You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@piggywaspushed

I have unresolved issues with some stuff and cannot do LFTs in public places. I really can't. Going to cry again now.
I would feel just the same as you-don’t do it, say you’ll do them at home when that starts. Perfectly reasonable x
WarriorN · 23/02/2021 17:43

Ha lol Nobel, I'm often a wimp and it's a cursory tickle for the ten seconds. I'm mostly ok with tonsils. 🧠

Ah sorry piggy.I imagine there will be many people who feel unable to do this.

We were told it wasn't mandatory which helped a lot.

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 17:46

I'm not going anywhere near my throat with them anymore, just nose.

A couple of times I've forgotten I'm trying not to eat 30 mins before and so done two nostrils rather than the tonsils. Always seems to be tricky to fit it in on the Wednesday eve. Thurs morning; no chance!

motherrunner · 23/02/2021 17:46

I haven’t done. LFT but have been tested once for symptoms. I could stomach the tonsils (although I haven’t got any 😂 ) but hated the nose.

Saucery · 23/02/2021 17:46

Don’t do it, piggy. No one can force us to undertake them in public or private. I wouldn’t have done mine at school and would have opted out.

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 17:47

(My nose tickle has always been more than I've managed with screaming offended toddler who's never had an inconclusive I need to add!)

Beachhuts90 · 23/02/2021 17:48

Primary here, we've been doing them at home too. I really don't think I could do it at school either! I did a community LFT before our school got the kits and I found it really difficult to do it in front of people. If we were doing them in school I would probably opt out. I also need a mirror to do mine properly.

We haven't gotten very much work submitted online at all compared to before half term. It's kind of annoying. I am glad that this is my last week of home learning though. I'm with KW kids next week although all staff are to be in next week anyway.

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 17:49

I've had to do loads of the buggers thanks to nursery and the toddler and any sniffle in me starting to go to my chest.

( Which has been very good this year whenever there has been a cold and I do wonder if it's vit d?)

TheHoneyBadger · 23/02/2021 17:49

Just say no piggy! I'm going to. Haven't done one yet and haven't given consent for ds. Definitely be more Bob. If pressed say for private reasons I'm not comfortable doing it at school but happy to do it at home. Fuck pressure - it's not obligatory. You say no like you mean it and they leave you alone.

I've had a parent email saying kids will be coming back from the 8th and they'll let us know about what year groups when and how nearer to the time. Staff have been emailed a copy of the letter to parents so we know what's been said and we know no more than them.

I don't think our head would rush it and be hasty. If it was me I'd think about eg. Test year 11 Monday morning, have staffed classrooms to send them to afterwards with revision tasks set by subject teachers to do independently for the rest of the day (basically like kw provision but with revision tasks). Back in on Tuesday being taught. Same for year 13 on Tuesday with testing/supervised revision and starting lessons on Wednesday. Year 12 testing Weds start proper Thurs, Year 10 testing Thurs, proper Friday. Then whichever ks3 year group they want to prioritise on the Friday. Thursday afternoon you retest year 11, Friday afternoon year 13 and onwards.

It's going to be two weeks with a layout like that before everyone is in and has had 2 tests then third tests in class batches rather than whole year groups.

I don't see it being possible or sane to do everyone in a week.

RigaBalsam · 23/02/2021 17:59

@motherrunner

Ours is probably the same. Nobody has mentioned work exp though but they all think prom is going ahead.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 18:00

I won't be doing LFTs either.

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/02/2021 18:04

Am I wrong in thinking I've read somewhere that your first LFT has to be supervised before you can then do them at home? Think that's what's in the MHRA license and how the NHS have done it?

I could be wrong though!

RandomGrammarPun · 23/02/2021 18:07

Primary staff didn't did they? As some of them haven't been in school necessarily?

I don't blame anyone who refuses to do them school. Gagging loudly or vomiting into your mouth is not fun to do in front your colleagues. Several of my colleagues are not doing them.

starrynight19 · 23/02/2021 18:08

We just got given the box and told instructions were inside and to do at home (primary).

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 18:15

I have a box of PCR tests at home for the trial. I'm not sure I'd want to do one without having been talked through it first.

noblegiraffe · 23/02/2021 18:23

You don’t get talked through it at the drive through testing centre, just a leaflet.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/02/2021 18:23

I presume it's the same technique as the pcr swabbing I've done for home testing. I've never been to a testing centre as I don't drive.

Agree with needing a mirror. Do they give you big mirrors and good light in school?

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2021 18:30

But I'm a kinaesthetic learner 🤣
Mistressiggi · 23/02/2021 18:34

We were sent a link to a video, which like a good student I watched before the test Smile
But the second time I went to a drive through they did the test for me, and it was a lot more, shall we say, thorough Envy

ChloeDecker · 23/02/2021 18:36

Do they give you big mirrors and good light in school?

We have those stick on mirrors. They were the same ones in the public testing centre I went to last term.

They’re okay but don’t stay very ‘mirror-y’

noblegiraffe · 23/02/2021 18:38

Hang on, what happened to the squaddies?

phlebasconsidered · 23/02/2021 18:44

Primary staff were just told to shove it up whatever orifice and just get into work, is my experience.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 23/02/2021 18:46

My files are found! That was a long 22hours! Phew! Thanks for your support! Now I will do a serious tidy of them. Scared the ICT man. He's only young and I may have been a bit teacher voice and then some.

LFT have finally given me a use for the pretty make up mirror I was given years ago that had been gathering dust. We just got given a box and a leaflet and told to get on with it. I had been worried that I might not have been doing them thoroughly enough, but then I self swabbed at a PCR drive through as part of a surge testing thing and that one came back ok.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 23/02/2021 18:47

No squaddies Sad but there is always Chris! Smile

phlebasconsidered · 23/02/2021 18:48

We were told today we can take our classes out for a ten minute afternoon break. This has previously been forbidden for year 5 and 6. This is my extra mitigation.
