You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Jan has just broken the news to me that Egypt is on the red list.

I await hearing from my flight company. I 'think' they'll leave the flight running for now as there are updates in 3 weeks time but if it gets to within 4 weeks of flight they cancel. That's if I'm reading their covid promises correctly.

Just... Sad I don't want to lose my flat.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2021 20:05

Yes, noble bit of a shitstorm of stuff I don't really understand.

MrsHamlet · 03/06/2021 20:07

Argh honey. Is there no way round the flat situation?

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/06/2021 20:10

I suppose essential travel is allowed, could it come under that?

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/06/2021 20:10

But you’d have to isolate and test and goodness knows what

noblegiraffe · 03/06/2021 20:11

Sorry to hear that, piggy, Flowers can you start a thread in Health?

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2021 20:13

Two years since I've been able to get there now. I don't think I can do another year of this without being able to do the one thing I want and need to do. Fucking covid. I can't even find an explanation as to why.

I don't know Hamlet - I tried a work round and got let down by a friend - I really need to be there. Meh.

Not the right time for rational thinking probably. Just gutted currently.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2021 20:13

I looked and couldn't really see a place.

I can join you in the anaemia club though.

I have never eaten properly and think the pigeons are coming home to pooproost tbh.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2021 20:15

Red list requires hotel quarantine (uber bucks) and flights get cancelled anyway meaning you can't get there.

noblegiraffe · 03/06/2021 20:19

General Health seems quite busy, piggy.

If it's any consolation, I'm three weeks into the iron tablets and feel way better.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2021 20:21

Oh good. Mine seems to be folate related . God knows though.

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/06/2021 20:22

I’m sorry honey, and also piggy.

If anyone wants a cheery, short but happy-story thread, search on Worcester college

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2021 20:27

Oh I saw that. Was really sweet.

noblegiraffe · 03/06/2021 20:51

Reminds me of the teaspoon rest thread! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/4121556-Anyone-know-where-in-the-UK-I-can-get-a-teaspoon-rest

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/06/2021 20:58

Broom cupboard here we come (any newcomers: search for it on Staffroom)!

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/06/2021 21:16

As an aside, just read this quote in a BBC article from the mother of an 18 month old who (the woman) is traumatised about not being able to take him on holiday to Portugal now:
She was just about to book a trip to Portugal when the rules changed. "This holiday was everything for us our first with our baby who has had no experiences in his first 18 months on this planet," she says

Does she think “experiences” have to involve a theme park or a Red Letter Day purchase???

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/06/2021 21:19

@Piggywaspushed my gran had had it since I can remember. She is mid 90s and lives alone in retirement type flats. I think it can be painful at times and can ‘flare’ up now and again.

She has medication and sometimes exercises to manage it I think. I would say it’s important to try and manage it as best you can, and rest it when told to eg don’t soldier on at work if you’ve been told not to!

I think it can be frustrating at times, but she most definitely hasn’t missed out on life over the years! Don’t know if that helps at all - sorry to hear if you’ve got it as one more thing to think about that no-one needs.

noblegiraffe · 03/06/2021 21:23

Someone buy that poor baby a balloon and some bubble mix.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 03/06/2021 21:26

I'm cringing that traumatised baby quote could be my friend. She's complained so much about her kid not being able to go abroad. She is also an anti vaxer and fewmin that some countries may not let her in without it. She is mostly lovely but covid and travel have driven her a bit mad!

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2021 21:32

Not sure I do yet mrs HP. More blood tests to follow. Ironically. The GP has fascinated herself with my one off hand swelling when I phoned up about migraines.

Got to deal with the two types of anaemia first...

noblegiraffe · 03/06/2021 21:36

Are there different types of anaemia? No idea what type I’ve got!

MrsHamlet · 03/06/2021 21:38

I don't know why this is in my brain, but dried apricots are very iron-y.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2021 21:47

Oh yes, loads!

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/06/2021 22:04

Off to the Broom Cupboard (never been 1000th before 😊)!
