You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Yep, I'm doing cross again too.

I had a friend get the vaccine on Friday for very questionable reasons. She texted me to tell me. I was irrationally furious that she'd beaten me to it. Not because of my blood shit, but entirely because I'm in school the whole time while she's a sahm. I'm trying really hard to be grown up, but it's just so fucking unfair.

DreamingofBrie · 28/02/2021 23:46

Just wanted to say @HercwasanEnemyofEducation I'm going to use your compound shapes lesson with my Y7s tomorrow and I'm so excited at the prospect!

Tried an Area of a Triangle one last week, but somehow the dimensions on the shapes and the grids they sat on got all messed up for a few on iPads, but I don't think that will be a problem with your lesson. Thank you again Flowers.

Monday already. Literally feel sick with worry. About school, secondary offers, job applications, assignments.

And breathe.....

SmileEachDay · 01/03/2021 07:12

name

You’re ok. Make a list. Leave some of the worries on the list. You don’t have to deal with it all at once - some of it is outside your control.

For now, control the controllables.

SmileEachDay · 01/03/2021 07:13

The rest of you - have lovely days.

PS I was very impressed (and a bit scared) at all the clever maths talk. 🙃

WhenSheWasBad · 01/03/2021 07:19

You’ll be ok name keep powering through, do what’s needed and forget the rest.

WhenSheWasBad · 01/03/2021 07:22

Can anyone give me any advice regarding Teams? Microsoft Stream in particular.

I’ve got loads of videos of my lessons recorded on Stream. Is there anyway to organise them?

I’d love a way to save a copy of the lesson in the same folder as all the other lesson resources. If anyone has any suggests I’d really appreciate it.

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/03/2021 07:38

@WhenSheWasBad if you go to the class recordings there is an option to open in share point. You can move them about in there to where you want. I can give more detail if you need it!

RandomGrammarPun · 01/03/2021 07:39

Have you got a channel on Stream that you are the owner of? If so, you can put a link to that in your Teams (or on year folders on SP if you use that?) If not, you might have to request one is created by your IT bods.

Or otherwise, create folders within Teams or SP or both and put links in there to the lessons relevant to that year group?

RandomGrammarPun · 01/03/2021 07:42

Oh, yeah, vaccine envy continues apace: three friends at the same surgery as me, in group 6 for the same reason (carer) and are SAHMs have had their vaccines. Me, nothing. And I've been going out to teach their children and dozens more since January. (Not literally their children.)

JanFebAnyMonth · 01/03/2021 07:46

Good piece on R4 this morning about 0650, interviewing two secondary headteachers (in Kesteven and Chesterfield) about the testing/home testing and general challenges faced in next few weeks. Lots of mention of there being no SD in schools. Also one raised issue of how the results of tests done at home will be linked into school contact tracing.

Both said they thought rates of consent to the in-school testing were running at about 2/3 - 3/4, although one pointed out whether staff could actually get nervous students properly tested when faced with swabs was another matter.

Saucery · 01/03/2021 07:49

Yes, I imagine a fair proportion of parents will have signed the consent form expecting unwilling children to fall in line once at school.Which they may not be able to.

borntobequiet · 01/03/2021 08:11

I heard that R4 Today piece too. Justin Webb (I think) finished by asking how many of their staff had been vaccinated. The Kesteven HT said few, all over 60. The LIverpool guy said 2 out of 180.
I hope that's made some people think...

borntobequiet · 01/03/2021 08:12

Oops not Liverpool apparently

Thanks MrsHercule I’ll have a play around with it later. If I’m struggling I’ll ask for more help.

WhenSheWasBad · 01/03/2021 08:32

^The LIverpool guy said 2 out of 180.

I’m not at all shocked by only 2 out of 180 staff being vaccinated. I keep swinging from thinking it will be fine. To being concerned staff are going to get sick again.

piggywaspushed · 01/03/2021 08:52

All that MN would say there is that juts goes to show how school staff are in such low risk groups that they really have nothing to be concerned about.

That said, how do the heads know how many staff have been vaccinated?

Appuskidu · 01/03/2021 09:13

Can I ask what your heads have said about mask wearing whilst teaching? Have you got to wear them all of the time or do they say when you’re at the front of the room (supposedly) 2m away, you can take it off? Do you then put it back on when moving around the room? No visors?

It’s being discussed at the moment at my school but no decision made yet.

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2021 09:25

Our head sent an email around a few weeks ago asking if we’d been vaccinated in case they did decide to vaccinate by occupation.

In my school we have to wear a mask unless we are more than 2m away. So in my classrooms I’ll be wearing it all the time I think.

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2021 09:25

Oh and no visors instead of masks. The DfE guidance says that too.

Frlrlrubert · 01/03/2021 09:35

Masks unless 'teaching at the front' for us. We've got taped off zones already.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 01/03/2021 09:47

Question - for any of you who have heard about schools getting calls at the end of the day for 'leftovers', how did they get school contact details? Was it heads/staff doing it themselves?

MrsHamlet · 01/03/2021 09:51

We're not allowed out of our boxes. When I have sixth form, they're far enough away that none of us will need masks. Everyone else is way too close.

piggywaspushed · 01/03/2021 09:57

We can wear it if 2m+ (although I am dubious this makes sense...) away. With year 9 they are too close. And year 11 annoyingly although OK at a push.

I suspect the students will hate it.

I am having palpitations about getting them to read aloud. I may have to take every part of Macbeth myself...

Appuskidu · 01/03/2021 10:04

Right-I guess if you got a taped box at the front that makes things easier.

I can’t quite imagine how it will look in EYFS and KS1 at the moment!
