You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@JanFebAnyMonth

JMcV was so gorgeous in Shameless that I forgave his lack of height! As did Ann Marie Duff.
Was quite sad when they got divorced!
Timeturnerplease · 16/02/2021 19:39

@Appuskidu 100% tv Jamie - only because of the nudity. He is scorching in a kilt. Not so much in real life, sadly.

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 19:39

Before Chris Hemsworth, there was Michael

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I frequently use horrible histories videos as, if we get the work done treats with year 7. The magma carts rap was the biggest hit last term.

I will be forever single now because when I look at men my own age I have an involuntary ew it'd be like shagging someone's dad. I have mirrors so I don't know why I'm forever in my 20s in my mind.

@ChloeDecker

Oh no, I was devastated Ducky lost out to that wet drip Andrew McCarthy way back when!
Ducky was meant to end up with Molly Ringwald and be played by Robert Downey Jr.

No way!? Mind blown. Although, yeah, now you say it, ‘Weird Science’ Robert Downey Jr was very Ducky-like!

I finished the living room and the hoover has made it to the middle of the kitchen btw.

Solid progress.

Amused at the idea of this thread being derail-able. Who was here with me for the late night heckler and the lurker teacher coming in to fight them? That may be one of my staff room highlights

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 16/02/2021 19:52

My medication must be messing with my head... I read "strapping men in historical costume" and my first thought was "Brian Blessed in Blackadder" 😂 🤣 😂

Read about it in Ready Player Two over Christmas, Chloe. Never seen the film so can’t comment!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 16/02/2021 20:03

If anyone wants a gentle book, Leonard and Hungry Paul is good. Gentle story, well written and just nice.

Furloughed DH was supposed to have been cleaning during term time.... This hasn't happened.

Piggywaspushed · 16/02/2021 20:06

I never watched Shameless. I am more of an Atonement McAvoy.

I grew up in the same postcode as him (me, James, Susan Calman). Unfortunately, I never knowingly encountered him.He went to the Catholic school.

HarrietDVane · 16/02/2021 20:07

Ohh I remember North and South! I loved it Blush I fear it probably wasn't as good as I think it was.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/02/2021 20:12

Oooh @chocolateisavegetable I’m about to read Thursday Murder Club - did you like it?

Today I read a whole book, actual real book in one day - haven’t done that for years! Loved it! Sophie Hannah ‘Did you see Melody?’. I got on to her Poirots and that led to this one...

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 20:15

MrsHP I did like it. Absolutely loved most of it, felt the end was a bit rushed - but I think that might have just been because I was so exhausted before half term. I wish I'd read it this week instead!

Game of Thrones is my reading material over this lockdown. It’s probably the third time I’ll have read the complete series this century. It’s quite good to come back to books every ten years or so because you re-read them as a different person so pick up bits you may have missed before. This time I’m skipping all the Daenerys bits because frankly, she’s tedious and gets in the way of the story. Other than that, I’m struck by how clever the writing is. When I first read the books, I thought it was mediocre.
Having spent my youth reading the classics, as I age I tend to lean towards trash.

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 20:21

Joseph Fiennes when he played Edward II at The Crucible. Both of my A level Lit groups have this as their teams picture :)

Obviously this is entirely educational - Ben Crystal doing Shakespeare in Original Pronunciation.

He could read me the phone book.

It's such a shame he's been unable to write the next blumming book. I have to resist being cross with him. I'm sure he would've preferred not to have gotten stuck.
noblegiraffe · 16/02/2021 20:27

Oh I saw Joseph Fiennes play Edward II.

I think I only saw it because he was in it. Had forgotten the red hot poker bit of history. Shock

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 20:29

He was brilliant. Sadly they didn't bloody film it - the only film version I've ever found is the Jarman which starts with an orgy!

Frlrlrubert · 16/02/2021 20:37

@JanFebAnyMonth

James McAvoy piggy, yessss. Shameless anyone?
We still need that 'like' button...
noblegiraffe · 16/02/2021 20:51

Jan would prefer a 'Phwoar' button.

This thread needs one, that's for sure.

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 20:53

At least we're staying on message..

Appuskidu · 16/02/2021 20:55

I feel that we are only one step away from here to discussing our laminated list of 5 (a la Friends!).

Makes a nice change from thinking about teaching, to be honest!
