You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Thanks Appu, off to read.

I don't teach A'level History but can easily pick the brains of colleagues who do if you want me to.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 18:46

I'm only seeing guidance for during lockdown on that link and even then it doesn't mandate use of facemasks. Bit confused.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/02/2021 18:50

Our LFTs have to be done Monday and Thursday. They've explained it thus: If we test positive on Sunday then the class needs to be told to isolate from the Friday. If we get a pos test on a Monday we don't as more than 48 hours has passed since we were in class.

That and it means we are in to teach on the Monday and no scrabbling around for cover on Sun night.

Cantaloupeisland · 22/02/2021 18:50

Everyone going on about how good it is that they're being cautious- am I living in a parallel universe?! How is everyone thrown back in cautious? Still won't be able to see my parents over Easter as they live too far away, but can mix with thousands of others indoors in a couple of weeks. Seriously fuck this.

MrsHamlet · 22/02/2021 18:50

I do hope the real Bob comes back to school and doesn't get pxed. He's keeping me going right now 😂

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/02/2021 18:50

LFTs at our school are Mondays and then Thursdays/Fridays at mo. Don’t know if that will change now they’re going to be done T home when we all go back? Also don’t know where I will e teaching as hall that was classroom/break area room is currently test centre 🤷‍♀️

Its the usual stupidlanders.

There is no point in engaging.

@SmileEachDay

year5teacher

You’re doing brilliantly. Keep going.

Thank you so much. 🥺 I feel so wobbly tonight about going back tomorrow even though I know it’s only 9 more days.

Note last para of this article, all interesting explaining the SAGE modelling which guided Boris ... to some extent anyway!

Actually at least the masks thing shows that he's not completely influenced by U4T, doesn't it.

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 19:00

Anti fog wipes needed for glasses wearers.

I'm very happy about facemasks. Though do struggle to hear the children who sit nearest the open window, especially when lotties or tractors go past... (some were choosing to wear masks last term and we turned a blind eye - but it was also the quietest spoken children who were nearest the windows on the immoveable seating plan).

GravityFalls · 22/02/2021 19:09

@year5teacher, it’s such a horrible year to be an NQT. I’ve been in despair at points and I’m a veteran and have no behaviour issues to deal with (I’m in a college). It’s just been so bleak and grim and hard.

I confess when I had one truly crummy job I made myself a table of how many days there were until I’d leave and coloured one in each day. Childish but made it more tolerable.

namechangedyetagain · 22/02/2021 19:09

@year5teacher you're an NQT in the middle of a pandemic. Not only that but I assume your training was also cut short? Give yourself a break Flowers

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 19:13

The guidance and the press saying 'masks to be worn in some secondary classrooms'. No not some. Basically all. Is this so they can maintain the fiction that there is socially distancing within school??

HarrietDVane · 22/02/2021 19:14

@year5teacher Thanks Your NQT year is tough at the best of times, and these are absolutely not the best of times. Hang in there.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 19:16

But do you think my DS's A Level class of 5 in an open plan classroom will have to wear masks?

No! I don't need to hear how hard the NQT year is

Ok, not in that case then!

Schools are safe. Vanishingly small risk to students according to BoJo.

WHAT ABOUT TEACHING STAFF?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/02/2021 19:41

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but looking at the road map -
If you have 4 steps and step 1 has schools and mixing outside with 1 other person starting on 8th March and rule of 6 outside, outdoor sports and leisure facilities and outdoor parent groups opening up on 29th March, don't you have a 5 step plan?

And if you do decide it's only a 4 step plan, but you need 4 weeks to assess and 1 week to give notice before moving on, why is the 5 weeks measured from the 8th and not 5 weeks from the point that you've opened everything in that step?
