You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Morning. Thanks for the new thread.

Dreaming I am feeling rather envious of just 6 lessons til half term. I've still got 18 lessons to go Sad. 2 are assessments, and then I've got 4 lessons to babysit kids who've already finished everything. That'll be fun.

Piggy I hope you and your family all continue to dodge it successfully. It must be worrying for you. Flowers

The really iffy sexual behaviour and explicit talk started sometime between 2000 - 2010. I remember becoming increasingly alarmed by what I was hearing and seeing in corridors and particularly by lockers at break. I raised it a couple of times but no one was interested.
Yes stuff happened before that but it was isolated incidents. Suddenly it became widespread. A bit like Covid in fact.
I’m certain it was Internet and SM related.

My best ever was an answer to a Macbeth question about ambition in which I was told very earnestly over several pages that his ambition was his art collection. They'd fixated on the wrong bit of "thou art too full of the milk of human kindness".

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/05/2021 07:29

3 more teaching days and a full on training day booked for Friday with an outside trainer coming to school. Urgh.

Having that lovely y6 primary thing happening where my trickiest Bob hadn't been at all Bob-like all year, but is now my biggest challenge.

Pulling my hair out wondering what to do - and I've been teaching forever.

I love that. That child clearly has no understanding of the story. Even I, a maths teacher, know that Macbeth is not about an artist.

I'm in school today - in body but not in mind. Not in class but had to come in for planning meeting for next term. Urgh. Have put myself in a small meeting room miles from anyone so I can cough and do regular moaning as required. Will do planning meeting in the hall with all windows open. No one wants this 'thing' over half term.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/05/2021 09:03

And even before the day begins, I have to go and do cover becuse my PPA cover's husband's father has had a heart attack in a foreign country. I mean. FFS. I should learn to stay at home when I'm ill. Poor kids are going to get me, furious, all day.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/05/2021 09:24

Hugs to all. 3 more get ups.

Thanks for the new thread @StaffRepFeistyClub

Have decided to be strategic and not reactionary about moving school. I need to focus on building skills and then get a HoD role.

Here in Melbourne we're back in masks at school as of Wednesday.

Hey ho. It's the biggest PITA, as it's constant nagging. Not complaining on a fundamental level, as rules has got us where we are and I agree we need to step on it.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/05/2021 10:28

My favourite maths answer ever referred to "killer metres".

rule That's poo. Will you get the time back? Does primary not do supply?

TheHoneyBadger · 25/05/2021 10:48

Best for me was a science test where they were asked to draw a table.... you can guess what they did and they weren't joking.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/05/2021 11:33

My favourite exam answers often involve mislabelled maps. Or the fact kids can't distinguish between desert and dessert.

Apparent plants have adapted to living in desserts. Who knew?!!

borntobequiet · 25/05/2021 12:11

I had a kid who decided he preferred pubic centimetres to cubic ones.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 25/05/2021 15:16

Thanks for the new thread staff - you're very organised!
Slightly concerned that now noble has vetoed the nickname "nob" it could be shifted onto me... If it goes that way I'd much rather be "hob" 😂

CarrieBlue · 25/05/2021 16:36

There’s always the classic ‘orgasm’ when writing about organisms - and always funnier when given as a verbal answer

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2021 17:49

Three more cases today.

And shingles.

FrippEnos · 25/05/2021 18:28

Thanks staff

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/05/2021 18:32

Oh piggy, sorry to hear that. Does that explain why you’ve been feeling grotty (iirc?)?

Ammnot inpressed that the end result of this latest shambolic messaging is that nothing’s restricted in those areas where the new variant is already starting to cause hospital problems (at least in Bolton).

Also I saw a screenshot from somewhere saying schoolchild cases of Covid have gone up by 33% last week, but haven’t seen anything elsewhere? I seem to have fallen off the DfE’s attendance email alerts list....

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2021 18:46

I haven't got shingles!!!

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2021 18:47

DH mentioned that 33% too. Might be Guardian?

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/05/2021 18:50

Oh well that (no personal shingles) is good news!!

Yes checked and it was Guardian.

hedgehogger1 · 25/05/2021 19:11

Very outing but one of the Muslim kids scrawled "Free Palashine" that spelling- across one of my desks today. Don't even know where to start with that

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 25/05/2021 19:40

Not an exam answer, but one of the year 11s from my intervention group gave me a card saying "thanks for the maths intuition"

MrsHamlet · 25/05/2021 19:52

That's lovely, Hob
So wrong and yet so right
