You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Unfortunately it isn't straightforward at all, annoyingly.

WarriorN · 22/02/2021 20:58

Oh bugger.

Because from that it looks like teachers are way above social care staff and hcps.

A friend I know who works for one nhs trust said that they specifically said home working nhs staff can't have the jab. Not office based. Only front facing staff. Which is nice. They've also seemingly included all asthma people. A Gp friend working for the same trust (they know each other) keeps telling me I'm now on the list with asthma but I checked, I'm not. Different area.

Does everyone else break up for Easter on the Wednesday of the sixth week back?

MrsHamlet · 22/02/2021 21:01

We break up on the 1st. I'm meeting my mum and sister in Budapest on the 2nd. Oh hang on... 😡

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 21:02

We break up after 5 weeks, on the 26th March.

We break up the day before Good Friday.
RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 21:08

I keep having to check if we're Maundy Thursday or the day before, the 31st.

Easter is so weird how it moves by so much and then all schools seem to take their holidays around it so inconsistently and even when you look it up each year you can never remember Confused

WarriorN · 22/02/2021 21:08

Oh yes that's another arse ache.

My LEA has different dates to my children's. Dh took a gamble and tried to book a hol for the one week we are all off; it didn't work out. If my lea's dates had matched my kids' it would have been the week you are allowed to go and stay in self catering.

Very much a First world issue but I'm pissed off! At least I won't have them both with nowhere much to go for two full weeks on my own though. This last week as been a tad tricky. And so fucking muddy!

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 21:13

Eurgh...that's rubbish.

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 21:13

I thought thebguidance says secondaries have one week's leeway for testing?

RigaBalsam · 22/02/2021 21:14

Yes and have to prioritise y10 and above.
RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 21:16

Yes, because they're allowed in fully after the first test. So, a phased return for test one, then two more tests 3-5 apart but those will be fitted in within normal days.

Cantaloupeisland · 22/02/2021 21:17

Our last day is maundy Thursday. Keep seeing posts saying holidays start on the 29th so kids only in three weeks but that's not the case!

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 21:17

I am struggling with all these parents who say their children are so excited to go back to school. Perhaps these are all primary age? although they allege not. My very studious DS just kind of went 'oh right'.

Monkeytennis97 · 22/02/2021 21:18

@WarriorN thank you! DS is getting his vaccine this weekend Smile

Yup-mine are not happy! Being at home suits them!
MrsHamlet · 22/02/2021 21:19

Bob will be gleeful. He'll be there tomorrow, waiting.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 21:19

My school is almost entirely year 10 and above. So we prioritise the whole school..I just can't visualise how it'll happen.

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 21:21

So we set up a mass testing centre on the first day of term in our largest building. Then moved it all to a smaller space when we went into lockdown. Now, presumably we'll have to move it again to be able to test the whole school, for two weeks. Then close it for good. Seems like a good use of SLT/admin staff's time Hmm

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 21:22

Something to bring a smile to your face, especially if you're primary!

Now that's what I call being a Primary School Teacher! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_staffroom/4172632-Now-thats-what-I-call-being-a-Primary-School-Teacher

Can't imagine how that could happen, not when the DfE have had a clear plan all the way along @RandomGrammarPun !

Oh wait...

NB Gav really is AWOL these days isn't he?

Perhaps he's working hard on the exams announcements coming shortly.

[[https://driveandlisten.herokuapp.com/]{

Look at this cool website! You choose a city and it drives through it with the local radio station on.

It’s fun but also I think brilliant for story writing/cultural capital etc

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 21:28

Is it ridiculous how grateful for small mercies we are?

I mean, the guidance was actually ready to go this time. I would never have imagined this could have been possible.

Maybe someone at the DfE has gone rogue and just had it ready to go themselves ( a civil servant, obviously, not a politician).

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 21:32

And as someone has pointed out on another thread, we have now got what we said we wanted, ie masks in classrooms.

(I know there's a lot more we wanted to, this was a minimum wasn't it?)
