You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I'd guess there's a lot of people with foresight on that one Herc. Hence the suggestion of a 2 week circuit breaker.

Still it's very important that we claim schools are still open. Even if kids aren't learning much due to poor quality last minute cover and terrible behaviour.

Oh my goodness, huge hugs and the alcohol of your choice to so many of you. X

@Piggywaspushed I would laugh if it actually wasn’t so true 😬

Augustbreeze · 09/11/2020 18:45

Oh I can completely see the ownership of room issue...

I wonder if there's anything teachers can do to counteract it? To make it feel like that teacher's space for that period? Is it almost worth taking pop up displayed/ bunting / whatever just to visually give that message, reinforced of course by how you are with them?

I have the luxury of throwing out such questions and probably riidiculous answers as the library is still our (mine and my boss's) territory. We're so fortunate.

It made me smile!

Staff morale v low here. No positive pupil cases, but a number of staff positive and workload increasing week by week. A general feeling that no-one gives a shit about the staff.

DollyMixtureLulus · 09/11/2020 18:48

Starting to hear murmurings of closing early for Christmas. We're not due to shut until the 22nd.

CallmeAngelina · 09/11/2020 18:53

"The kids' behaviour seems to be deteriorating weekly, I think they feel too much ownership of the room they're being taught in (we move, not them)"

That's really interesting. I hadn't thought of it in that way, but yes, they might well see it as teachers invading "their" patch.

Where are the murmurings coming from-SLT?

@Appuskidu Grin Great minds!

DollyMixtureLulus · 09/11/2020 18:56

Grin No, other staff hearing from this person and that person. It very well could be all absolute rubbish but I think it does make sense to quarantine everyone before they inevitably get together at Christmas/ NYE.

Grin

I agree-it does make sense.

Though it’s far more Bojo/Gavlar style to just try to tell school staff they can’t see their family over Christmas as they’re needed back at work on January 2nd!

DollyMixtureLulus · 09/11/2020 19:21

You don't go back on January 2nd, do you? That's so early!

most of Scotland still hungover then

SaltyAF · 09/11/2020 19:31

I'm just so upset. I've had crap learning walk feedback on a lesson that, now I've I've marked the work, produced outcomes well in excess of expectations. I couldn't meet the criteria because it was a group I rarely see and who had been self isolating for a fortnight prior to the lesson, but the judgement stands. When they've done their CTG I'm going to submit a sample to SLT because otherwise I'll just feel like I'm making sour excuses. It really is such good work.

What's the point?

SaltyAF · 09/11/2020 19:32

We heard murmurings of closing early for half term. I won't hold my breath.

CallmeAngelina · 09/11/2020 19:36

God, I remember once, just once, we went back on Jan 2nd with no INSET day!!!! It almost killed us.

What do you mean? We've just had half term?!
Danglingmod · 09/11/2020 19:40

We've frequently been back on 2nd January. I hate it. I'd rather have more holidays after Christmas than before. Because that's a proper break. Christmas build up is just eurgh...

SaltyAF · 09/11/2020 19:40

I mean the word was that schools would be closing early for half term but they didn't, so I can't see it happening at Christmas.

MrsHamlet · 09/11/2020 19:42

We've had that too. It was brutal.
phlebasconsidered · 09/11/2020 19:44

I am furious tonight.

We have been "told off" for being too near to each other in the photocopier room.

FUCK OFF! I'm in a room with 32 kids all day and I mix bubbles all the time supervising break and lunch. If I get it it will not be because we had a brief chat 2m apart where the pissing photocopier is. It will be the fact that I'm in a room all day with my class and I wipe their tables and loo. So fuck off. This is all just to make it my fault if I get it.

In other news my sister is feeling better (but still shit) and has not been contacted about her reinfection despite her GP alerting PHE. It's on her medical record that this is her second infection but they are fudging it. Apparently the fact that her son had a confirmed test and she was also ill and sent home by the hospital in March without a test (becausethere weren't any) means that her illness then cannot have been covid ( even though the hospital and gp said it was). And here begins the gaslighting. For her and me. It sucks.

4 kids in my class had a bonfire sleepover. None of them are distancing outside school. My kids school has shut year 10 and 11. And I still have my appraisal, observations and assessments. I hate this. It's a massive bag of wank.(old Tankgirl reference. I need to be more Tankgirl).

WhenSheWasBad · 09/11/2020 19:46

Starting back on 2nd Jan sounds tough.

Loads of rumours at my school regarding blended learning / pupils learning from home from 2nd Dec.

I doubt lockdown is going to work. Roads are maybe slightly quieter but not much. So I think something will have to a change in education to stop it spreading.

MrsHamlet · 09/11/2020 19:47

phlebas it is a massive bag of wank created by an enormous fuckwittery of wankbadgers.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/11/2020 19:50

Do you ever mark a set of assessments and just look at the marks and think "I must be really crap, they don't know anything". I'm in a proper grump today, and marking these tests has made me even more grumpy. Things we have done every single lesson since September and they still can't do it!! (I did then look at grade boundaries and felt much better)

Yes often, but the batch I'm particularly pleased with, the learning walk came out average 🤷 It's all bollocks and I'm sick of it.
