You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Perhaps he's working hard on the exams announcements coming shortly.

The new ofqual guy sounded pretty competent on the radio. You could almost hear his eyes roll when he said that the exams announcement would be joint with the DfE.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 21:35

They said the number one thing was masks on that thread. Which isn't true : it was rotas.

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 21:35

That Drive and Listen thing looks awesome!

chocolateisavegetable · 22/02/2021 21:35

@JanFebAnyMonth

And as someone has pointed out on another thread, we have now got what we said we wanted, ie masks in classrooms.

(I know there's a lot more we wanted to, this was a minimum wasn't it?)

In Primary?
noblegiraffe · 22/02/2021 21:35

Gav really is AWOL these days isn't he?

No, he has been very busy, haven’t you seen? All the Free Speech laws around university thing that seems to be pretty redundant and more willy waving. Interesting that the free speech crowd have a massive crossover with the Great Barrington crowd and Us4Them-type anti lockdown groups.

That’s who Gav’s mates are.

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 21:36

I'm happy about the free speech thing if it means women are allowed to talk again...

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 21:39

True no masks in primaries, I apologise!

Just spotted this gem in the Guidance
^
In exceptional circumstances, if parents or carers cannot arrange to have their child collected, if age-appropriate and safe to do so the child should walk, cycle or scoot home following a positive test result^

Oh the fun cartoonists could have with that one.

(Cos it's obviously a joke, right?)

The masks thing is an interesting one though isn't it? The BBC says some secondary schools, not all. I'm intrigued as to how that will pan out.

And primary is going back just as before! Grrrr
CarrieBlue · 22/02/2021 21:42

What happens if you don’t want your child to be tested? Are they not allowed to ever go to school again?

RubyViolet · 22/02/2021 21:43

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

Ok. Who did this?
Excellent! Feel like this whole plan is very conveniently just in time for the May local elections.

OMG - that is fantastic

I think the guidance said that children who aren't tested just come back when the rest of their year group does.

Cantaloupeisland · 22/02/2021 21:45

What is bob, what have I missed?

Good, no detriment then

Agree with you there, RandomGrammarPun.

Mrshamlet's star pupil. Am sure she'll explain.
TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 21:48

Ds won't be being tested. We'll happily do at home if/when allowed but it took him half an hour of psyching himself up to get it done last time -he's not going to be up for doing it in school. Nor am to be honest.

Haven't taken part with the lft's at all yet. Will happily do it at home myself but not in public.

Probably not. The DfE couldn’t come up with any examples where it would have applied.
TheHoneyBadger · 22/02/2021 21:51

Still a bit baffled by the lft testing - say a positive turns up on the Monday in a year 11 student, surely then everyone who was on the bus with them and was in close contact with them at school before their test needs to isolate for 10 days. Therefore they could literally potentially be in school for an hour then immediately out for 10 days as a close contact. Can you imagine?

You sound a bit like you’ve expected the government to have thought this plan through. Grin
