You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

First? Lucky. We've got chairs falling apart left right and centre here. Particularly Y9. I've pointed out they're in zones so they're effectively shitting in their own bed. If the desks are held together with chewing gum then there's no way we can afford to replace a crap chair so what exactly do they think they're achieving?

ChloeDecker · 24/06/2021 06:10

Oh and they frequently have husbands who are hospital consultants it seems.

A lot of current and recent Mumsnet threads have been about consultants still refusing to see patients/referrals face to face. Funny that!

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2021 06:50

Woken up full of rage still. Need to go into work despite being day off - hopefully won’t see anyone to rage at. We’ve also had a load of chairs sawn it suddenly transpires. We know the year groups and classroom and we know the rooms so we therefore know which students sit on or around those chairs…. They’re expensive chairs too and we don’t have any money to replace - nearly two classrooms worth apparently…

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot yes!!! It's that low level stuff that I've found really draining these last few weeks. I've tried waiting (a long time), tally to lose minutes, nothing seems to be getting through.

Anyway, I'm now out of school and zooming for a week so a nice lie in for me today!

I feel odd. Not relieved as such but a bit...lost somehow?

13luckyblackcats · 24/06/2021 07:54

I have enrichment by Zoom this week @namechangedyetagain and I am weirdly exhausted by it! Not had my final review yet so still on edge.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 24/06/2021 09:31

Ah the joy of remote teaching! 'is anybody there?' 'you are still brushing your teeth?' 'just woken up' 'my wifi isn't working' 'all my books are at school' 'i have to walk the dog'

jeez - it isn't even Period 2 yet - roll on Monday

Have you had "can everyone hear me?" , "you should be able to see the board/PowerPoint", "sorry everyone Teams has frozen. I'll sign back in" yet staff?

Enrichment by zoom? How does that work 13luckyblackcats?

Flowers and Brew for you, MrsHP and Staff. Hope your days are better today.

I have 5 lessons tomorrow so stayed up late finishing my reports last night, which are short, factual and to the point this year. No energy for much else.

We are getting lots of communication from the local council about all of the extra measures we need to be taking - we don't have the staff to manage the extent they are asking for.

Praying we can make it to the end of term without having to go remote again.

JanFebAnyMonth · 24/06/2021 10:42

Oh poor you Staff. I can’t help but think that your (as always) well chosen subtitle for this thread was rather prescient! Flowers

motherrunner · 24/06/2021 12:46

Bonus free! My Yr 9 class sent home P2 (confirmed case) but as I have them P3 I couldn’t teach them as they would still be in transit.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/06/2021 13:29

Wrote a powerpoint for a lesson for which none of the stuff on the system made sense last night and this morning I've ended up planning a lesson too for same reason.

I don't think I'm in the most organised department and it's beginning to make sense why there are so many folders and multiple powerpoints and sheets etc that don't fit together. Presumably a few years of people getting to the unit/lesson and going oh we've been told this is what we're doing but the planning doesn't exist or doesn't make any sense and I can't get answers to my email so shit I better knock something together even though I don't know what the LO is let alone if there are any resources.

My last HOD was a real pita in terms of people skills but she was organised and didn't 'bluff' her way through.

I have a set of mocks to mark and create swans for. Don't mind marking them but the fucking swans system is long and laborious and again there's nothing in place to streamline it. Moan moan.

Only three weeks and a day to go but it's crazy how much I'm supposed to be cramming in. I've got 3 sets of year 8 assessments to mark but I'm meant to wedge in another assessment for all of year 8 classes next week and same for year 7s plus I've got to create an end of year 7 quiz of the whole years curriculum for the department to use. No idea why we're piling on crazy marking loads for ks3 to the point of cramming in assessments that they haven't even got time to do the content for so it's all meaningless.

I thought I was finished moaning but I guess not. I could quite fancy a week of remote now as a viable reason for dropping some of the crazy workload for no real purpose tasks.

Our school has run out of masks now...

TheHoneyBadger · 24/06/2021 14:59

Our school is looking to give some away to a charity or some such (nhs can't take them) Hmm They seem to genuinely think it's all over.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/06/2021 15:00

The Hmm was at the school giving them away and thinking it's all over. Not at the nhs who understandably will have safety protocols.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 24/06/2021 15:06

So they think come September we will be happily skipping around the corridors? I think we will still be doing hand gel and one way systems. Maybe using masks occasionally

Ds has to have an hour and 40 minute detention because he and some other boys were seen on cctv making water bombs at lunchtime.

I'm really two headed about this. I sort of feel like we come down on kids like a ton of bricks for doing normal kid stuff but kids can tell you to fuck off in class or disrupt whole lessons impacting on actual education with pretty much impunity.

An hour and 40 minutes is very long. I'm being unreasonable no doubt but I'm beginning to be as annoyed by the school as I am with ds for getting in trouble.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 24/06/2021 15:38

Pop da pop pop, don't you dare stop
Come alive y'all, gimme whatcha got
I guess by now you can take a hunch
And find that I am the maker of the lunch
But that's okay, I still keep in stride,
'Cos all I'm here to do is just jiggle your mind
Singin' on'n'n'on'n'on on'n'on,
The teach don't stop until the break of term.
