You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Just watching a doctor on BBC news saying that teachers have done the “bulk of the work enabling HCPs to keep going in to work”, as schools “have never closed” and been teaching throughout.
This was in direct response to Louise Minchin asking her what she would recommend telling a child nervous about going back to school “when they re-opnen”
Nice to hear that sometimes!

SmileEachDay · 22/02/2021 06:47

Has this been confirmed by government? How fucking dare they do this by leaking to the press. Utter wankers.

ChloeDecker · 22/02/2021 06:50

Now watching Dr Hillary on GMB and he is also talking about the need to exercise caution still and made the very good point that everyone is talking about deaths being reduced by the vaccination programme (which is great!) but hospitals are still full of very sick people who have a real danger of being affected by long Covid and that they can’t be forgotten about. Therefore, the need to still SD, wear masks and stay in ventilated areas is still important.

Yes, except in schools and colleges...

Timeturnerplease · 22/02/2021 06:50

I went to bed early last night like a good girl. Can’t help with booze finishing thanks to bun in oven, but hope you’ve drained them in prep for today!

Am in with KW kids today, and have a very irritating wheezy cough. LF test negative last night. Me, being a sensible human, will message my HT and ask her what she wants me to do. I wonder how many parents would say sod it and send their kids in regardless?

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 07:04

You're supposed to get an actual proper test if you have symptoms, Timeturner.

Bollocking bollocks.

Atmosphere in school is going to be weird today before we officially know anything.

Re rates - they're about the same as they were at October half term. Those next seven weeks went well, didn't they? We hadn't any cases in first half term then "bang" - and that was before we got new variant. Hmm

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 07:13

No sleep last night.

If I hear one more time the word 'easing' I will explode. 10m people is not easing.

And if I read 'all the vulnerable have been vaccinated' one more time I will lose the fucking plot.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 07:14

I wish one MP one would come out and say that this is bloody reckless and stupid.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 07:15

And my fridge freezer is broken.

MrsHamlet · 22/02/2021 07:15

Can a physicist please explain the actual Big Bang to me? The term is giving me the ick and I don't know why.

RigaBalsam · 22/02/2021 07:24

@MrsHamlet

Quite hoping it doesn't end with the big crunch.
HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 22/02/2021 07:25

I'm so angry this morning. How does anyone (apart from Boris) think this is a good idea. Rates where they were in October is a bloody scary thought!!

BigBobBoots · 22/02/2021 07:31

I am resigned to 'all in' on 8th March. Just hoping that doesn't result in too many children isolating over Easter holidays when they finally get some freedom back.

I know. What a colossal eejit he is. [Angry Sad
piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 07:35

I really have had enough. Full day, meeting, shite on the news. My area remains in the top 20 for infections and probably in the bottom 20 for vaccine rollout. DH hasn't been vaccinated, he can't play golf (waves at tutters) , DS2 looks like a caveman but remains blessedly stoical , DS1 can't have any face to face uni lectures (oh no! DANGER!) or leave his student house other than to buy food. He is fat and unfit and frustrated. My 80 year old DM in US can't get a vaccine.

I am constantly putting myself last in my family and now I am expected to put myself last in society too.

HarrietDVane · 22/02/2021 07:38

No sleep here either. Still, time to paint on a happy face for my class, whose parents no doubt think everything is just fine and dandy, just as they have throughout this entire cursed episode.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 07:38

Vaccine minister has just said schools are going back because it is '3 weeks after all the over 50s will have had a vaccine'.

He had to correct himself but only after Louise Minchin picked him up on it. he said it TWICE. He is the vaccine minister!!

It is no wonder people on MN think everyone vulnerable has been done.

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 07:41

Dick head.

He just said "all our efforts" are going into opening schools.

You have done. Nothing. Zero. Big fat nada to change anything.

So fucking angry they've pre-empted the proper announcement again.

SmileEachDay · 22/02/2021 07:41

I heard someone on the radio last night saying that teachers were “at lower risk than the rest of society”

Didn’t catch who it was.

I’m almost as angry as it being leaked to the press as I am about the stupidity of the “policy”.

Still. Let’s wait to see the science they’re relying on.

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 07:42

Bloody fucking useless tests. That's it.

eitak22 · 22/02/2021 07:43

FFS!

I'm tempted to write a letter to both boris and Keir not that'll do anything as they don't give a shit. Might start a petition for mps to have bi-weekly testing and no bubble isolating and no social distancing see how safe they feel. I'm not even on a 1/4 of their wage and I'm at 4 times more risk (it feels like)

ChloeDecker · 22/02/2021 07:44

Ah. And there we have it. Not following the science anymore. Following what businesses want. Exactly what noble has been pointing out regarding certain group’s motives.

Details come as business chiefs last night urged Mr Johnson to ‘be bold’ in plans

RandomGrammarPun · 22/02/2021 07:46

Anyone else think their school is going to have a real issue staffing reopening with all the extra shielders added? We've got a hell of a lot added last week.

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 07:48

What has had them added random? I reckon our diabetic Dep Head will be in.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 22/02/2021 08:02

Well, what a fabulous start to term. Still in pain, rattling with the amount of pills I'm taking, can't even drink, Johnson fucking up schools again and have just opened my emails to what looks like a parental complaint. Do I punch my desk or cry?

motherrunner · 22/02/2021 08:08

Seems it’s being confirmed everywhere. Apart from Boris himself, the cowardly weasel.
