You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Thinking of you, Monkey Flowers

Nellodee - how are your parents about rolling year closure? But, more interestingly, have you amended timetable at all or are the kids basically losing the same lesson each week and tough if it's your one MFL lesson etc?

Nellodee · 09/11/2020 17:40

They're missing the same lessons each week. I think they tried to pick the days the kids had PE on and based it around that.

We're a secondary, so I don't think there is the same amount of uproar that there would be in a primary.

Anyone watch Boris at the briefing completely sidestep a question on schools and teachers?

Yup. Yet again.
TheHoneyBadger · 09/11/2020 17:43

Thanks for the directions. Mumsnet now works on chrome again I discovered so hopefully don’t have to rely on the clunky app anymore.

Hearty pasta bake for dinner. Carbs needed in the hopes of building some serotonin. Played annoying top trumps cars game with ds after school and am counting that as quality time and giving myself a tick for that and the home cooked meal.

If I could just get ds to go to school and me to vacuum and catch up on laundry in between marking tomorrow I may give myself my favourite’great work’ stamp.

What was he asked?
TheHoneyBadger · 09/11/2020 17:45

Should I watch the briefing or will it push me over the edge?

Hercwasonaroll · 09/11/2020 17:47

Two more bubbles shut here. Staff on their knees. External supply trying to fire fight. Planned 8 cover lessons this morning just for our dept.

Feels very much like hanging on by our last legs.

SLT sending out bullshit tasks that will have no impact on students progress. Anyone fancy making a careers poster FFS.

CallmeAngelina · 09/11/2020 17:48

Thinking of you @monkeytennis97

@Piggywaspushed, you stopped aching yet, after your fall?

I'm due back in school tomorrow, for half a day. Then the week's nearly half gone!

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 17:48

He was asked why teachers weren't on JVT's list for vaccines given Boris' determination to keep education open.

He appeared flummoxed by the question , waffled a bit and constructed an answer with not one single reference to the question.

He didn't even try to get JVT to make up some shit stat about why it wasn't necessary.

Funnily enough we described teaching today as ‘fighting fire’.
Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 17:48

ange, bit better today. Bruises now gone very black!

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 17:50

Our kids' behaviour seems suddenly worse to me. I reckon some kids are getting entire days of supply. No offence intended ; it is just not the normal routines for them and very ad hoc. Our in house cover teachers aren't very good on the behaviour management front either.

Saucery · 09/11/2020 17:53

I find Ch4 News gives good edited highlights of briefings that have all the info with a limited amount of BJ so you don’t throw things at the telly. Plus, Matt Frei’s increasing elation over in the US is a tonic to watch.

Thinking of you, monkey Flowers. I’m meeting and talking to more and more people every week who have had Covid and recovered well, if that helps (including CV ). Although I realise that the distance and not being able to visit can’t help in your situation so please don’t think I’m downplaying your fears.

I am knackered. But today was the most ‘normal’ day I’ve had since Feb in work, so that was nice. M&S masks are rubbish, however, so give them a miss if anyone is looking at buying them. They are tiny and I don’t have a particularly large face or nose.

monkeytennis97 · 09/11/2020 17:59

Thank you @Saucery and everyone. So worried for my beautiful boy, just wish I could bring him home.

Hercwasonaroll · 09/11/2020 18:01

Yes to kids getting full days of cover. And it's not good quality cover either. It's whatever rubbish we can print off in 30 seconds before the bell goes.

Loshad · 09/11/2020 18:03

Hugs @monkeytennis97, hope you can get to see your boy soon

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 09/11/2020 18:08

We seem to have loads of cover going on too - a couple of teachers aren't in at all, I don't know if that's bc they are cev or what. Some of the supply teachers are amazing but others not so much. The kids' behaviour seems to be deteriorating weekly, I think they feel too much ownership of the room they're being taught in (we move, not them)

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/11/2020 18:12

It sounds really, really tough in some of your schools Flowers

We've just sent home about 30 from year 7 today. There are kids in other years who have symptoms, have family members with positive tests, but are refusing to get tests for the kids. So we can't isolate anyone because there isn't a confirmed positive. It feels rather ridiculous!!!

Absolutely this. I feel like I’m invading the students my territory now. It’s their room and they own it.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/11/2020 18:26

IME it doesn't really matter how good the behaviour management of the supply is or the behaviour systems are if the kids are having a lot of different supply teachers and they don't know who's going to be teaching them from one day to the next. Especially given the Covid situation is probably causing issues.

Why did we not start this 'lockdown' on the earlier of the two half term weeks and make a 2 week half term compulsory.

Hercwasonaroll · 09/11/2020 18:29

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. A 2 week lockdown would have helped so so much.

Instead we get this shit show of a government.
