You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Thanks @RuleWithAWoodenFoot and @JanFebAnyMonth. Here’s hoping a quick negative and can all go to school/work/the House of Fun (aka grandparents) as normal.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/06/2021 17:06

We had our results in 22 hours from the test yesterday. I was a bit miffed it took that long, because other people had told me it took their results less than 12 hours.

Fingers crossed you get a quick negative result so you can all go about your normal lives. 🤞

Seen this noble, honey, and anyone else who’s interested in far right / anti vaxxer/ anti lockdown links? The Great Reopening people came up in those Byline articles I think. Some crossover with U4T iirc.

This is part of the theory as to why we shouldn't scoff at Cummings when he said he was scared and had received threats.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/06/2021 20:36

Just seen this on the “DfE tells schools to prepare for the worst” thread (posted by Regulus)

...just want you to know that testing in schools instead of isolation Is Not Working. The pupils are meant to only go to school, but they also go to the shop on the way, go on the bus, go to extra curricular (well they are in school anyway) and funnily enough rates near me are sky rocketing

(Quelle surprise!)

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/06/2021 20:36

Oh yeah piggy

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 20/06/2021 20:40

Test results took 15hrs for me on Thurs. Hope you get yours in time to sort tomorrow.

Spent the weekend camping. Actually slept better than I have in weeks (7 hours unbroken with only one nightmare last night, and 6hrs the night before). I realise that I have been verging on properly unwell (was once before so know the signs). A complete break away has helped a bit. Lovely to see ds having such a great time. Now just got to hang on for the last few weeks. A fellow camper in the group was a secondary teacher. Haven't seen her since before covid. She has aged.

Jan, I've got a sneaky feeling that the people sending death threats and sharing addresses are not the ladies at Us4Them.

Their style is more accusing people of child abuse and reporting them to their employer.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/06/2021 21:14

Still no sign of a result here. I doubt OH are working at this time on a Sunday night, so hopefully they’ll phone early enough tomorrow that I can go to work.

Mistressiggi · 20/06/2021 21:16

I've received results at 11pm before now

StaffRepFeistyClub · 20/06/2021 21:22

@TheHoneyBadger

I don't understand why everyone is so shocked that we've sent year 11 home. They would always be finished with teaching by this point and they don't have exams. What did they expect us to do with them? Also this obsession with what time schools finish when they're all teaching the same amount of lessons but some are having shorter and less breaks.

We close early because we have a 40min lunch and no other break now.

What really killed our afternoon break was that different zones for breaks and staggered times meant that the number of duties required to supervise was higher than the number of staff available to do them. No one is profiting from us finishing early - certainly not teachers who are having manically packed days and most of us would far rather have decent breaks than finish 20 minutes earlier.

I don't know.

I am pleased Year 11 have now officially gone. Bob, has hardly been in, rocking up for the occasional games afternoon and the end of year trip.

They didn't want to work just wanted to watch the Euros on big screens. It has been pointless having them since half term.

In more cheerful news, it's the shortest day of year on Monday here in Australia. Nights will be drawing out.😎

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/06/2021 21:28

It’s slightly complicated by the fact that I don’t get my results, mistress. The hospital lab e-mails them to occupational health, who then call me and tell me what the result is.

I’ve got a sneaky feeling that the result is back, it’s just sitting in their inbox. Next time I think I might just ignore the millions of e%mails about not using the national testing service if you have symptoms.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/06/2021 21:43

Oh no I wasn’t imagining that they were one and the same noble.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/06/2021 21:45

Frustrating Rafa. Surely anyone who’s potentially testing positive should receive their results ASAP?

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/06/2021 21:46

(Not meaning that you’re any more likely to be positive than anyone else of course

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/06/2021 21:56

I think they deal with the positive ones first. It should be uploaded to my patient record, but it turns out you need an access code to register and that takes 5 working days. I have applied for one for next time though.
MrsHamlet · 20/06/2021 21:58

My dad will ring me tomorrow to wish me happy birthday. And then he'll sigh and say "nights are drawing in then"

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/06/2021 22:15

Will you Grin MrsH??

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/06/2021 22:25

Super weekend of brilliant sunshine and sunburn for me. Got home really quickly, no traffic... opened work email to send test result and had to go careful not to open anything in my inbox.

Partner now watching 'Together' really loudly and crying. Wtf.. take me back to the beach....

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/06/2021 22:42

Happy birthday for tomorrow MrsH. 🎂It's my mum's birthday tomorrow too, and her dad always said the same as your dad. It must be a dad thing.

CallmeHendricks · 20/06/2021 22:54

Ooh, is it your birthday tomorrow, @MrsHamlet?
It's mine too!
Happy birthday to us!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/06/2021 22:57

Do you do midsummer parties? It's a cool birthday date.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/06/2021 23:04

Oo tomorrow after school we should gather in the Staff Room for a glass of fizz to celebrate the two birthdays (and dad jokes!)

And is it only about 10 days later that we’re celebrating When’s course end?

“Together” was good....

CallmeHendricks · 20/06/2021 23:11

"It's a cool birthday date."

It is, yes. It's a lovely time of year and you can spread out your wish list for gifts between birthday and Christmas.
We're currently having a nice luxury weekend away - back home tomorrow in time for school on Tuesday.
