You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@monkeytennis97
We had only one case up to half term, then it has gone absolutely bonkers and we have approx ( have lost count ) 20 cases in kids and 4 I think in staff. We have one whole year group out. Circa 2000 kids in school.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/11/2020 20:06

I used to find it really depressing marking tests in science. I’d think god what a shit score then pop it on the mark sheet only to realise it was above their expected progress. I actually found that even more depressing. Imagine being dragged through 5years+ of full time secondary education with it already decided you’re not expected to get more than 10% on tests?

So much of school seems like a waste of time. Might just be the mood I’m in.

CallmeAngelina · 09/11/2020 20:07

"This is all just to make it my fault if I get it."

I HATE being manipulated and made to look a fool. This would INFURIATE me!!!!! How dare they.

MrsHamlet · 09/11/2020 20:23

Yes, MrsAD
Although I did laugh today when one of my year 11 came out with a grade 7 against his target 3. I think his scribe might have been doing more than scribing... I'm good but not that good 😂

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/11/2020 20:28

Kirsty Williams is set to announce what will or will not happen with regards to Welsh GCSEs and A Levels tomorrow. Finally. It will be such a weight off my dd's mind if she finds it's teacher assessments and coursework as she's doing really well with them but stresses about missed time (2 lots of self isolating so far due to cases as well as her own non-covid illness in Sept and they are only just back in from half term due to the extra week they were told to distance learn from).

I agree. School is all about the busywork.
SmileEachDay · 09/11/2020 20:48

monkey big love. What a stressful situation.

Re the kids having “ownership” of the room - two friends at schools who are doing the crazy teacher moving dance are:

  1. Making kids line up in silence outside room, then getting them back in to start her lesson.

  2. Making the kids stand up in silence behind their chairs before she gives permission to sit down.

Both have helped a bit I think.

I’m so grateful I’m mainly teaching in one space.

Local schools are going down like flies in this area. We have a whole support team out isolating.

It’s honestly ridiculous that the govt are still pretending it’s business as usual in schools.

Oops. Just posted a resentful post on the "schools will shut" thread, thinking it was here and I might have a slightly forgiving and understanding crowd!!!
Have asked for it to be removed. Hope they're quick before I get eaten alive.

monkeytennis97 · 09/11/2020 20:51

Thanks @SmileEachDay just want to see my boy. See hundreds of other people's kids a week and can't see my own. Fucking virus.

CallmeAngelina · 09/11/2020 20:53

When did you last see him, Monkey?

SmileEachDay · 09/11/2020 20:54

just want to see my boy

I can only imagine how hard the physical distance is. Fuck OFF virus!!

Angelina ooooops!!

It's completely rubbish for you monkey. I wish I could do something to help, but I'll have to settle for sending my love from here. Flowers
namechangedyetagain · 09/11/2020 20:56

Oh gosh. It's only Monday and I feel done. I'm feeling I'm not allowed to whine as I don't really qualify. I think my stress has shown on my face to everyone today.

I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to manage to get through placement. I'm worrying so much I can't focus. I need to calm down and breathe. And sleep. And maybe try again tomorrow. I just need to keep going. But I always have that voice "what if I'm really not up to it".

Sorry for everyone having an awful time. I really have nothing to whinge about in comparison Flowers

name you're as entitled as the rest of us. Try to break it down as much as you can - you can't do all the things at once so pick one or two things and nibble away it that way.

SmileEachDay · 09/11/2020 20:59

name

What do you need to focus on most? Top 3 priorities?

MrsHamlet · 09/11/2020 21:00

Great minds smile

SmileEachDay · 09/11/2020 21:01

We saw him for about 5 seconds but it was like liquid gold just to see him

❤️

Saucery · 09/11/2020 21:09

You’ll see him again, monkey. This will all be like a bad dream one day. He’s young, he’s not a risk group, they’ve dragged their heels with care homes but they are starting to put into place what they should have done from the start. Stark, bare stats say he will be ok. But I can imagine how much it hurts to be kept away from him and I am sorry.

@monkeytennis97

Am I alone in a school that has apparently had no cases? Tier 2 largish secondary. Can't believe it myself... feels like radio silence.
We've had no positive results either, a few kids have been self isolating but no bubbles sent home. I'm south west, itty bitty secondary.
Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 09/11/2020 21:20

@SmileEachDay I've been trying the stand up as I enter thing since half term and I think it's helping. What doesn't help is that I'm sure year 9 are officially feral and year 8 are on the way there Sad

Danglingmod · 09/11/2020 21:28

Year 9 in my school are glorious. Literally the nicest year group I have ever known. Year 8 and 10, on the other hand...

Didn’t see it but here’s hoping my comment replicates what you wanted to say.

They can come at me if they like.

SmileEachDay · 09/11/2020 21:37

We have some very challenging Y9 classes. Y8 are either lush or bonkers. And - bizarrely- we have a group of Y7s who are literally feral. They spend all day trying to roam the school like some sort of miniature Mad Maxesque gang. It’s most bizarre.
