You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

I must admit we don’t have 6 terms in my schook or at least, don’t refer to them as 6 terms, so it’s a little hard for this old ginmer to adapt Grin

CarrieBlue · 01/07/2021 21:55

😂

JanFebAnyMonth · 01/07/2021 21:56

It’s like British people talking about units of measurement, IME, most of us are capable of using both naming systems concurrently and rather illogically!

Rosegoldfan · 01/07/2021 21:58

We have 3 terms don't we and halfway through we get a week off which is half term? I am confused. Doesn't take much though to be fair.

ChloeDecker · 01/07/2021 21:59

Oh and as a new union rep, in my recent training, I was told NQTs will soon be called Early Career Teachers and it will last for 2 years and not 1.

Rosegoldfan · 01/07/2021 22:00

What does annoy me when people call the Easter holidays half term. Blush

MrsHamlet · 01/07/2021 22:01

Were you also told, Chloe, that no one has a bloody clue how the ECF training is going to work...
it's a nightmare

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 01/07/2021 22:01

We have three terms with a term break.

And TD Days.

ChloeDecker · 01/07/2021 22:01

Yes, I was! Same old same old GrinHmm
MrsHamlet · 01/07/2021 22:03

I'm so angry about it. The woman who is supposed to tell me how to induct my ECTs has no idea and I've since found out has never been involved in it before 🤦🏼‍♀️

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 01/07/2021 22:04

ECT stuff has arrived in my pigeon hole. I have ignored it because we don't have any NQTs.

Hercisback · 01/07/2021 22:06

ECF seems like the biggest rush job ever and that is saying something for the DfE. No one in our place seems to really know how it all works. Just "they need mentoring for 2 years" we'll tell you more in Sept.

MrsHamlet · 01/07/2021 22:06

I have two and a bit. They start on Monday

eitak22 · 01/07/2021 22:10

Congratulations Name!

I'm waiting to see how ECT looks before taking that step and also getting more experience under my belt.

AttaGirrrrl · 01/07/2021 22:13

Congratulations @namechangedyetagain!!!

I’ve always known it as three terms, each with a ‘half term’ break in them. I have just about stopped calling INSETs ‘Baker Days’ though Grin

GuyFawkesDay · 01/07/2021 22:16

Congratulations @namechangedyetagain!!

Marked some mocks. Did the SI work. Had field trips this week too. Am so tired!!

CarrieBlue · 01/07/2021 22:27

@AttaGirrrrl - there’ll always be Baker days to me 😡 (and I was at primary school then 😂)

CarrieBlue · 01/07/2021 22:28

*they’ll

namechangedyetagain · 01/07/2021 22:33

I'm trying very hard not to think of the horrors that may await next year as part of the ECF (and the year after).

DanglingMod · 01/07/2021 22:46

Forgot to ask if anyone else got the rage at Thought For The Day today? Missed who the speaker was but, oh, such bias.

Said "isolations of children last week were the highest since the pandemic began" (cf Nob's latest thread, and no they're not... not by some order of magnitude...) and other such bs stats.

I thought TFTD was supposed to be vaguely assembly style moralising not govt propaganda.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/07/2021 22:50

Congratulations name.

AttaGirrrrl · 01/07/2021 22:50

Hopefully no horrors. Mentors tend to be supportive and if anything it just protects you for a while.

DreamingofBrie · 01/07/2021 22:51

I've been looking at the main boards and depressed to see the knives coming out for teachers again. Noble, there are some truly unpleasant posters on the thread you've started, I don't know how you put up with all of the personal comments. It makes me think of the early days of lockdown 1, where the hostility towards teachers on the main boards made me feel even more anxious than I already was.

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2021 22:52

AngryAngryAngry wtf I am so annoyed. Glad I didn't hear that on the way to school.

Btw, I am changing my name to Mystic Nob if you saw the post I copied onto the other thread that I made in November
