You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

I see they’ve wheeled out Carl ‘we’ve reached herd immunity, there’ll be no second wave’ Heneghan as an expert. Grin

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 11:29

Yup

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 11:51

Ah, it’s me still not understanding false positivity rates at low prevalence levels (despite the best efforts of noble and others!). The 60% was a result of the low prevalence rates in March and the large numbers of students tested.

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2021 14:03

We might as well just have dropped a covid bomb in the school today. It's pissing it down; the kids are all inside , shouting , screaming, pretending they don't need masks 'because eating', all inside a cramped space with windows closed.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Semple and co.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/06/2021 16:41

Just a thought but anxious parents who don't want kids in school but are afraid of fines could have just said their children tested positive which would also partly explain why they didn't bother to follow up with pcr. Not saying huge numbers but home testing gave the perfect answer to those with vulnerable household members or those who didn't feel school was safe but didn't want to be fined.

So nice to get home today. Constant rain and soaked kids and general air of madness at school today. So glad it's the weekend.

Primary colleagues.... does anyone have these books? I'm trying to put together a scheme of work for literacy intervention for ks3 and wondered if these were any good. They're blooming expensive!

Iamnotthe1 · 18/06/2021 16:59

No, sorry MrsH never heard of them. I can't find any reviews online but have noticed that they were published before the new curriculum. They could still be relevant though.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 17:05

Yes honey but it only works for two weeks?

LolaSmiles · 18/06/2021 17:18

I've never hear of them MrsH. Lexis Power Up has some go resources for literacy intervention though, and I found The Writing Revolution quite useful for different ways to do the same things.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 18/06/2021 17:23

Dds y11 induction day cancelled for the large 6th form college.
Not entirely surprised.

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2021 17:26

Oh how I wish ours would be cancelled. For entirely selfish reasons. I have to teach 9 extra lessons!

MrsHamlet · 18/06/2021 17:43

I like the writing revolution but I've not heard of lexis power up... I'll check it out.
Whatever I write as a scheme of work has I'd be deliverable by whichever poor sod gets lumbered with teaching out of subject. The pe teacher doing maths intervention is not a happy chappy!

DanglingMod · 18/06/2021 17:58

I don't think anywhere else is doing transition days...totally against the guidance!

StationView · 18/06/2021 18:18

I asked to see the risk assessment for ours three days ago & the head hasn't even replied. It's meant to be going ahead next week Shock

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 18:25

@stationview local PH office - anonymously even - or would everyone know it was “that member of staff”?!

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 18:28

Had for gotten how you feel your life’s on hold when awaiting PCR results.... 😔

StationView · 18/06/2021 18:42

@JanFebAnyMonth, the HT would know it was me. If she persists in her crazy idea of holding an outdoor Speech Day then I will be ringing PHE anonymously.

MrsHamlet · 18/06/2021 18:53

Do you have an union rep in school @StationView? If not, contact your branch

StationView · 18/06/2021 18:55

I am the union rep Grin

MrsHamlet · 18/06/2021 19:03

Ah. Then they should know better than to mess with you! If I asked the branch person to, I know she'd make a call to the HT to point out how stupid he was. She'd probably also call the health protection team in our behalf.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 19:04

So what does yr union say?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/06/2021 19:08

You beat me to it Piggy.

Just off to see if U4T twitter has discovered the story yet.

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2021 19:10

My PCR has come back negative. Not heard of any positives yet.

cantkeepawayforever · 18/06/2021 19:14

I love the fact that in the new contingency framework for primary schools, YR, 1 and 2 must still be allowed to attend school in full.

I ca see that working really well for infection control in areas with infant schools....
