You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Omg at the vaccines minister! Just wow.

Struggling with irritation at a lazy colleague today and a hod who doesn't actually tackle it. She is full time and paid for full time yet seems to do nothing asked of her and gets away with it.

I'm still trying to think we don't know anything yet. Clutching at straws probably but newspaper speculation is not the same as an announcement despite the reality of the last year 🙏

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 22/02/2021 13:32

Piggy I promised I'd let you know - I have my vaccine appt this Friday and DH has to phone on Weds to book his...not sure why they're arse about tit🤷🏻‍♀️🤔🤦🏻‍♀️ he really should be before me.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 13:36

That's good news pussycat! Our area is painfully slow...

TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 13:36

6 out of 30 year 7 kids have engaged with today's lesson. It will be my responsibility to somehow magic the learning they've missed into their heads will it?

So much work for nothing

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 13:39

OMG at that ONS thing! Bit effing late!

I got the impression this morning that Zahawi was lying to script and was flat footed when Louise Minchin was helpfully over 50...

I can well imagine that opening will be announced with "more details to follow" and we get those details the week before, and then are suddenly expected to do 900 lateral flow tests in a day, or whatever.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 13:47

Did LFT with our KW kids this morning. And 2 bubbles now closed due to positive results. 9 staff isolating. Going well so far !

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 13:49

If secondary schools have got to somehow test all pupils this week or next (twice?) -that’s going to be a pain in the neck not only for whoever is doing the testing (presume it won’t be you teachers as they’d have to bring you off timetable? Would it be SLT or admin or TAs or Kev’s mum??) but how are all the kids going to get to school for their appointment? If they’ve got to get public transport, it rather defeats the object?! Most of my DC’s school get the train in! They then will miss lessons that they are supposed to be in as well.
ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 13:50

Surely it's not much point testing students this week, apart from those actually in

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 13:56

Peston is reporting masks in classrooms for secondary.

Those are quite small confidence lines (I forget exactly what they are called) for education staff too so pretty solid data....

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 13:57

Might use this with my sociology class this pm to prove why the original data should not have been touted as reliable Grin

Might plop it on the data thread....

Thought you all might appreciate this phrasing

I am still raging at the policy by leak.

If I “leaked” a students CAGs before I was supposed to I’d presumably be disciplined? But Bojo can leak an entire policy, affecting millions of people and 🤷🏻‍♀️

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 13:59

We are so far ahead of the other jobs we are always told we should be grateful for/ grateful we aren't!!!

TaxTheRatFarms · 22/02/2021 13:59

Yikes mumneedswine that’s not what you need! Stay safe!

SmileEachDay · 22/02/2021 13:59

“Murder yeti” 😂😊

SmileEachDay · 22/02/2021 14:00

*student’s

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 14:03

Has anyone got a link to the ONS data? I can't save the screenshot...

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 14:07

‘Murder yeti’ is superb!

I do hope the unions get in that ONS data. Hospital staff were a way down-is that due to vaccination? PPE? Only dealing with 1 masked patient at a time?

I’ve got a hospital appointment next month and have been given strict written instructions on what I must do...coming alone, mask wearing, coming in a certain door, temperature checks, ringing doorbell first etc etc-nothing quite like the chaos of a school...!

There has been gaslighting and belittling of what schools are really like from the beginning here-our media is a total disgrace and has such a lot to answer for.

WindFlower92 · 22/02/2021 14:16

Ooh I'm joining this thread, I didn't know you all hid in here! I'm going to be 29 weeks pregnant on 8th March and my union has said they'll support me in a request to wfh, but I can already tell my school will tell me it's safe to be in when it's not! Clashing with family aswell because they're all desperate for their kids to go back so apparently I'm selfish in not wanting the same for them! Definitely looking for a new job soon, this year has completely worn me down.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/02/2021 14:17

Fucking hell - that data! It's almost as if we knew what we were talking about!!

Lowest confidence interval is higher than every other one on the list apart from caring professions. No shit Sherlock, we practically work in a caring profession. Scream.

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 14:18

Why are secretarial/managerial so high I wonder??

But that data, plus masks if Peston's right, are good news in a sense.
