You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Schools LF Testing Consent Form www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4177881-Schools-LF-Testing-Consent-Form

Yet another load of schools sending out the superseded consent form which includes serial testing. It's so wrong that the government didn't foresee this and ensure all versions of old form were deleted withdrawn/ and that schools clearly explained they may have heard about the December proposals by that was not happening now.

But that would have involved admitting the DfE was wrong.

Instead confuse everyone, lessen what little confidence parents have, possibly open schools up to legal challenge even. Great.

@SmileEachDay

We should have CPD in here.
Agree! Although feel like I’ve had some on Desmos and teachermade this half term from you lot - not how to record it ok BlueSky though.....
HarrietDVane · 27/02/2021 22:15

Six hats?! I think I must be too new to teaching to have met that one (I'm only 6 years in - midlife crisis career changer!)

JanFebAnyMonth · 27/02/2021 22:16

Oo, Oo! Miss! Miss!
Six hats rings some kind of bell with me and I it's nearly 30 years since I was last employed as an actual teacher....

Harriet that sounds very funny.

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/02/2021 22:17

It was AWFUL. We then had to write it into every SoW as was the craze those days. And EVERY meeting had to be minuted/run using six hats..... it lasted about 3 months before the next thing came in....

JanFebAnyMonth · 27/02/2021 22:17

OTOH I might just be remembering Billy Blue Hat and his delightful milliner-loving friends.....

MrsHamlet · 27/02/2021 22:20

De Bono had the hats.
Harriet I think we did the same bloody awful "training". I'm now chuckling to myself at the thought that he potentially went between our schools and then went back to a real job.
Did anyone do the dogs thing?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 27/02/2021 22:20

I don't remember 6 hats. I remember something with terms like "effective participator" where each part of the lesson had different focuses on which learning skills were being used. It was obviously great with a long term impact Grin

I confess I am intrigued. What was the point of the hats? No doubt it will make a return under a different name before too long Hmm
JanFebAnyMonth · 27/02/2021 22:22

I just checked my memory was right (it wasn't!):

JanFebAnyMonth · 27/02/2021 22:22

I used to administer MBA programmes, it must come from those days.

HarrietDVane · 27/02/2021 22:22

Pack types!! We didn't have it but a friend's children went to a primary school where they were OBSESSED with it.

MrsHamlet · 27/02/2021 22:23

There was a red hat and a yellow hat and blue hat.. and some other hats. And if you wore the black hat you looked at the negatives of the thing which might be that you were wearing an imaginary hat

CarrieBlue · 27/02/2021 22:24

Yep, dog thing Confused

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/02/2021 22:25

Yes De Bono. Each hat allowed you to think in a different way.

Can’t remember them all but white hat was positives, black was negatives, blue was blue sky thinking/out of box stuff can’t remember the others. It was clearly effective. Maybe one was logistics and one solutions? Fuck knows. It was shit any way.

We actually sat in meetings where the sparkly hat would be out on the table eg the white one would come out and we’d all have to think of the positive about some shit idea....

MrsHamlet · 27/02/2021 22:25

That's them, Harriet.
I am trained to deliver pack types. I even have the branded dog bowls.
I should point out that I did not choose to train to deliver it; it was part of my job. It might also be why the school I was seconded to to do such shit went into special measures. Talk about fiddling whilst Rome burns.

HarrietDVane · 27/02/2021 22:25

Oh good grief! I've just read the wiki summary - what a load of cobblers! It's bound to be the Next Big Thing. They'll just change it to shoes instead of hats and market it as a brand new concept.
MrsHerculePoirot · 27/02/2021 22:25

I feel I missed out on the dog thing. We did something with the kids about geese and team work for two whole fucking days though....

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/02/2021 22:26

@HarrietDVane do it and make your fortune going round schools selling it....

MrsHamlet · 27/02/2021 22:27

Well if you really want I'll get my dog bowls out when I'm in school next week and we can pack type ourselves. Then we can log it as cpd.

HarrietDVane · 27/02/2021 22:28
@HarrietDVane do it and make your fortune going round schools selling it....
Now that is tempting, but I fear I wouldn't get through delivering the training without breaking into hysterics at the utter nonsense I was spouting.

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/02/2021 22:29

Ditto when vision statements came in. I think we had a two hour twilight where we sat in groups with big paper and coloured pens (probably hats colours) writing down vision shit then putting it up on the walls and all commenting on post it notes. Horrific.

Yes please. I’d hate to think I’d missed a useless fad in my time....

Ooh, I'm in! It's just like being a teenager again and filling in one of those personality quizzes to find out if you are compatible with an extroverted Sagittarius or something.
MrsHamlet · 27/02/2021 22:32

I would be a shit poker player.
