You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@HerdyGerdy

Schools are safe. Vanishingly small risk to students according to BoJo.

WHAT ABOUT TEACHING STAFF?

And the parents the children go home to.
HarrietDVane · 22/02/2021 19:42

No! I don't need to hear how hard the NQT year is

@namechangedyetagain I didn't find it to be worse than my PGCE year, if that helps...? Grin

year5teacher · 22/02/2021 19:42

@GravityFalls @namechangedyetagain @HarrietDVane you are so kind Flowers thank you! Yes, I only had September - March on placement. It helped that I had several years as a TA before training, but still!
I’m getting really good feedback and I know I’m doing well but last term it felt like it could be anything that caused the whole house of cards to come down. We will get through this!

year5teacher · 22/02/2021 19:43

And @namechangedyetagain so far it’s better than the PGCE because I don’t have mentors telling me to teach lessons exactly like them, no weekly observations and people poring over your plans. We don’t even do evidence folders in my school! Lots more freedom. More responsibility, yes, but I like it a lot more! (Usually...)

School Q on briefing to Whitty.

Says it is not true that he was opposed to Big Bang.

Funny how other SAGE members don't agree with him and are happy to say so.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 19:48

CW doesn't seem to know about the new ONS data out today about occupational risk!! He just said we were at less risk. Fucker.

Why does nobody ever question this? Angry
HarrietDVane · 22/02/2021 19:52

Today is the gift that just keeps giving. Oven has just packed up halfway through cooking my evening meal. Fml. Why couldn't it do this last week when it was half term? Angry

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/02/2021 19:56

Oh fuck. Just clicked onto the BBC news website and there's a huge headline with a 'we're on a one way road to freedom' quote from Boris. That can't be good news. It's got more than a hint of it'll all be over in 12 weeks/by Christmas/Easter to it.

I think I preferred the more sombre, cautious seeming version from the last few weeks. There was at least some sense of going in the right direction, not that we were about to do something mad.

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 20:00

Did people hear the answer to the journalist's question about what data will you want to see so you can decide to end students wearing masks?

I didn't understand it at all!

heatherpot · 22/02/2021 20:01

Yet he's still being congratulated for being cautious! Evan Davis was practically giddy on PM - 'I'm saying good luck to everyone tonight tee hee!' Knob.

I thought that he looked like he was shaking and absolutely shutting himself when talking about schools and staff- like he didn't believe a word of what he was saying.
noblegiraffe · 22/02/2021 20:12

I don't get stage 3 at all:

No earlier than 17 May:
People can meet in groups of up to 30 outdoors
Six people or two households can meet indoors
Up to 30 people can meet to celebrate weddings or other life events, like christenings
Performances and large events can resume, with some limits. For indoor events they can be at half capacity or 1,000 people, and outdoors they can be at half capacity or 4,000 people - whichever is lower. For large venues (at least 40,000 capacity) up to 10,000 will be allowed to attend

So only two households can meet up indoors, or 30 for a wedding but you can have an indoor event for 1000 people? Confused

I've not watched the briefing, so was this explained?

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/02/2021 20:17

Presumably it's the difference between organised, controlled events, and 'do what you like with yer mates' events?

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 20:18

I guess it is based on capacity - eg the O2 can only have 1000

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 20:19

Boris also patiently explained that irreversible doesn't mean things can't be reversed...

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 20:19

We are back to literally no one acres about teachers!

Still that data might be good for a plop or two on a thread.

Appuskidu · 22/02/2021 20:22

Is it back to the rules of last summer where you can’t meet up with friends or family inside unless there’s a till?!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/02/2021 20:24

I'm dumping a screen shot jpg of that data all over Twitter tonight in response to just about any mention of teachers.

Do you have link for that?
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/02/2021 20:27

I'm just browsing the guidance now noble. I guess it's a distancing thing. Anywhere with 1000 people is going to be less than 50% capacity, so should probably be spaced out. Whereas while people are supposed to social distance when they meet indoors, I doubt many bother. Probably more of an economic thing as well. It does say in the guidance that they may be able to allow more people to meet socially indoors at this stage.

Now in two minds about whether to buy my Fascinating Aida tickets or not though.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/02/2021 20:30

I'm intrigued by 'most significant life events' having a limit of 30 in stage 3. What doesn't count?
