You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Mine too @Saucery. Big birthday meet ups, park meet ups, relatives visiting. And that was just the "keyworker" and vulnerable kids. I got in to find more "keyworker" kids in my bubble. Now up to 25. It feels really unsafe and i'll have another 10 in in a fortnight! My local fb feed is already full of parents looking firward to meeting up once the kids are back in. Fucking shitstorm.

starrynight19 · 22/02/2021 17:02

Hope everyone’s ok after today’s news. Took some time away from here needed a break. @mumsneedwine glad you found your way over here. Don’t blame you at all for not being able to do this. Flowers

Not even entertaining the main boards anymore it’s toxic.

MrsDanvers123 · 22/02/2021 17:02

We've been wearing masks in the classroom for teaching since September - kids can hear fine though I was having a hoarse voice from projecting my voice! If I was behind my desk with its perspex screen, I took it off (unless it was a day when I couldn't be arsed with make-up...)

chocolateisavegetable · 22/02/2021 17:04

Did you spot the clever strategy from Boris?

Scientists: " if you open the schools to all children, the R number will go up

Boris: "OK, let's abandon all concern about the R number"

From Sky News:

But if you look at the four criteria the government has set out that it will use to judge whether each stage of lockdown can in fact be lifted, they don't include the R number.

So, you could get a situation where the rate of infection is rising, yet lockdown lifting continues apace.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/02/2021 17:04

I actually really want to see my parents before we all go back. Both me and my parents will have had first jab and be past three weeks then too...just outside but with a hug would be amazing.

That's what we've just organised. Loads of people will be doing the same. I'm not saying it's right, but nor is putting everyone back to school.

Also, online learning is going to drop off a cliff now. Only my hardcore 5 will turn up.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 22/02/2021 17:05

I'm wondering if my school will actually allow us to wear masks in the classrooms.

Saucery · 22/02/2021 17:05

@phlebasconsidered they were so sweet and delighted to have something to tell me. I made oooh, sounds lovely! noises while inside I was screaming well, I did Fuck All apart from walk the local area so much I’m going to start a new career as a combo Tour Guide and Dog Walker. TO KEEP YOU ALL SAFE

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 17:06

Yep, same here.

Some people will always go one more step ahead of what they’re ‘allowed’. When we can only exercise with one person, everyone was already sitting with others in the park. When they can sit with others in the park, they’ll sit with others in their garden/house. When schools are back, it’ll be play dates, sleepovers and takeaways.

This plan doesn’t seem to have considered that opening schools like this will have any impact at all on rates.

I know it's mean, shallow and wrong, but I'm actually hoping Johnson and co catch Covid again - a new vaccine escape variant. As I'm pretty sure they will have been first in the queue to be vaccinated

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 17:08

Twats.

I presume they mean the masks?

flumposie · 22/02/2021 17:10

Myself ( cev) my Mum ( 84) , my sister ( nhs) and neice ( carer for a disabled child) have all had our first vaccine over 3 weeks ago. So yeah I'd rather take my chance seeing them before the 8th than my colleagues and pupils who haven't .

noblegiraffe · 22/02/2021 17:10

Yep. Looking forward to these lung studies.

It’s bad to have fun watching them lose it, right?

Of course. Last summer we opened officially on 2nd June, beach was busy during half term. I know this because i was also there.

RigaBalsam · 22/02/2021 17:11

How do those voice amplifiers work? Can they go through a pc and whiteboard speakers?

HarrietDVane · 22/02/2021 17:11

Some of ours have been enjoying play dates and sleepovers already. One of our TAs (a braver woman than I am) challenged a neighbouring family (whose children come to our school) about it and was told it didn't matter because they were all in the same class bubble anyway.

Beachhuts90 · 22/02/2021 17:12

I've been wearing a mask this term, but when they all come back, I really don't think I should. I am 1:1 with a KS1 student with autism who really struggles when I wear a mask in the hallway etc. I just don't think this child can handle me wearing a mask all day. That seems to be an exemption in the guidance, right? People who use facial expressions for communication?

I want to follow the rules, obviously, but the child's needs come first for me. I am hoping I'll be able to just wear it in the hallway, lunch hall, etc and just not the classroom.

Saucery · 22/02/2021 17:12

Who is forcing them to wear one mask? Buy enough to change them often enough, thick wankers.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/02/2021 17:15

I'll do what I did before - we have to wear a mask in the hallways/everywhere else, but it was optional in the classroom. So I didn't wear one at the front of the room, but when I needed to sit by a child, I did. They were totally fine with it.

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 17:16

I am rather enjoying the outrage from some of the Us4Them types on mask-wearing.

I hope heads have the power and gumption to send home anyone that refuses and doesn’t have a medically valid reason.

I also hope the kids who are wearing them think suitable ‘what a total wanker you and your mum are’ thoughts about people whose mummy writes a lying note to try to get them out of wearing one.

Monkeytennis97 · 22/02/2021 17:19

No there is a little box speaker. You wear it like a handbag. Very good.
FrippEnos · 22/02/2021 17:21

things I'm looking forward too

"my mum says I don't need to wear a mask"
"you can't make me"
"I'm not doing any detentions cos Coivd" (usually said by those that don't have to wear a a mask cos mum says so"

Oh and the one that I am looking forward to most, but only because it will be on MN boards
"Why aren't teachers running afterschool clubs, the government says that they can"

RigaBalsam · 22/02/2021 17:22

Is it quite loud then money for a noisy class?

Saucery · 22/02/2021 17:23

I’m not spending an extra second in a germ pit of a primary school more than I have to, so sod after school clubs.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/02/2021 17:24

I'm never running an after school club again. Or going on a residential without time off in lieu. All goodwill towards the profession has gone as a result of this. Luckily there will be new recruits who will do it all, I'm off to be whateverhisnameis in the staffroom.
