You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The news no one wants to get.
Katherine really sorry to hear and it is just so so unfair isn’t it?!

KatherineOfGaunt · 26/05/2021 19:02

I can't say how devastated I am right now. I really needed this, and my DH really needed, this holiday for our mental health.

I'm not sure how being inside my house until next Friday is going to prepare me for the final term. I'll have two days to "do something" to feel as though I've had a holiday. You all know what it's like - sometimes you need that space to recharge properly or the subsequent term feels really hard.

I can't get over the fact that all year is been fine. But the first holiday since Christmas 2019 I have something to do, I have to isolate. I'm down in the dregs of positive mental health as it is.

Anyway. I've had two thirds of a bottle of wine so things are a bit numb right now! Let's talk about other interesting things. How are you all? What's been going on?

ChloeDecker · 26/05/2021 19:07

It’s the not being able to leave the house, it’s horrid. We’ll keep you company though!
My mind can’t really focus on anything other than TAGs at the moment but other than that, still putting one foot in front of the other at least!

TheHoneyBadger · 26/05/2021 19:12

Err work has been going on here and not a lot else. Sorry for your lost holiday Sad

Looks like it's closing in on us again Jan. At least year 11 and 13 are finished so if things do go to shit it won't effect their assessments.

Period 5 I wished my class a lovely weekend and they had to point out it's not Friday - wishful thinking I guess. It also feels like it should be end of year that we're coming to not half term.

I'm still on my first gin and tonic - I've even lost the will to drink Wink

TheHoneyBadger · 26/05/2021 19:13

Oh you have a year 11 don't you Jan - how is she doing?

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/05/2021 19:29

Thanks honey, she left on Friday, remember, which was also her birthday?

Going shopping to the notorious on the Data thread Rushden Lakes shopping centre tomorrow with friend. Oh s*! Hope no one from Bedford or Peterborough’s there... (joke.... kinda, apols piggy)

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/05/2021 19:35

@motherrunner

‘Dept for Ed had no plan’. Don’t have to tell us that!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-57241471

@KatherineOfGaunt Sorry to hear that. We had to isolate over Oct half term and Christmas. It sucks.

Just read this - did we know they made some kind of a plan in 2016 based on a flu pandemic? First I’ve heard of it!
RigaBalsam · 26/05/2021 19:36

Can I just thank you for suggesting Mr. Men books for my y11 leaving gifts. They went down a treat and we even had a few tears.

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/05/2021 19:41

Aw, lovely Riga! Did you tailor them to personalities?

Piggywaspushed · 26/05/2021 19:54

I may go to Rushden Lakes on purpose and breathe everywhere jan.

Guess who booked a vaccine!! It isn't for a few weeks but I have one in June and one in September.

The Sept one is after I've started my school direct course, but not on a school day. I'm hoping since it's on a uni day it won't be an issue. Our local centre only offered one option for each jab.

Piggywaspushed · 26/05/2021 20:56

Good news!

I just had my second. benefits of being in the Covid pit : brought forward by 5 weeks.

chocolateisavegetable · 26/05/2021 21:06

Kathering I'm so sorry - that really does suck. Flowers for you

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/05/2021 21:08

Wow piggy, so what will be the gap between yr doses?

Piggywaspushed · 26/05/2021 21:10

Just under 8 weeks.

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2021 21:13

That's good news, piggy, is your DH double-jabbed too?

I've just started a thread in the covid section... www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/a4255510-Russia-linked-PR-company-paying-influencers-to-post-anti-vax-disinformation

Piggywaspushed · 26/05/2021 21:14

Yes, DH had his about a week and a half ago. I intend to wander about at school now with a cattle prod til Friday to keep the little covidy fuckers away from me and that's mainly the staff. (Joke, lurkers! JOKE!!)

You been jabbed yet noble??

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2021 21:23

Hah yes, piggy one of the side-effects of me being jabbed was being banned because it made me a bit grumpy Grin

(And then unbanned. Phew).

So sorry for your lost holiday, @KatherineOfGaunt Sad I think that would just about break me right now. Not that we have anything planned as DD1 has Y12 mocks straight after half term and will mostly be revising.

Two more days to endure. But what a two days! So many deadlinesConfused

TheHoneyBadger · 26/05/2021 21:37

My jabs were 8 weeks apart even though they said it would be 12. I think they've done very well at shortening the gap as they got concerned about variants.

Sorry Jan - memory of a fish currently. Now I remember you saying she had had her last day of compulsory schooling now.

I can't cope with Rushden Lakes even without a contagious variant of a pandemic virus. I have only left the village to go to the gym for goodness knows how long now.

I have to try and force myself to bite the bullet and get on the scooter tomorrow. I know my confidence will soon come back once I get out riding. If I brave it I'll take myself to the gym. My friend who usually drives us there is in Wales and a lovely scooter is sat outside all paid for and insured and taxed but probably with the battery going flat so that has to be tomorrow's mission. Get on my damn bike! I have a new helmet and gloves and just need to get my protective jacket and trousers out of the loft. No idea why I'm so nervous!

DanglingMod · 26/05/2021 21:37

At least in secondary we don't count as part of any bubbles so no isolating even if you taught a positive kid, or gave them a detention or were shouted at in a corridor by them, or even punched by them!

PumpkinPie2016 · 26/05/2021 21:41

Joining back in after a break because of TAG madness!

Flowers for katherine that's awful for you Sad

Two more days for me until half term and it literally can't come soon enough! I still have a cold but it's getting better.

My vaccine is booked for half term yay!

Looking forward to spending some quality time with DS and DH as I feel I have been quite absent the last few weeks Sad

eitak22 · 26/05/2021 21:41

@KatherineOfGaunt that is shit! I'm so sorry 😞.

1 more day here with the children and itching were all done with each other.
