You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

eitak, I agree that your head has probably inaccurately explained to PHE. We had this in the opposite direction when a member of staff was made to stay off longer than any guidance would say!

monkeytennis97 · 10/11/2020 08:21

@motherrunner just phoned again, bless them (the staff) I feel like I'm hassling them. DS sounds fine, he doesn't understand why I'm phoning at 8.15 in the morning as we usually phone in the evening. Just so worried for all of them. The care home manager is wonderful, angels they really are.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/11/2020 08:41

Echt if you’re reading I just saw your pm and tried to reply but it won’t send. Sorry. The app doesn’t say you have messages and chrome is still a bit glitchy with the site.

starrynight19 · 10/11/2020 08:44

eitak22 sorry your head has to you to go in. That’s completely incorrect as I was made to go home from school as soon as dp told me he was going for a test.
Apparently that’s the most contagious time. What a worry to be made to go into school when you know you shouldn’t be.

Whoops meant to send that to MNHQ worrying now I've said too much on here..

Augustbreeze · 10/11/2020 09:39

BBC article on the Ofsted findings after 900 school visits since Sept. Lots of interesting stuff inc what they found, their basic analysis, Geoff Barton comment and (useless) government response:

monkeytennis97 · 10/11/2020 09:43

@Augustbreeze Maybe it's just my mental state at the moment but I read it that 'this is why schools must stay open!'. Yet more pressure heaped on us teachers.

Augustbreeze · 10/11/2020 09:44

Oh yeah l dreamt about seeing @ohthegoats (fleetingly, from behind) last night GrinConfused

My subconscious never ceases to amaze me!

GravityFalls · 10/11/2020 09:51

DS is self isolating until the 18th now. He’s at home with DP (who is not his dad and is self employed and has to work during the day) and I’ve set him up on Teams on my laptop, his home learning pack and leftover lockdown books I bought for him. I’ve just logged into his Teams as him to see what’s going on and it’s such a shitshow, I feel so sorry for his teacher! They’re nice kids and trying hard but firstly there’s 30 “good morning” messages, then a LOT about “what do I do on this page” “what is this book for” and so on. I thought my classes were annoying on Teams but 9-11 year olds are something else. It has kept me very amused this morning though!

Augustbreeze · 10/11/2020 09:54

Oh definitely @monkeytennis97!

When actually it needs to be

'This is what we have to figure how to mitigate when/if schools have to close again'

ie 'How can families and children be better supported by all the services that normally only deal with the most obvious/serious/longest-waiting cases, leaving schools to mop up everyone else including those who are still very much in need?'

And
'This is what social services, health visitors, CAMHS, youth services, Surestart, GPs, etc have to be able to monitor and support next time. Because although that might increase risknto some professionals slightly, it won't be nearly the danger of ramming 100s of kids and adults into crowded corridors or 32 people in one room for 6 hours without masks.'

But I know those are nearly all 1:1 services therefore they couldn't deal with the volume, even pre-social distancing. The huge advantage of schools is crowd access.

Sorry I'll shut up now!

Piggywaspushed · 10/11/2020 10:08

Oh, that is so correct august!! All of it!

TheHoneyBadger · 10/11/2020 12:25

And this is why social services need to intervene faster and more effectively in cases of neglect.

We can’t do everything and we can’t counter utter neglect be it causing physical problems or emotional and behavioural issues of attachment disorders.

Honestly find it horrific that children are left in known abusive homes and schools being open is considered enough for them.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/11/2020 12:28

Posted too soon. I’ve marked a set of assessments and gotten a set of reports finished and 2 just needing progress column filling in when I mark their assessments. Think I may have gotten ahead a bit.

Tomorrow is a full on day but once I get past that the rest of the week is relatively smooth

RigaBalsam · 10/11/2020 12:36

Wales? Head line says GCSE cancelled but the article says an external paper but done with teachers.
Hmm

motherrunner · 10/11/2020 12:46

Year 13 out again. 4th period of isolation. They only came back Friday!

What with Key Stage 3 asked to stay home and so many staff off, it’s like the Mary Celeste. A student in my form said ‘we should play a game ... spot the teacher!’

Isthatitnow · 10/11/2020 12:52

French teachers are out on strike due to covid issues! About time someone did something.

Spot on👏🏼
PumpkinPie2016 · 10/11/2020 13:02

Well, 3 people down in dept today -2 waiting for test results, one sick with something else.

Also just found out that half my y13 class have to isolate. Using a camera tomorrow so they can be in the lesson from home.

Losing the plot with so many isolaters!

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/11/2020 13:16

Spot on monkey and august.

Omg I though I just heard the lesser spotted Gav on the radio 😱

It's not, just a welsh teacher dude.

foxesandsquirrels · 10/11/2020 13:37

@Augustbreeze interesting. My DD's school has Ofsted in today. They are not doing parent surveys as they called it a 'friendly' visit, so I'm wondering how they are getting all this information.

Piggywaspushed · 10/11/2020 13:52

Ugh... so fed up of not being able to get through a corridor without a mask or one way confrontation!!

Piggywaspushed · 10/11/2020 13:55

Just mentioned this to my sociology class re Ofsted. They all said 'but what about the parents'' roles?!'

Good for them!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 10/11/2020 14:34

Next republic will start later

Surely parents have some responsibilities for use of cutlery and toilet training!
