You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@MrsHamlet Ring your GP. DH has seen his GP face to face over the past few months.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/02/2021 08:37

Hello @motherrunner btw, glad you are back. You teach somewhere near where I went to school and where my parents still live.

Cantaloupeisland · 18/02/2021 08:37

I can't believe they want everyone back in one go. Our head said the other day he couldn't see how all years could return as we're in a worse place numbers and variant-wise than we were last June when a quarter of year 10 were allowed in per day. Should have known it'll be bloody business as usual. Dreading the DfE/twats4themselves/DM propaganda joy that's coming!

motherrunner · 18/02/2021 08:40

@SquashedFlyBiscuits You originally from Wolves? I’m actually a Brummie. There’s a BIG difference in those 15 miles, although anyone outside of the West Midlands think we all sound the same 😆

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2021 08:41

Morning all!

I too cannot believe any lessons have not been learnt from last term. I desperately don’t want to go back to working from home but I am so disappointed that the message in the media is that it will be back to ‘normal’ from the get go and why they can’t see that this may mean more self isolation and more schools having to close to year groups, i.e back to working from home Sad

Although my kid has not been in school, I’ve still had the text messages when positive cases have happened and in the last 6 weeks, they had nursery out, year 1 and year 5.
Covid is still there. It’s not gone away.
Why oh why we can’t have decent funding and official proper guidance to reduce how much this happens I don’t know.

echt · 18/02/2021 08:44

You poor thing, MrsHamlet, the fact that it's moving sounds grim. My own first day of remote teaching bad back vanished after some heavy gardening. I recommend pruning trees with a bowsaw, then sawing up the branches for firewood.🪵🪚 That is not a bowsaw but you know what I mean.Smile

I hope you get that appointment soon.

Cantaloupeisland · 18/02/2021 08:45

But they don't care if schools are having huge numbers isolating/year group closures do they? As soon as schools are 'open' you won't hear a peep in the media so most people will assume it's all fine!

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2021 08:46

I’m planning on doing some gardening today echt!
Get my flower beds ready to scatter some wildflower seeds in about a months time and grow some more tomatoes, carrots and strawberries. Something to look forward to.
Cannot wait!

HarrietDVane · 18/02/2021 08:46

Thanks for the new thread!

Oh, the sickening propaganda! Schools are no safer now than they were in January in my area. I haven't looked at the heat map of cases this week but we were still deep purple last week (and black before that) - largely because a lot of people here are taking no notice of lockdown or social distancing.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/02/2021 08:47

@motherrunner I went to school in Wolves from the age of 13 but parents live a few miles north on the a449.

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2021 08:48

To true @Cantaloupeisland Angry

MrsHamlet · 18/02/2021 08:48

I'm on hold. I'm not sure I could grip a saw (not least because it's my left hand...)
There's definitely something wrong. My elbow and wrist hurt, and I've got shooting pains down my arm when I move.

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2021 08:49

Could be a trapped nerve MrsH. Hope you get through soon. It needs seeing to. Flowers

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/02/2021 08:52

@MrsHamlet hope you get through soon and get sorted.

HarrietDVane · 18/02/2021 08:56

Hope you get through soon, @MrsHamlet - that sounds horrible.

MrsHerculePoirot · 18/02/2021 08:59

@MrsHamlet good luck - I’ve been in a few times for diabetic stuff so they are seeing people they need to.

Do you all really think they’ll send everyone back on the 8th? Not stagger it like Scotland then?

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 09:00

Where are you getting that the return to secondary won’t be staggered? Can’t see an announcement.

Hope you get an appointment soon MrsH

Monkeytennis97 · 18/02/2021 09:11

@noblegiraffe it was in DT that two weeks would be given (only) for secondaries to get the LFTs done.

MrsHamlet · 18/02/2021 09:17

Telephone consultation this afternoon between 2 and 6!!
I want my mum!!!!!

noblegiraffe · 18/02/2021 09:20

Thing is those right wing papers might not be reporting that those are the plans but putting pressure on Boris for those to be the plans.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 18/02/2021 09:21

Oh MrsH sounds horrible. Sounds like a trapped nerve - I can recommend trying some yoga stretches if you can manage it?

Cantaloupeisland · 18/02/2021 09:22

No announcement noble but every paper running the story that gov will allow secondaries to stagger year groups only to get the initial lf test done then they'll all be back- so maybe 2 weeks at most for a large secondary. Nothing like the year 10 only return last June

MrsHamlet · 18/02/2021 09:23

I'll try anything! None of the painkillers in the house have touched it so I'm going to have to walk into town (because there is no way I can drive) to get sone good stuff.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 18/02/2021 09:24

Is this all because of the "schools don't drive infection" "no surge in cases following schools reopening anywhere in the world" and "no evidence that schools contribute to community cases" research??

motherrunner · 18/02/2021 09:25

Hot water bottle @MrsHamlet? 😢
