You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

*thinking not itching!

Clearly very tired.

Piggywaspushed · 26/05/2021 22:00

I somehow ended up doing half the dept.'s marking for them. One of them gave me some choccies though so that was nice.

KatherineOfGaunt · 26/05/2021 22:10

That's nice, @Piggywaspushed! Not sure I'd ever volunteer to do someone else's marking... I did a bit favour for another teacher recently. We're talking MASSIVE - days off work. Yet nothing. Not even a public thank you, just one via email let alone chocolates. Lesson learned!

KatherineOfGaunt · 26/05/2021 22:11

big favour and days of work. Not off work!

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/05/2021 22:12

If yr DS were a DD you’d probably have had no choice about getting acquainted with R Lakes honey....

Piggywaspushed · 26/05/2021 22:12

I like marking....

KatherineOfGaunt · 26/05/2021 22:17

@Piggywaspushed LIKES MARKING!!

Sorry, Piggy, you're possibly the first teacher I've met who'd admit that!

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/05/2021 22:20

I've done some marking that wasn't mine today as well piggy. I think my thought process went "I've got a huge pile of tests to mark, what difference would a few more make?"

I'm finished my marking marathon!!! 2 (and a bit) classes of year 11 tests and 1 set of year 13 mechanics tests marked today. I am done!!! Pirate game for all tomorrow!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/05/2021 22:21

I like marking too...... I did another colleagues marking due to injury (them not me) and moderated everyone’s papers .... and ran some training on marking before Easter on marking 🤣🤣🤣

Piggywaspushed · 26/05/2021 22:21

Well, obviously KoG, I hate children, parents, most teachers, classrooms, SLT, teaching most lessons. Just like marking. And planning. Grin

KatherineOfGaunt · 26/05/2021 22:25

Grin Very odd. And that others are agreeing! Am I the only one who loves planning but hates marking?!

MrsHamlet · 26/05/2021 22:27

I also like marking. I hate moderating the work of people who don't know how to operate a mark scheme.

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/05/2021 22:28

I like proper marking - I don’t ever mark books to be clear. I’m maths though - I am sure I would hate marking actual writing with a passion. Nothing worse than getting the explain or compare and contrast question on a gcse paper....

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/05/2021 22:29

Not at all. I hate marking, and planning. I really only like the bit inside the classroom. And even then, only some classes.
GuyFawkesDay · 26/05/2021 22:34

So sorry you've got to stay in @KatherineOfGaunt what rotten luck

I don't mind marking proper stuff. I hate pointless task marking.

Bloody love making resources, and adore doing display boards etc. I think I might be a frustrated creative 🤣

How do you get away with not marking books? Our marking policy says I have to mark every book at least once a fortnight (I sometimes "forget" to mark a couple of classes books though). I hate marking books. Don't mind marking tests, because I don't have to write tedious corrections that they'll never look at. I love the questions where they have to explain something, generally because their explanations are bonkers and make me laugh. I rarely get to give any actual marks for those questions though (even at A Level)
GuyFawkesDay · 26/05/2021 22:36

We do whole class feedback based on "book looks" rather than tick/flick marking. Takes minutes. Fill in WCF sheet, whack under visualiser and get kids to action.

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/05/2021 22:37

adore doing display boards. Ooh, me too!!! I don't have time to do a proper job of it though. And then I get all offended when horrible children write graffiti on them, or rip bits off. I want them to stay nice, and that's apparently not an idea the children care for.

eitak22 · 26/05/2021 22:41

I saw a job near me for a Librarian and Display co-ordinator. Feel like a few people here would love it!

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2021 22:41

How do you get away with not marking books?

My department policy is not to mark books too. Waste of time.

Please could someone come and talk to primary???

Every book has to be marked for the next lesson of the same subject. So 5 lots of English & 5 lots of Maths per week, plus every other subject at least once..... OK, we do self and peer marking for some things, but the marking load of 100 books a day is slightly insane!

KatherineOfGaunt · 26/05/2021 22:45

SEN, @cantkeepawayforever, you want to join us. Marking doesn't really feature for me!

What does that mean? Primary or secondary? Displays everywhere or in the library?? I have good display ideas but can fail in executing them. Which is fine because my boss abs loves displays and is better than me, she fights me for them! Night all.
GuyFawkesDay · 26/05/2021 22:49

I'd love to be display coordinator!!

I drool over the schoolgirlstyle website (USA) and then use Photoshop and illustrator to make my own display edging and decorations. I'm such a geek.

eitak22 · 26/05/2021 22:55

Must admit I didn't look, have ideas for displays but not the skill, patience or coordination to actually do them.
