'm still a bit upset about not being believed that I knew three people 50 and under in ITU at the same time in January (and knew OF three more). Probably because I dared to mention that they were all either HCPs or school staff. Proper pile on. And I've seen people bring it up again "remember that poster who lied and reckoned she knew 6 teachers in ITU?" (They changed it, obviously). My GP friend is still very ill, thank you very much.

Sad. Sorry to hear that, DanglingMod.

I think we had around 2% of our staff with covid, a few of them unwell for a long time. Thankfully all recovered as far as I know.

If I see it come up in Active, I might report the whole thread. The openly mocking tone is about as much not in the spirit as I've ever seen on MN.

Problem is that is the same posters that are getting away with this all the time.

That’s interesting. I still really struggle with the fact that most of our school mitigations are based around tests that even the scientist trialing them (let alone most other countries!) says are shit.

I really despair with some posters. There are some people out there who seem to not want any children in this country being offered the vaccination because it puts pressure on them (who don’t want it) and they don’t like feeling like that! I don’t really care if it makes them feel a bit bad?!

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/07/2021 09:22

You know you love me really Mystic Nob 🤣

HSHorror · 02/07/2021 10:03

Also why according to another thread are uni students and some hcp using saliva tests and noone else. Despite the fact it's horrible for kids.

Mistressiggi · 02/07/2021 10:25

Congratulations to our newest fully fledged member of the staffroom SmileWine
My dreams last night included one with me teaching a class and two students being clearly ill - one feeling sick and the other coughing everywhere. Bearing in mind I have been on holiday for a week now, surely I can stop having school/Covid dreams!!
