You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

LFD tests are Wednesday/Sunday evenings by 8pm here.

phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 18:24

Also, my response to doing a week long residential for no extra pay , or even AT ALL this year will be "Fuck off".

year5teacher · 22/02/2021 18:24

I’ve had an absolutely awful term. I’ve been in every day lumbered with the most challenging children in the year while the other members of my team have a class of angels. And it’s been made fairly clear to me that there’s nothing that can be done to practically support me. Behaviour management is a strength of mine but come on, I’m an NQT and it hasn’t been easy.
I’ve actually shouted this term. Like full on SHOUTED. I’ve literally hated my job at times. I am so, so pleased that it’s coming to an end. I’m worried about transmission but on a personal level, another term like that would have tipped me over the edge.

phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 18:25

We do Weds/ Sun too for LFT.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 18:25

I don't know much about the LFTs - do they get posted off or is it more like a pregnancy test?

TaxTheRatFarms · 22/02/2021 18:26

Agree Piggy re the “scared” hypocrisy. Whenever the tosh about lung bacteria/infections comes up, I gently remind them that millions of people in Japan, China, South Korea, Hong Kong etc are not dropping down with a mask induced lung infections. They probably just think I’m a big stinky liar though, and all those countries are just faking having billions of very alive citizens Smile

And I think the anti-mask parents would collapse in shock if they ever heard their own kids opinions on masks. The vast majority of our students pre-Xmas were of the opinion that masks were “alright”.

Saucery · 22/02/2021 18:28

Wed/Sun for us too, so cover can be planned the evening before. They develop in front of your very eyes, Its. Like the shittest magic trick ever,

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/02/2021 18:28

You just do it yourself. Takes half an hour for the result. At my school people started doing throat and nose, then gave up because of sore throats, so just did both nostrils. Makes no difference to the result - which is unreliable anyway.

Do not wee on the LFT!
RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 18:30

Whoever upthread had colleagues in with colds - Shock

You're supposed to get an actual proper test if you have symptoms - not go by the fake ones...

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 18:30

I am worried about reading aloud form books with my specs on and a mask though. DS wears glasses and is a bit down in the dumps. He, quite rightly, said 'they should invest in making class sizes smaller'.

BigBobBoots · 22/02/2021 18:31

Who is Bob? Why do I want to be like him?
I will be soooo pissed off if I (or my dc)end up isolating over Easter due to contacts at school - to be allowed to see people finally, but then not.
This feels like a real 'fuck you' to primaries after all we heard at Christmas about the highly contagious new variants.

phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 18:31

They're like a shit lung pregnancy test.
One colleague tested neg on Sunday night, husband rang with a positive LFT later on Monday lunch, she went for a proper one and BOOM! Whole reception bubble popped.

starrynight19 · 22/02/2021 18:33

We have a rota to do our LFT so different classes do different days so we aren’t faced dealing with more than two bubbles closing at the same time. We do it in the evening on our specified day.

HarrietDVane · 22/02/2021 18:33

Wed/Sun for us too. I am quite sceptical about their accuracy; you are supposed not to touch your tongue or any part of your mouth apart from the tonsil area as it allegedly voids the result. I am pretty sure I've accidentally poked my tongue/teeth/roof of my mouth while gagging on the things and yet I've not had a void result at all.

Viciouslybashed · 22/02/2021 18:34

Well! What a shower of shit this day was. Boris is a dick and I despair. As you were ladies...just needed to say it.

MrsHamlet · 22/02/2021 18:35

I teach Bob. Bob takes no shit from anyone. Bob says it as he sees it.
Bob will fail all his GCSEs but he's a loveable rogue.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 18:36

Btw, good news : secondary staff are to do LFTs at home it says in guidance

What guidance?

looseddaughter · 22/02/2021 18:37

I don't get why everyone on the news is saying 'He's been so unlike himself, so cautious....' How is all kids back in 2 weeks with no real extra measures cautious?

Those issues are the same for PCR tests. I've found a little touching to the tongue or whatever is OK, a lot, not.

The accuracy of the LFTs is related to their design.

I was brave and did my first school Test today, I note you get (hopefully) a Negative result which means "It's likely you were not infectious when the test was done."!

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 18:39

*Like the shittest magic trick ever,

And then the ultimate insult-you get a text from the NHS telling you that your test was negative-just after you’ve spent ten minutes inputting the data that tells them your test was negative!

GuyFawkesDay · 22/02/2021 18:40

Apparently there's no inconclusive test with LFT like there are with PCR tests. The useless ones just come back negative

Ha! This amused me the first time it happened, but the joke is really wearing thin now.

I feel like crap. So tired and tearful tonight.
