You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I'm literally about to google what to do with cucumber seeds.
Bin them. Nasty indigestion-inducing green buggers. I don't know what's in them but they give me terrible tummy ache.

noblegiraffe · 16/02/2021 16:24

No to cucumbers, they give me tummy-ache from the person who said yes to shrimp paste and green mango pickle.

Mistressiggi · 16/02/2021 16:25

I'm off to have a wee look at what UFT is saying about the news in Scotland... if I'm not back soon come and rescue me

noblegiraffe · 16/02/2021 16:26

@SmileEachDay

Ah go on noble
Your username makes out you're all like 😃 but actually you're really 😈

🤣 I'm allergic to melon. It must be the pointless water content.
GuyFawkesDay · 16/02/2021 16:30

Annual wildflower seeds go in march/April. Weed the ground, work it with take and sprinkle seed on but you'll need to possibly net it to keep birds off until they seeds are going.

I am very slow on seed starting this year but Tbh my garden is probably a bit full anyway. And I bought more perennials from Sarah Raven so I'm hanging on for summer basket season now.

My house is a tip but I'm not really caring. Off to watches starling murmuration at 5 ISH then pancakes!

SmileEachDay · 16/02/2021 16:41

Ooh thanks Guy

  • I want to do them on my front scruffy patch which currently has very deteriorated weed blocking membrane (technical term) and poor quality soil. There are lots of buttercups and periwinkle already....If I sprinkle seeds and then thin layer of soil will that work?
SmileEachDay · 16/02/2021 16:42

I think Y10 would agree.

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 16:46

@noblegiraffe

I am going to tidy the house. The house needs tidying. Tidy house.

If you see a thread from me before tomorrow I am in BIG TROUBLE.

Do we need a signal when you start a thread? Not a bat signal obviously - but a giraffe signal?
EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 16/02/2021 16:48

Apparently there's a daffodil klaxon so no need for giraffe signals

GuyFawkesDay · 16/02/2021 16:54

@SmileEachDay should do. The birds are your worst enemy. Web of string with old CDs/DVD hanging on string nearby often puts them off. Netting they can get caught in, it's not ideal.

I'm currently writing emails to the power network. I live next to a tiny electricity box thing. The land in front is left to weeds and on the past they strimmer it but last year just dumped weedkiller. It's now bare earth. Under the soil is concrete.

I'm hoping they let me adopt it and wildflower it over, and obviously they'll still have access. Am going to ask the parish council for a grant(?) For some wildflower turf to go down.

I might try some seeds as it's bare mud at the moment but the weeds are sprouting. If I keep on top of them for a few weeks....who knows?!

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 16:54

Ah yes, of course Evil

contemplates a Chris Hemsworth signal

LilyMumsnet · 16/02/2021 16:56

Hi folks

Can we please be careful not to discuss other posters/threads? It derails this one and is unlikely to end well. Thanks!

Appuskidu · 16/02/2021 17:07

What happened there, then?!

Does HQ read through all our threads or are there others on here reading all our threads about Chris Hemsworth and chairs just to see if another thread is mentioned?

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 17:07

It's all kicking off on the residents's Facebook group here smile because the council have announced they're not going to mow the verges this year. They've apparently sowed wild flowers. I've got a wild flower patch in the garden but the whole planting is to attract birds and bees. I love it when they're all buzzing round and I'm hammocking with a gin

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 17:09

I think Lily wanted to see Chris and boot boy...

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 16/02/2021 17:11

People like to report us over here Hmm

I haven't ventured out from the staffroom today. Seems like a wise decision.

chocolateisavegetable · 16/02/2021 17:11

Lily messaged received and understood, but if you ban discussion of Chris Hemsworth, I will have to cancel Wink

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/02/2021 17:15

LOL at derailing this thread though.

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 17:16

Do we need thread objectives?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/02/2021 17:21

Sounds like it, MrsH

I mean it’s important not to derail the discussion if Chris Hemsworth.

OpheliasCrayon · 16/02/2021 17:21

@MrsHamlet

Do we need thread objectives?
WALT: understand when we can and cannot derail a thread according to MN

What A Goady One Looks Like.

I just had a lovely Nan Nap after plucking my eyebrows and reading on my bed. It was like being a teenager again.

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 17:26

Just maintaining the integrity of the thread....

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/02/2021 17:26

Sorry if it was me, I know I've mentioned other threads a few times. But no specific posters, we've all been very careful I thought. Do you think we should ask lily/MNHQ what they meant??
