You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Oh great. I was already a bit worried by the "review mask wearing at Easter", now am very worried.

They originally said they'd look carefully at the data before deciding whether to continue after Easter. I have no idea what they'd be looking for: it's not like there's a control school population who won't have been wearing masks, unless you think of pre Christmas when rates were much higher etc etc.

So if rates appear still low by Easter - when some kids will have only had about 8 days actually in school because of the testing maybe - does that mean masks or working OR that there's no need for masks?

Conversely, if rates are increasing fast, does that we mean we need to continue with masks OR that masks aren't helping??

Meaningless.

Still no piggy.... do hope she's OK.

ineedaholidaynow · 25/02/2021 12:06

I can't stand how Gavin never answers questions from the Opposition and just says they obviously don't want schools to be open. He sounds like a number of the teacher bashers on MN

RandomGrammarPun · 25/02/2021 12:13

I think it means masks optional for schools to choose not for individuals. Still totally undermining, though. And they should have been compulsory.

It's almost as if they've figured out that Unions couldn't kick up a fuss if they give us tests and masks and then are quietly pt not so quietly undermining both.

ineedaholidaynow · 25/02/2021 12:18

He has now said the use of masks will be reviewed at Easter

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/02/2021 12:24

Boris said that last week unfortunately @ineedaholidaynow

I mean, the unions definitely could kick up a fuss. But I don't think they are going to.

MN seem to be quick off the mark today and deleted the post suggesting heads should select teachers who haven’t done much during lockdown and submit their names to the dfe so they can be forced to work through the summer!

Thank you, MN!

WarriorN · 25/02/2021 12:38

WTF?!

Shit, we have no hope. A parent has started a thread saying she’s having second thoughts about her son being tested as she can’t bare the thought of him having to isolate.

We are perilously close to needing a new thread - shall I pop over to the broom cupboard and put the kettle on? Or do you think we need something stronger...?

I think there will be lots who will refuse to test in case this happens :(
JanFebAnyMonth · 25/02/2021 13:00

Just thinking about how many extra masks to buy my own DC: if the DfE do declare them non-"compulsory" (Hmm...) after Easter, will they still at least be allowed in classrooms? Altho of course if majority stop wearing them I doubt many kids (inc mine) would hold out.....

JanFebAnyMonth · 25/02/2021 13:01

I see Gav said the appeal process would be two stages, first to schools and then if necessary to exam boards.

Thanks Harriet. Definitely something stronger for me.

A few people worrying about the bacteria children will be breathing in through their masks - a massive u4t cry. I wonder - are the children of U4Ters that dirty that any mask they have will cause instant infection? Are their children blackened like Victorian chimney sweeps? Or it is a potential intelligence issue - DC can’t understand that they should change their masks regularly? Are they implying Lennie-esqe issues?
SmileEachDay · 25/02/2021 13:47

So, if I’ve got this right, Bojo announced MASKS!!!! TESTING!!!!! SkoolsRSafe!!!! on Monday and by Thursday it’s basically “as you were”?

Is that a fair assessment?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/02/2021 13:57

Yep.

To be fair to my head, our risk assessment is tighter than before Christmas. No parents on site at all, 5 minute slot for gate opening for children to come in and leave, masks everywhere, windows open the whole time, limits on staff room and so on. Expectation to be gone from school asap at the end of the day too - to reduce hanging around and chatting.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/02/2021 14:26

The difference between a U and 1 is huge in terms of prog 8 though, are performance measures a thing this year? I can't keep up!

Shite day yesterday, can't say much but mega balls up by me has led to someone else being in lots of trouble. Nothing I can do but feel awful.

noblegiraffe · 25/02/2021 14:28

No league tables this year either. It would be stupid if they did have them, everyone would be able to see just how crazy the results are.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/02/2021 14:34

Thanks noble. Bet it won't stop some "best results ever" dick Heads.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 25/02/2021 16:05

@Appuskidu
Perhaps we could have a banner on top of every social media site, showing the lazy teachers who have done no work? Name and shame them. I’m thinking along the lines of The Handmaid’s Tale or perhaps like Cersei Lannister walking through the streets from the Sept. I’m not going naked though.

noblegiraffe · 25/02/2021 16:06

Move to the broom cupboard everyone!
