You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Well, it was hardly 'no idea' was it - we knew that 8th March was a possibility and so had to draw up plans (knowing that they were very likely to change of course). It's too complex to not bother planning in advance.

RandomGrammarPun · 23/02/2021 21:23

I think it was a bit of a shock that secondaries were back before Easter, to be honest. Almost everyone I know thought exam years at most and definitely staggered, so plans for testing would have been very different.

But if everything else was drawn up other than the dates themselves, I suppose that's easy to replan.

Good Luck Piggy.

SlightlyFiendish · 23/02/2021 21:33

But our problem is that we anticipated doing all the testing before the students were actually being taught (test them and then immediately send them home). So you can take staff away from their normal duties without too much of an issue. Plus we were going to test on one site only. Now we need to be in two places and (at least for tests 2 and 3) with staff who need to be doing other work.
(Appreciate this is really quite dull for everyone else!)

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 21:33

Best of luck piggy - remember that you are true and wise!

TheHoneyBadger · 23/02/2021 21:35

Good luck from me too piggy.

piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 21:37

Aw shucks , thnaks.

MrsH that made me well up Smile

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/02/2021 21:38

Good luck piggy. You can do this!!!

RandomGrammarPun · 23/02/2021 21:39

It's just a nightmare all round.

I have no idea how kids are going to get into school at random times when they don't coincide with bus times.

piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 21:47

I guess the bus companies will have to be involved but not sure how.

RigaBalsam · 23/02/2021 21:50

We have staggered times the ones arriving by bus just come in early and go wait in their class rooms. Probably about 1/4 of the school population. So it works here I suppose.

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/02/2021 22:02

Thinking of you piggy.

I don't get migraines thankfully but have times when I feel light headed and icky and then only a coke will help. I always remember, it was invented as a horse draft, wasn't it?!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/02/2021 22:02

Good luck piggy

RandomGrammarPun · 23/02/2021 22:04

Schools I've worked in before have had 90% plus on buses...

Current school I think is circa 60%?

We could have a full week or a few days of outdoor activities and no academic lessons with every child able to be quickly passed through the testing centre because all on site. Like photo day. Or just reading spaced out on the field. Is there a flaw in this plan? Oh, yes, the great British weather Grin

rainingcats · 23/02/2021 22:14

@TheHoneyBadger

Really hope we can have exempt students clearly flagged on the register rather than not knowing if a kid is exempt or taking the piss but not being able to question it because of singling someone sensitive out accusations.
The students who are exempt are given a small red badge to wear! It is very discrete but is helpful as if you spotted someone not in a mask you could quickly look if they had the badge on their blazer before questioning them about it
JanFebAnyMonth · 23/02/2021 22:14

MrsH I felt betrayed when you introduced posters on another thread (granted, one of noble's!) to Bob.

He's ours!!!

Well, yours, I suppose.... Grin

Err what is that all about???

BigBobBoots · 23/02/2021 22:22

Best of luck Piggy.
DC's school (which has been ready for testing since the Christmas holidays) has said that with 3 tests it will take 3 weeks to test all pupils. So they'll all be tested just in time for Easter holidays.
As a primary teacher, I had bee envious of testing in secondary, but I don't envy anyone that headache.

9pmcouchnaps · 23/02/2021 22:26

Thanks for the welcome :) The logistics of testing a whole school full of pupils make my head spin a bit! We haven’t heard much yet, just that a plan is being formulated and we’ll hear more ASAP.

Thanks for the explanatory link. Hmmm

eitak22 · 23/02/2021 22:46

No plan here as such for what changes we'll make except the first week back has to be fun and filled with pshe activities as the children are traumatised (last time the children wanted everything back to normal and didn't want to talk about lockdown, they wanted to see their friends). Felt for the teachers yesterday who seemed really overwhelmed by everything. As a TA I just updated the displays which must be done before we're back Hmm

We're doing tests at home (primary) and I've been doing both nostrils as can't physically get anywhere near my throat without being sick.

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/02/2021 22:51

Well here goes the DfE media machine Hmm
