You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Thank goodness for that squashed!!!! I think the IT guy needs to be scared in case he does it again.

RandomGrammarPun · 23/02/2021 18:50

@TheHoneyBadger

I presume it's the same technique as the pcr swabbing I've done for home testing. I've never been to a testing centre as I don't drive.

Agree with needing a mirror. Do they give you big mirrors and good light in school?

Mirrors - yes. Decent light - of course not...it's a school Grin
piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 18:54

OK, 4 day migraine.

Done ibuprofen, paracetamol, heat packs, bath.

Interview tomorrow (if I don't withdraw due to the Yips).

Am eyeing cyclizine.

I have buccastem somewhere.

Any thoughts? Tips?

Appuskidu · 23/02/2021 18:54

@phlebasconsidered

We were told today we can take our classes out for a ten minute afternoon break. This has previously been forbidden for year 5 and 6. This is my extra mitigation.
Problem solved-you’re now 100% covid-secure!

I love afternoon play-it’s the sole reason I trained as an infant teacher Grin!

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 18:57

Frozen peas, piggy
Ibuprofen and paracetamol at the same time. Get Chris to gently massage your temples.

phlebasconsidered · 23/02/2021 19:00

Just today- "I'm going to see my cousins this weekend because it's alright now"
"Who are you seeing Miss? "
"My mum says I can have a sleepover now"!

FUCK OFF

I am quite despairing about it. They've come to me so excited and I make the right noises. I'vd even given a child an arm hug today which is as close as I feel happy but i'm in with 35 in 2 weeks and it is madness, sheer madness. I cannot cope with the gaslighting!

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/02/2021 19:00

Oh shit timing piggy!!! (Could they be related?) are you a migraine person generally?
Thanks

Full fat Coca-Cola and Codeine and a small amount of alcohol is my tip. That's my emergency kit. Longer term look into preventative medicines - a small dose of amiltriptylene (can't spell it sorry) at night is effective for some - seems to have helped me.

In Egypt I used to take an ergotamine based treatment that worked pretty well - you can't get it here and I've been told they've banned it in Egypt too now so that's out unless it's prescribable.

Honestly coke and codeine is my best advice for what you can get here easily. Anecdotally it's not just me who finds full sugar coke and a little alcohol effective - there was a thread on migraines on here not long ago and several people said the same. Only logic I can think of is alcohol has a short term dilatory effect (hence it 'feeling' like it warms you up short term).

Ugh that's horrid. Not hugely helpful but A friend has just had Botox for migraines and it was awesome. She also has a smooth forehead and can't get cross.

I also saw recently that taking high doses of a b vitamin can be v effective? Can't remember which. Possibly b2?

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 19:04

Cocodamol?

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 19:04

Good luck for tomorrow!

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 19:06

@JanFebAnyMonth

Am I wrong in thinking I've read somewhere that your first LFT has to be supervised before you can then do them at home? Think that's what's in the MHRA license and how the NHS have done it?

I could be wrong though!

We watched many films of Amir Khan doing one.

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 19:07

Phleb thats shit. Everyone is going to give up now aren't they?

Rates in my LA haven't come as low as I'd have hoped for some reason.

piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 19:08

The only cocodamol I have is about 10 years old. I have migraleve but think that is old too...

I have this drawer full of drugs....! Including now banned stuff!

I took paracetamol a while back too so think migraleve and cocodamol are out.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 19:13

I agree with the caffeine suggestion. Which isn't logical but it does work

piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 19:18

I had a diet coke with ice earlier and that worked for a while . I am obsessed with ice. The last time I had so much ice was when I was pregnant . My class bought me a bag of ice as a maternity leave present!!

So I am assuming this is hormonal.

I am migraine prone, yes . My eyes keep watering too. All very annoying.

I am sure some of it is stress. I just read something about chronic migraines and I ticked all the boxes : travel sickness, poor sleep, bad stomachs and neck pain, intolerance of alcohol. Humbug.

picklespark · 23/02/2021 19:24

Feeling kind of depressed. Everything in the media and on forums, Twitter just suggests that nobody thinks our lives or health are important. If I see one more post bleating on about supermarket workers...

I’m not saying they’re not at risk, but is it the same as working without PPE, in an unventilated space, with a large group of the same 30 people for hours at a time? No it bloody well isn’t.

HarrietDVane · 23/02/2021 19:33

Sorry about your migraine @Piggywaspushed - I don't get them very often any more but Diet Coke sometimes helps me too. I think mine were hormonal as I used to get them regularly pre-children, but they all but stopped after pregnancy.

Rotten day at school - received a completely unfounded and spurious parental complaint, which I could have done without, so I'm feeling quite fed up.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 19:35

I don't want to cause alarm but one of the "must test" symptoms on my card is a headache of 48+ hours...

Appuskidu · 23/02/2021 19:36

A reason why schools shouldn’t waste valuable teaching time next week on stupid LF testing!

Gav is on GMB tomorrow with Piers Morgan.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 23/02/2021 19:48

Just had an online link through and DH is now booked in for 1st vaccine on Friday morning. Sitting here in floods.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 23/02/2021 19:52

PCR and LFT same on terms of swabbing. I found a head torch and mirror v handy. I had to go into the toilets when I did the first one at school. Nose doesn't need a mirror.

Piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 19:53

MrsH , I haven't been out. No one has...

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 23/02/2021 19:54

Is Gav going to get grilled about that Lee guy? Piers seemed to have an issue with the 'woke' head teacher today.

Good news squashedfly.
