You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@lonelyplanet

Yes but that argument is rubbish because I'm sure there are a similar number of secondary children with key worker parents, but the rates in this age group are going down. I always regret going on the data thread, although follow it avidly, because they hate school discussions and are really not impartial.
I rarely post on there though I follow it. I like it when it descends into discussion and gets quite human, then someone remembers it’s a data thread and they get a bit po-faced and post some graphs or a link to a very serious peer reviewed paper on something a bit obscure.

She's y11.

lonelyplanet · 29/01/2021 21:40

Sorry borntobequiet I was responding to January's comments about another thread. But I'll leave you to it if it upsets you. Its not a data thread its a staffroom thread with discussion about schools. Not great at small talk but came for solace and support.

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 21:59

Lonely, born was commenting on the posters on the Data thread, not on this thread (HTH, and that is haven't created further confusion!)

Hmm another reason perhaps why we shouldn't talk about other threads on here!

The whole staff at Ackley Bridge are rubbish, apart from the secretary or whatever she's supposed to be (I think the makers have see a secondary school in a primary for some strange reason!) who is ace.

starrynight19 · 29/01/2021 22:12

Struggling to keep up but my dd love Ackley Bridge.
Anyone with older kids ? Mine are all for killing one another. Doesn’t help ds desperate to go back to uni. But wow I don’t think I can do another meal / argument round the table. Teens are so unforgiving. Too much time together.

MrsHamlet · 29/01/2021 22:13

I teach 2 lots of year 11, and their hoy is bloody useless. But if you contacted me I would absolutely make different arrangements for your daughter.

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 22:22

Yeah @starrynight19, meals can be such joyful times can't they?? I think my kids liked each other a year ago....

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 22:24

Anyone old enough to remember the 70s and in need of a bit of happiness this evening, come and join monkey and me on the weird 70s craft kits threads, it's fan-dabby-dozy! 😂

RandomGrammarPun · 29/01/2021 22:27

Link, January?

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 22:30

Of course random, be prepared to be made happily nostalgic:

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 22:38

It made me so happy I even sent a link to my sister!

I'm not very close to her and doubt she'd stick around on MN - she's not the "right demographic" - but have just realised I might need to change my username just in case, ie at least one of my reminisces of childhood craft kits on there will out me to her, I think!

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 22:46

*reminiscences, even. What a hard word to spell....

Monkeytennis97 · 29/01/2021 22:53

It's warm and fuzzy over there isn't it @JanuaryChill Smile Such lovely memories

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 22:55

So very happy-making, yes.

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 23:13

And then I got this on Fb - I am literally 🤣😂at these:

TheHoneyBadger · 29/01/2021 23:33

I talked to hod about year 11 today. They missed the summer mocks when they were in year 10 due to lockdown then this year they were due in January and missed again. Some schools have done remote mocks apparently but how could they be at all reliable when they've got books and internet right there. It's going to be incredibly hard to get any reliable data.

I'd hope the school would be able to do some in school assessments DrM and I'd be advising her to work with exam board revision guides and preparing as best she can.

I'd also email the head and forward her any emails you still have of comms with pastoral and explain they were never passed on to teachers and how worried you are that it's meant she didn't get the support and accommodations she needed and that has led to her falling further behind etc. Ask if some assessments can be set for her to make up for those she's missed? It's an issue that the school have messed up on and hopefully they'll want to make up for it.

See if you've still got the emails

What subjects is she doing? Maybe we could help?

JanuaryChill · 29/01/2021 23:44

Enemy I can't remember are you a mathematical sort of teacher? It's a bit beyond me but sounds interesting.....

TrashedWarrior · 30/01/2021 07:14

Hmm and what would a childminder and related profession be exactly?

Sorry I've not been able to follow everything for a while; were primary teachers included in this data as a separate group? Were nursery staff? Obviously not Sen staff. We don't exist.

I'm trying not to get worked up about the vaccination of Sen staff thing. I'm very happy it's happening for some. Unhappy the dfe have put LAs and schools in this unequal position. Even some sld don't seem to be getting it in some places.

Sen are constantly treated like add ons. Even before Covid. I always feel we are left to make it up as we go. And yet are judged by the same standards as mainstream and more often by Ofsted.

Monkeytennis97 · 30/01/2021 07:24

@TrashedWarrior I know it doesn't help but bloody hell I value you all. My DS's teachers and TAs are amazing. He hasn't been back to school since October half term due to isolations but he misses them so much. Over the years I've cried many tears on them and they've picked me up time and again. Thank you and your colleagues for everything you do, I love going to DS's school- so much love and happiness there. I'm so angry at how you've all been treated, I've signed all the petitions and shared them all. I hope you all get the vaccine ASAP.

Piggywaspushed · 30/01/2021 07:29

Why does it keep taking Sarah Rasmussen to point these things out??

Piggywaspushed · 30/01/2021 07:35

I think you might have misunderstood born. lonely?

agree with you btw about the data thread : their general refusal to see school discussion as valid is a longstanding thing and - full on virtual scuffles have broken out on there about 'anecdata' . now that there definitely is data about schools, is bizarre. It's not as bad as it used to be! Would actually be amusing to go back to quite early ones as you can definitely see some denial of any issues in schools there! I think many posters on that one see schools as a boring side issue : which rather shows that not everyone is as focused on the schools issue as MN and the MSM woudl ahve you believe!
