You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Hello - just place marking. Hope you're all ok - I have catching up to do but my anxiety is through the roof so I'm lying low for now.

TrashedWarrior · 26/01/2021 18:12

I think it's good what the neu have announced.

The Daily mail and U4T with all their whining could have done something like that. But no. They only care about Florence's ballet classes.

PumpkinPie2016 · 26/01/2021 18:12

@namechangedyetagain chin up - it happens to us all Flowers my Y10 lesson on Friday was a complete car crash because the visualiser wouldn't work!

I'm shattered this week and it's only Tuesday! Loads to do and I am finding it nigh on impossible to plan ahead because obviously, we have no clue what is happening in secondary schools (or primary!) After half term.

It's little things like do I convert the assessment scheduled for after half term into forms in case we are still remote. It will take me an hour to do and I don't have an hour to wasteSad Then again, if I don't convert it now and we are still remote, it will be a rushSad

To top it off, my KS3 co-ordinator had a snap at me today about something SLT have asked for Sad it's very unusual for him to do that and I know it's not personal but I felt a bit crap.

Hoping tomorrow is better Confused

chocolateisavegetable · 26/01/2021 18:13

MrsH I think you did the right thing

SansaSnark · 26/01/2021 18:16

Sorry, that should say vaccines not vouchers- I was listening to the call at the same time!

JanuaryChill · 26/01/2021 18:16

NEU partnering with DMirror and Viking to get essential paper etc to deprived primary pupils.

Good because they're doing something.

Bad because why hasn't govt done it and union badgers will say they're wanting to prolong school closure.....

JanuaryChill · 26/01/2021 18:17

🦡 should be badgers of course......

JanuaryChill · 26/01/2021 18:17

Aargh autocorrect, badgers

JanuaryChill · 26/01/2021 18:17

Might have known who'd have the perfect illustration!

namechangedyetagain · 26/01/2021 18:24

@MrsHamlet no judgement here you sound a lovely friend.

In other news, I'm staying in my school until the course ends. So happy about that. I just need to be good enough to pass, get the QTS, get the PGCE and then to get a job!

Hoping tonight I will sleep and not be woken up by odd dreams about being chucked off the course, interviews and lesson plans!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 26/01/2021 18:29

MrsH no judgement here either. Sometimes common sense comes above "rules".

I hope your friend is OK.

MrsHamlet · 26/01/2021 18:29

I know she'd have done the same for me. She lives with her husband but he doesn't know how poorly she is.

noblegiraffe · 26/01/2021 18:30

Boxer has gone a bit far now.

Just remembered that Boxer did a load of lessons for Oak Academy so might be a bit pissed off at a 'celeb' suggesting the government should have asked him instead.

JanuaryChill · 26/01/2021 18:32

Kate Green has joined the NEU call.

Piggywaspushed · 26/01/2021 18:32

mistress , Rosen was not remotely, not even remotely, criticising teachers...

noblegiraffe · 26/01/2021 18:35

MrsH essential visit for care purposes. Unless you had an illegal rave with your cup of tea...

Cantaloupeisland · 26/01/2021 18:39

Lots of comments on neu Facebook page unhappy with that announcement. Agree it's a good thing but why is it up to unions to do what the government should be doing? Also what happens if schools go back sooner rather than later - it's a lot of money and resources to channel into home learning which might not last that long anyway- especially if this is supposedly the 'last lockdown'!

SansaSnark · 26/01/2021 18:44

It's PR, isn't it. If we end up having to strike or whatever, no-one can say "oh, they don't care about the children".

I think it's a really savvy political move.

And let's face it, buying kids in poverty some stationery or art resources is hardly wasted money when they do come back to school! I mean, I'm sure we've all given/bought students stationery before?

WhenSheWasBad · 26/01/2021 18:46

Quite a few of the kids I’m teaching online say they have no paper. Secondary though.

starrynight19 · 26/01/2021 18:52

Good for the NEU we have had to supply lots of children with basic stationary.

Cracklefraggle · 26/01/2021 18:56

@MrsHamlet

I did a bad thing. I went to a friend's house and went in and had a cup of tea. We teach together and I'm really really really worried about her mental health. I know it's not allowed but I am so worried. I've been nowhere. She's been nowhere. It felt like the right thing to do.
I would say that was a good thing you did Flowers
RandomGrammarPun · 26/01/2021 18:56

Totally not unusual for us to buy supplies/reading books/pencil crayons/pocket tissues/food/money for clubs/bus money for kids at school at all in normal times (as in out of teachers' personal money, not school funds).
