You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Ooh I’m first in, quickly place mark then off to teach.

Medra · 22/02/2021 08:52

Hope everyone’s day goes as well as it can, all things considered. I’m irked by an email from the head about how they trust that we will all rise to the challenge and serve our community.

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 08:53

Blimey, think it’s going to be best to stay on here today. What a fucking shitshow.

HerdyGerdy · 22/02/2021 08:57

Well this is all a shit storm isn’t it? I just feel constantly sick with it all. I hate the thought of being back and everything that entails. I also am really struggling to cope with the sheer workload of working online. Also going to avoid the rest of the internet today 😂

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2021 09:10

Well, I have started my crash diet to enable me to fit into my work clothes in two weeks' time.

That's all I can say. Have had it.

but am I fuck going to do summer catch-up

SmileEachDay · 22/02/2021 09:14

I think we might need this thread today....

SmileEachDay · 22/02/2021 09:17

Haaaa me too Ange

Mmmm lemon water for breakfast ~and all the coffee~

Beachhuts90 · 22/02/2021 10:01

Thanks staff for the new thread.

I am really annoyed that Boris said like 2 weeks ago to NOT listen to anyone but him, and then went and leaked the whole plan to all the papers. THIS IS WHY WE DO NOT TRUST YOU.

It all feels a bit hopeless for ever having fun again, doesn't it? In school, rates rise, the bookshops and pubs and seeing your friends is cancelled. Just seems like an endless cycle of it.

Also, have they extended the furlough scheme? Imagine being shop or restaurant staff right now, knowing that there wasn't significant spread of infection with the safety measures put in place, but the only thing allowed to go back is something with basically no safety measures that makes the rate go up and up.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 10:06

Just placemarking. Yes, furlough extended til August!

PumpkinPie2016 · 22/02/2021 10:07

I literally can't believe what I am reading in the press today! So much for being cautious!

Why can't they do what Scotland/Wales/NI are doing?

I am hoping the press are wrong but I very much doubt it 🤦‍♀️

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2021 10:08

Why can NO ONE in the media see the glaring issue, when they re-iterate that meeting other people in an indoor, poorly-ventilated space is an absolute no-no, that this is EXACTLY what is going to be happening in schools.
It's irrelevant whether "children need to be in school" or not. Either it's OK or it isn't.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 10:09

I’m just hoping the scientists can knock some sense into Boris’s head

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2021 10:11

This last horrendous period of lockdown we've all endured since January, will be pissed right up the wall and we'll be back to square one.

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2021 10:12

No chance of that. They've been thrashing this one out for weeks, and this is the end result.
namechangedyetagain · 22/02/2021 10:21

I'm on a study day today. Feeling really apprehensive about the term ahead. I'm also not fully understanding the Gov rationale. I can't see my 70 yo vaccinated mother but I'm fine to be in a class of 30 children who have no concept of hygiene or distance. I had covid over Christmas and I do not want to carry it home to my family who managed to escape it first time round -through basically abandoning me for 2 weeks

Anyhow. I'll shut up and get on with my studies now Grin

Good luck whatever happens today, Chris has a message for you.

We are totally at the mercy of the choices that every single child in our "bubble" makes.
Anyone else sick of the "bubble" term? I'm still reading posts on wider MN that parents genuinely believe that they mean schools are safe. Along with the yellow and black tape.

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 10:36

This.

Have also just had an email from our EP who has to do an assessment with an EYFS child and says it will need to be done remotely. I KNOW that he’s been vaccinated!

OytheBumbler · 22/02/2021 10:41

I'm interested to hear from the unions about whether they're going to mention the Section 44 letters again. It seems obvious that the government are not 'following the science'.

I'm so so so angry.

Another dept member off with covid so more work to cover. Boris and his fucking ideas will damage us all.

All I've seen is parents jumping for joy on SM. no concern about staff.

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2021 10:46

Has it actually been said that all children in all year groups will be back on the 8th? Or just "all schools open?"
And anything about testing/mitigations?

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/02/2021 10:51

Someone asked at end of last thread about new shielding guidance. You can use this calculator here to work out your risk and if you get absolute value of 0.5 (check that though) you possibly should be shielded....

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/02/2021 11:03

Aargh I need to stay in here, I’m going to get myself told off otherwise. WTF is it that people don’t understand about schools affecting the whole community and not just staff (particularly teachers?).... and the fact it isn’t just about ‘deaths’...

So tempted to hand in my resignation.... looked up Mark McCourt and if he wants anyone to work for him producing resources....

Monkeytennis97 · 22/02/2021 11:17

Hello all. Not feeling the love for teaching today either. Back to school, no vaccine in sight. Arse.
