You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@Saucery

I’m not spending an extra second in a germ pit of a primary school more than I have to, so sod after school clubs.
^^ This.
Butmiss · 22/02/2021 17:27

And they can sod off with any ideas of catch up summer classes. I will be in the pub.

This is going to be an interesting one because you can't be directed to do any work outside of the 195 days.

and the extra lesson time if told to do so would be directed time and come out of the 1265 hours.

Monkeytennis97 · 22/02/2021 17:33

@RigaBalsam

Is it quite loud then money for a noisy class?
Oh yes. It's brilliant!
StaffRepFeistyClub · 22/02/2021 17:34

just smacked down a couple of whatapps messages - saying I am not vaccinated and whilst they are still WFH etc I will be in a crowded secondary school. I was very Bob

Nicely done, Staff. I am currently resisting doing something similar. Unfortunately I have eaten about 900 biscuits as a distraction technique.
hedgehogger1 · 22/02/2021 17:39

I'm just hoping we don't get some super mutation coming along. Mentioned it on another board and was told it was misinformation. That degree in molecular biology must have been a load of crap then

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/02/2021 17:40

I’ve been channeling Bob today too. Bit in a different way.

Just left work. See we’ve got bored of caution and data not dates already. Or the COvid recovery group have got at Boris again.
FFS.

Saucery · 22/02/2021 17:40

There’s probably a significant crossover between parents who piss and moan about having to wash masks and the parents who never clean butty boxes. I’ve had to attack a fair few in the sink with hot soapy water over the years.

namechangedyetagain · 22/02/2021 17:48

Not even 6pm and I've forgone dinner and opened the gin. Feeling really wobbly about going back to school tomorrow. And I don't know why. I just feel it's a big term for me, assignment, evidence folder hand in, moderation visit and job applications. After being busy planning all weekend I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and not very well prepared for anything.

And I've just had to order more uniform for the ever growing DS. He's going to get told off for having below collar length hair but hairdressers closed until April so tough.

Butmiss · 22/02/2021 17:50

@FrippEnos exactly! And if the kids are back in from March until July (and we all know that will be chaotic but still) they shouldn't need a huge catch up summer school?
I can think of two kids in my class who have done no work and that's because they aren't listening to their parents. They're 5...

StaffRepFeistyClub · 22/02/2021 17:53

We are expected to run at least one club. I used to run three but dropped to two in lockdown - all very popular with lots of students.

That will now reduce to just the one 'high-brow' club that attracts a few of the very smart kids in the sixth form during one lunchtime session and requires almost no effort on my half.

No way am I offering an after-school club ever again. SLT can con all the newbies into running them.

God forbid we'd expect parents to be able to tell their bobs what to do at 5yo.

Down to our slt (for us secondary teachers) now as to what the return to school looks like. If testing is obligatory then obviously we can't have all in from March 8th.

Hope decisions are made quickly so I know what I'm planning.

I too am on the gin already. I can now see who has booked slots for parents evening and it's not at all who I would've thought or who it makes sense to talk to. Meh.

MrsHamlet · 22/02/2021 18:02

@MrsHerculePoirot

FFS you lot what are you worrying about. They’ll all be facing the front you know. And 8th March is 3 weeks after the middle of April. Keep up.

looseddaughter · 22/02/2021 18:07

Sorry, I mainly lurk but had to post after this announcement and my dept WhatsApp is silent - think everyone's in shock. I only teach Y11 - 13 so for the majority of my classes it looks like going back not knowing what we're supposed to be aiming for. When will we get the guidance? It's not really the 2 weeks' notice he promised is it (I know he wasn't referring to exams then but I hate the thought of going back to mask refusers all going 'What are we here for?'....

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 18:15

Hi loose, nice to know there are some nice lurkers. I saw Thursday on Twitter.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/02/2021 18:17

If you have to do LF tests, what days do you do them on? We are looking at staff being asked to test twice a week at home. I'm feeling a little cynical about the timing of when we are being asked to do them and wonder how it matches up with others.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 22/02/2021 18:17

Thursday for ofqual/DfE and exams.

What's the short story with lateral flows? How long can you delay for?

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 18:18

I love U4T's batshittery about the dangers of mask wearing whilst they call us all scared for being concerned about catching and actual very contagious virus!

Btw, good news : secondary staff are to do LFTs at home it says in guidance.

HerdyGerdy · 22/02/2021 18:18

I think our next thread title needs to contain the phrase ‘be more like Bob’. Bob shall lead us to freedom😂😂😂😂

They want the results for Monday and Thursday so asked us to do them on Sunday and Wednesday by 7pm.
phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 18:22

@Saucery Don't wash them! I bin them with a flourish. "THAT is what happens when your lunchbox is left!!!"

And then if it's a good one, take it out after school, wash it, add it to the communal tupperware cupboard in the staffroom which we all freely pinch from!
