You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

The occupation definitions are taken from death certificate entries, ie what the relative puts.

RandomGrammarPun · 27/01/2021 21:32

I was surprised by that, too, Piggy. But daren't comment.

noblegiraffe · 27/01/2021 21:34

Why do you not dare comment?

This isn’t something I’m generally afflicted with...

MrsHamlet · 27/01/2021 21:46

I can't imagine you as a delicate flower, noble - and I mean that as a compliment

Piggywaspushed · 27/01/2021 21:49

I think we don't want to appear to be suggesting healthcare workers are less endangered noble...

Staffdontblowitnow · 27/01/2021 21:56

@noblegiraffe

Justine Greening needs to specify where that 4 weeks of schooling will come from and who will be providing it.

Parents didn’t want the Great Summer Catch-Up last year either.

it didn't happen last year and it will not happen this year. There is no money to fund it and no teaching staff to do it as we are on summer break.

Luckily I have already booked a UK summer hols

@noblegiraffe

It appears that you shouldn’t start threads to try and bolster an argument you are having as it may not turn out as you hope.

Which is very funny.

My finger is positively red raw from hitting the report button over there.

I can never meet you lot.
JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 22:44

What? Do you long golden tresses and floating, ditsy print dresses noble?
Respect!

(All sorts of stereotyping going on here of course!)

I was thinking how completely weird it would be if we did all meet IRL, not least because some would look nothing like the vague images we probably have in our heads a bit like The Archers but without the voices.....

And then I realised that the voices I kind of hear when reading the posts on here, are all my voice - well, certainly, my accent.
Apart from @Mistressiggi and @DrMadelineMaxwell and @TrashedWarrior - although have no idea whether any of you are natives of your current locations.

Is it just me?

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 27/01/2021 22:45

@noblegiraffe I was on a maths course for both primary and secondary teachers once and I met a teacher who spoke in a way that you reminds me of. We had a lot of fun putting the world to rights over tea and biscuits. I always imagine you are her.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 27/01/2021 22:46

I always post from a mobile with a tiny screen, hence the random sentences!

CallmeAngelina · 27/01/2021 22:50

We started a conversation about this a few weeks back, actually. Then Events took over.

For the record, I look NOTHING like Angelina Jolie. But apparently I talk like that posh woman off Gogglebox. Steph?

JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 22:50
  • I meant it's a bit like imagining what characters in The Archers look like.

I'm rambling this evening.

Am glad we know what's happening for the next few weeks. But of course I don't have to teach online. Hope you all hold up.

Associate staff at our place were all emailed today to ask how they felt about the current rota for KWV supervision and how they'd feel about doing a little more, as we expect numbers to increase. It was acknowledged that some might be reluctant to come in and/or feel it was unfair that they had to come in when teachers didn't. I like our Deputy Head.

(Although our LA wrote to all parents today urging them (KW) to only send kids to school if absolutely necessary.)

JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 22:53

What Ange, not Mary of Giles and Mary? Can't think of any other posh ones!
Oh, the swears that led to banishment for a week take on a whole new delight now then....

borntobequiet · 27/01/2021 22:57

If someone posts quite frequently, I get a “picture” of what they’re like. On long running threads you learn quite a lot about the regulars, and you get an idea of how and why they have their particular opinions and interpretations. Your image of them may be based on someone (possibly) similar that you know.
If someone posts a lot, but I still can’t picture them - or imagine their reactions or views in a completely different situation or context - (there’s a particular poster I have in mind) then I assume they’re not a real person.

Well actually I've never watched it, but someone at work said I reminded them of Steph and Dom. But thinking about it, they might have been referring to the drinking!!
RandomGrammarPun · 27/01/2021 23:06

Steph and Dom were in the first series (or two?) They were hilarious. Fell off the back of their sofa laughing/pissed once.

JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 23:34

Ah have googled and am with you now! Hilarious.

noblegiraffe · 27/01/2021 23:48

Omg my kids have been playing Among Us all day and now I’ve really got to figure out who the imposter is??

noblegiraffe · 27/01/2021 23:49

For the record, I look NOTHING like Angelina Jolie.

Lies! Long dark hair that you toss back as you glamorously type sweary abuse.

RubyViolet · 27/01/2021 23:51

@EnemyOfEducationNo1

Who the fuck is talking shite on R4 right now?
BBC seemingly bookended the day with this. I woke up to UsforThem unchallenged on The World Service. The BBC are unquestionably accepting the Government’s daily agenda.
RubyViolet · 27/01/2021 23:55

And through my sleepy haze just about managed to hear another sympathetic person on the BBC World Service eulogising the Government’s new tutoring service, actively encouraging all parents to contact schools for extra free tutoring. 🤔

JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 23:55

Well I love R4 atm, because they had a weird 'Let's tape lots of snippets of newsworthy people speaking altogether in a weird dystopian mashup' thing at 11: guess whose voice was set to a backing of the theme tune from Some Mothers Do Have 'em ? Grin

JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 23:57

Interesting discussion on Data thread in last hour about children, schools, reports form Israel on new variant in children (last one only if you're feeling strong)

noblegiraffe · 27/01/2021 23:57

long golden tresses and floating, ditsy print dresses noble?

Grin no, I’m definitely not a floaty dress type.

There is, however, an excellent chance that if we did all meet up I would be too intimidated to say anything...
