You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Threads that are started afresh are met with mean-girl phrases like, "Not you again," or "I knew this would be you."
How can that be acceptable?

Appuskidu · 21/02/2021 20:29

@EnemyOfEducationNo1

If you're interested in counselling I can recommend researching into a play therapy masters. I looked into it but then decided that actually I wouldn't be very good at it - being more of a nerdy than "fun" type
Interesting-is it expensive?

We had a trainee play therapist last year but she was bloody awful-the children that were allocated to be with her ran rings around her. Tbh, we only did it because it was freeBlush. She wasn’t a teacher and didn’t have a degree though.

being targetted by t4u ot u4t whatever. It will be the same people but with lots of name changing, I guess.

Just thinking, I mean I get that we might decide to take slightly more risks with schools than in other areas because so many functions of school can't really be done remotely.

But the size of the difference between (eg) being able to meet with one other household outside in 6 weeks, and spending 6 hours in a small room with 30 other people is VAST.

Remember climbdad's threads in the summer?

Yes he had some good points but was hounded with similar comments.

I reported someone on a thread earlier and asked if they were a PBP as they were being so offensive to a well-known poster. The reply I got said that they weren’t a PBP and were in fact a very long-established poster.

Just with a very shiny new name, I suppose.

Exactly. Totally unacceptable.

@Appuskidu - about £9000 for a one year taught masters. So not as expensive as an ed psych cmor counselling conversion!

noblegiraffe · 21/02/2021 20:45

Not wanting to associate a regular username with being a bellend is so cowardly isn't it? Assuming that's what they've done.

Should probably ignore any posters with a posting history of less than a week.

Appuskidu · 21/02/2021 20:46

@EnemyOfEducationNo1 hmmm, interesting but I don’t think I want to do it £9000 worth!

Counselling interests me more, but that seemed to be such a long expensive process.

I would consider losing the holidays and going to work for the LA-in my (possibly limited) recent experience, they seem to do fuck all.

noblegiraffe · 21/02/2021 20:46

I think there'll be quite a few glasses of Prosecco lined up at the bar .... or, on a picnic rug, when we have our party on the hill.

If I drink enough, I might even talk Wink

noblegiraffe · 21/02/2021 20:48

I've got a friend who works as a consultant for a large academy chain. Well paid and he gets the holidays.

Yep, and it also makes you wonder which of the previous posters we’ve wasted hours debating with before, it is this time!
EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 21/02/2021 20:49

What sort of consultant?
I want to look into VLEs for companies and colleges and the like

Problem is that some of these names have a reasonable history length and are alt names for when posters want to be a dick.

SmileEachDay · 21/02/2021 20:52

I don’t think it matters who it is. I can’t stand bullies - it’s the one thing guaranteed to make me lose my temper at work. Like properly angry not the fake bossing a class around cross.

chocolateisavegetable · 21/02/2021 20:53

For those of you wanting to move, but unsure about giving up the holidays - DH works for a large private company where they get 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays, and you can purchase additional holiday. Running in-house training for a big corporate could be of interest to some. Assessing apprenticeships for a training provider (e.g. assessing the Supporting Teaching & Learning course) could be an option, but I don't think the pay is great.

noblegiraffe · 21/02/2021 20:53

Science consultant, Enemy, working across schools, supporting teachers, setting up the curriculum etc. Does a bit of teaching too.

He used to do the same role for the LA before they all got cut.

noblegiraffe · 21/02/2021 20:59

Herc, if you want out, why not contact Mark McCourt of Complete Maths - he's always looking for resource creators and your Desmos stuff was ace.

I had a mate who did work for him, it paid really well.

Oooh interesting! I don't suppose he gives out career advice as well? Grinp

How many Republic threads do you reckon we're going to fill in record time over the next day or two, once Boris's Big Bang is announced?

I have pre-empted the verdict by ordering some new work clothes online in the next size up! Blush

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 21/02/2021 21:29

I went bought fatter work clothes today as well....

chocolateisavegetable · 21/02/2021 21:30

If we're moving to a new republic tomorrow, I'm going to need a hand moving all this booze ...
