You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

I’ve spent all day telling children how excited I am to see them in person soon when they ask me if I’m looking forward to it like them. This is why on MN everyone says things like their child’s teacher can’t wait to go back etc...

I had the day from hell today... every lesson I tried to teach I’d somehow fucked up so that was great.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 19:59

@Piggywaspushed

MrsH , I haven't been out. No one has...
Good! "Just" a migraine then :(
TheHoneyBadger · 23/02/2021 20:04

I never drink fizzy drinks (unless they contain alcohol) but I do think it's the combo of caffeine and sugar that works best so not saying diet coke. It's so odd because I don't like it but when I'm chugging coke for a migraine it's like it's my bodies long lost best friend and it just inhales it Confused

I don't have a tv license but no doubt the gav v piers clip will be on youtube straight after. Hopefully someone has at least briefed gav that the 8th of March isn't 3 weeks after mid April.

Snap! And I genuinely am looking forward to seeing them all in person again. Unfortunately I am also worried about catching Covid and passing it on to my family.
CallmeAngelina · 23/02/2021 20:17

Yeah, it's odd isn't it, how all those "real life" teachers are so "gung-ho" and "can-do" and "can't wait to see your child," yet all of us on here are miserable lazy fuckers who hate our job and have mental health issues.

Monkeytennis97 · 23/02/2021 20:27

Sorry if this has been answered before but is isolating close contacts back on when we go back or is it just the unreliable LFTs?

Isolating still.
RandomGrammarPun · 23/02/2021 20:35

I am SO happy about that.

Piggy - sorry to hear about the migraines. I hope it doesn't force you to pull out of the interview: go sock it to them.

Appuskidu · 23/02/2021 20:38

The only thing that worked for my migraines was triptans but that’s probably not very helpful at this time of night when the shops are closed and if you have an interview tomorrow as well.

Good luck for tomorrow-hope your head clears in the night.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/02/2021 20:39

Definitely isolating. I was sending links to journal articles etc to HT about it at one stage. She was probably sick to death of me. She has let slip though that she's an avid twitter person which reassures me that she doesn't get her information uncritically from the dfe

chocolateisavegetable · 23/02/2021 20:39

@MrsHamlet what is this card you mentioned? I've only seen the same utterly out of date list of symptoms for testing which don't include headache so I'm intrigued if you've got a different list.

Squashed excellent news Flowers

Piggy very best of luck and hope your head improves soon Flowers

HerdyGerdy · 23/02/2021 20:41

@Piggywaspushed

You could try two 500mg painkillers + three 300mg aspirin (yep, altogether). That’s what I take (advice from neurologist). It’s drastic but usually effective. You can’t take any other painkillers for 48 hrs after and you need to eat something carby within thirty minutes.

HerdyGerdy · 23/02/2021 20:43

And piggy, break a leg tomorrow 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 20:45

This one - it's certainly more comprehensive than the three.
I assume that because we're in a trial, they need to test for a wider range of things.

chocolateisavegetable · 23/02/2021 20:51

Thanks MrsH I had the sore throat, congestion and runny nose a while back, but didn't get tested because I couldn't answer yes to fever / continuous cough / change to smell or taste. I do wish they'd update the list of symptoms. We had a child test positive after only having cold symptoms Hmm

I'm hoping that the Unison meeting tomorrow is useful. I have submitted some questions and actually managed to leave out the swearing in my question about how can we trust the government (are you proud of me Jan ?)

Medra · 23/02/2021 20:59

Had a letter from eldest’s school about testing. In big bold text there is a sentence that says ‘it is worth noting that testing is voluntary and is not a condition of returning to school’
So how many parents are going to take it up? Why even bother?

noblegiraffe · 23/02/2021 21:04

For piggy for tomorrow. Good luck!

Let’s hope heads don’t take the same approach about masks!
piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 21:06

Thanks Chris and noble!

piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 21:07

That wasn't meant to be crossed out!

I have just had a sleep so blame the confused state.

HarrietDVane · 23/02/2021 21:11

Good luck Piggy - hope the headache goes away and the interview goes well tomorrow.

piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 21:13

Thank you all.

I know I am famed for typos but I looked at notes I typed earlier to prep for my presentation and it is total gobbledegook. Oh dear. Last time, the head asked me to hand my notes in!

SmileEachDay · 23/02/2021 21:14

Good luck Piggy.

How’s your head after a sleep?

SlightlyFiendish · 23/02/2021 21:15

We were all geared up for testing twice next week and now having to do it 3 times but from the 8th has utterly scuppered the plans. We now have to plan for 6500 tests in a two site school (not walking distance between them) when tests 2 & 3 will be when the students are back and most of the people doing the testing will have jobs to do. Fortunately it's above my paygrade to sort out!

RandomGrammarPun · 23/02/2021 21:17

Why were you going to test next week when we had no idea when we might go back?
