You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

🎉 Piggy

Forgot to say - Friday pm release on that update to guidance. What’s wrong with early or midweek releases. On the day of the Eng v Scot match. Not that they were trying to bury it.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 19:15

That (result(s)) is good piggy

The article and its links, not so much....
Haven’t read them all yet, but in the DsPH one, at the end it mentions a new approach to onsite (LFT) testing which will require less space and resources. Wonder what that can mean?!

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2021 19:18

Yeah cant, in 3 tier areas whole middle schools close and upper schools lose only one year group...

cantkeepawayforever · 18/06/2021 19:20

D'oh! I can see it working in those areas where Infant and Junior schools, though separate, are located near to one another, as perhaps the Y2s could use Junior facilities...but not when they are half a mile apart.....
Iamnotthe1 · 18/06/2021 19:24

@DanglingMod

I don't think anywhere else is doing transition days...totally against the guidance!
Only one of our secondaries is. We only have one child going there: I'm interested in how the schools intends to preserve his bubble whilst giving him a transition experience.
JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 19:27

We should be wise and not get too excited about a new Contingency Framework etc. Remember the education “tiers” in the Autumn??

No?

QED.

thecatfromjapan · 18/06/2021 20:12

Oh boy.

💐 to everyone getting a bit ground down. Blimey. It sounds pretty full-on with some of you!

Anyway.

Friday. Friday. Friday.

Yay!!!

MrsHamlet · 18/06/2021 20:26

I'm on my way to see my mum for my birthday 🥰

MsAwesomeDragon · 18/06/2021 20:39

Apparently everyone aged 12-30 in my county is now invited to get a PCR test. School age kids are apparently going to get instructions about where and when to test from schools next week. Anyone not at school just rocks up to a test centre from tomorrow. So the only person from my family who's supposed to get one is dd1.

MrsHamlet · 18/06/2021 20:43

It's pretty bad round us MrsAD... we had a number of confirmed positive on PCR today

HarrietDVane · 18/06/2021 20:45

Good news Piggy! Smile

My heart sank on reading that article Sad

Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2021 21:09

Isn't it interesting that that article mentions the press being kept in the dark...

TheHoneyBadger · 18/06/2021 21:15

Yes honey but it only works for two weeks?

Yes but in March, when they first went back and people still weren't confident about how effective the vaccination programme would be that 2 weeks would have bought a window of grace for families with legitimately vulnerable members or just very anxious about going back to school. Wasn't a point in March the highest false positive time? Could be people claiming positives to try and buy some time whilst they saw how things went with schools reopening. It would have also seen them through to the Easter Holiday ergo giving them a 4 week buffer in reality.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 21:32

I think it’s more likely to be that false positive rates are high at times of low prevalence, but I guess that could have contributed to it honey.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/06/2021 21:54

Not saying that would be a big factor but just that it's another reason the lft data is flawed (aside from being shite) because there's actually no evidence of results eg. people lying that they were positive, people lying and not reporting they were positive.

Doesn't make data very reliable imo.

noblegiraffe · 18/06/2021 21:59

Well the football was shit 😴

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 22:14

Have we lost, then?
(Defo not my thing, nor anyone’s in this house!)

[might have mistyped “thong” there - was tempted to leave it in and give you all a shock! Shock]

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 22:14

I mean I mistyped “thing” not “thong”

noblegiraffe · 18/06/2021 22:19

No one won. No one deserved to win.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 22:27

Oh dear, doesn’t sound good.

DS is negative, phew! 13 hr turnaround, best I’ve had.

noblegiraffe · 18/06/2021 22:28

Good news on the result! Go out for a walk just because you can!

TheHoneyBadger · 18/06/2021 22:31

That is good news Jan.

Getting a bit annoyed with the flawed logic and self centred world view of anti vaxxers.

They just keep saying well I'm low risk - err to yourself yes. On the one hand they call us sheep for taking the vaccine on the other they're smugly saying I don't need it because enough people are vaccinated without any sense of the fact that others (who they are insulting) took a risk for them that they weren't willing to take themselves.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 22:44

Thanks. Am trying to avoid too much walking at present as have suddenly developed old lady puffy ankles Confused

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/06/2021 22:46

(Yes have checked this via 111 online. Feel like it’s nothing serious altho the AI did decide I needed a call back from a nurse “in the next 24 hours”. Will they call in the middle of the night?!)
