You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

No mention of how those tests are going to happen. No specifics as to how secondary will return. If testing has to happen it literally can't be an all back at once.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/02/2021 15:48

12th April is ages away. I'm going to be grey by then.

BabyYoda9 · 22/02/2021 15:49

All back. I could actually cry. Twice weekly tests in secondary? Can't wait to see how that plays out...

I've ordered more masks from www.brilliantmasks.co.uk They're designed by a team at Alder Hey and they are a lot thicker than M&S ones, can feel the difference when I am running between the different classrooms in school.

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 15:51

Twice weekly tests in secondary? Can't wait to see how that plays out...

Twice weekly tests-is that LF tests for pupils?? At school or at home?

Lancrelady80 · 22/02/2021 15:52

Ah, okay. Rule of 6 outdoors inc gardens, and of two households, from start of Easter hols.

namechangedyetagain · 22/02/2021 15:53

Hmm think I might hold off getting DS a termly bus pass all the same.... this all seems rather quick and I can't see a very smooth term with no closures.

Lancrelady80 · 22/02/2021 15:54

So if it all goes tits up, no rolling back or reinstatement of measures, just not moving forwards.

He's a bloody fool.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 15:55

We have no details yet. No one knows how testing fits with this.

Starmer is making me want to shout more than Boris tbh. He's supposed to be opposition not the cheer squad. Token mention of vaccinating teachers when it's too late anyway for 8th March.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 15:57

Why is Starmer even talking? Am I missing something? Makes sense for the leader of the opposition if they're actually opposing but this is just waffle.

There's no labour party is there?

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 22/02/2021 15:59

@TheHoneyBadger

He's lost a lot of hair. The word 'irreversible' is back.
Alas, I think you're right.
MrsHerculePoirot · 22/02/2021 16:01

FFS you lot what are you worrying about. They’ll all be facing the front you know. And 8th March is 3 weeks after the middle of April. Keep up.

hedgehogger1 · 22/02/2021 16:02

It would be nice if they could plan and publish some guidance for schools at the same time. This waffle doesn't help with anything

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 16:03

Boris didn't respond to any of Kier's questions anyway

TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 16:04

That has literally cleared up nothing for us.

How are they returning to school? How is testing being facilitated? When will some dfe actual guidance land rather than a grand schools will be open announcement.

What time is this evening's conference does anyone know?

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 16:05

Nothing on DfE website yet.

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 16:05

When in the road map are MP’s going back into Parliament in person, did he mention that?

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 16:06

Press conference is 7pm

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 16:07

He mentioned something about returning to Parliament but not when just that they would have to look into it

TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 16:07

And never an apology or investigation about leaks. Seemingly it's fine for the press to constantly be pre informed about things? Meh!

Still don't know what to be preparing for the week of 8th of March because we don't know who, if anyone, will be in or if we're going to be testing or what. Bored of this government but can't see the 'opposition' would be any better at all.

SarahLou67 · 22/02/2021 16:08

It’s almost a case of suck it up and get on with it in schools. There will be no going back and no further school closures now. So just chaos. I cannot begin to imagine how you guys in secondary are going to get that testing done. I was worried when it was announced just before Xmas. Here we are going back in 2 weeks and not a word from the DfE on how it will all work.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 22/02/2021 16:08

@piggywaspushed

I actually can't think of a local school that isn't open in the summer! Or a group of schools as a hub.

Also, private schools do this and could extend it as part of their charity status.

No, piggy, please not, I work in one and I don’t want to go in because I have a holiday booked!! Plus I hate everyone right now and won’t be doing anything charitable or nice ever again 😩. U4T are welcome to use my plaguey classroom if they want and it doesn’t involves me.
flumposie · 22/02/2021 16:12

That's it. My mum was recently in hospital after a bad fall ( twice since June). I've not seen her for months . I'm going to see her before 8th March as we are back to it's ok to be mixing with hundreds of kids a day but not one person in their house. Fuck you Boris.
