You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

True @Keepdistance. Someone on Data says she knows a couple of sec. schools in NW planning to go to rota after Dec 2. (Although before would make more sense? Perhaps not in terms of allowing parents to plan for it though)

Augustbreeze · 09/11/2020 09:36

Correction, the poster said those schools were starting rota today. Piggy has understandably asked her whether they are in fact sixth form colleges.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 10:23

I think a few NW secondaries did go to rotas recently because they didn't have enough staff.

Positive case in year 10 today.

Head very keen to point out that it seems to be community transmission.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 10:23

A lot of unis break up at the same time as schools, especially as they started later this year.

GravityFalls · 09/11/2020 11:37

Twenty minutes into teaching my lesson 1 I see my phone light up with a text from DS’s school - his bubble has been sent home. Luckily DP is self employed and works from home so could get him. Awaiting info on whether this is just for today while they track contacts or longer-term.

Appuskidu · 09/11/2020 11:49

More positive cases in year 12 and year 10 at DC school here.

MistressIggi · 09/11/2020 13:25

We are definitely not sending year groups home, just close contacts.
We don't hear much about what happens

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 13:48

The Teacher Tapp questions on that annoy me. There is no choice for close contacts of a case sent open, so in the results it looks like about 78% of respondents'' schools have no disruption.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 13:49

sent home

GravityFalls · 09/11/2020 14:23

Well the whole of DS’s bubble (three year 5/6 classes) are now self-isolating until the 18th. I think DP will just stay home with him but I’ve told my HOD I’ll need to work from home on occasion. DP is a photographer so sometimes goes out on shoots but obviously not much is going on during lockdown so that’s not so bad.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/11/2020 16:02

Still alive.

Very much dragging myself through the motions.

Does anyone know how you get to pms on the app? I can't find it

Nellodee · 09/11/2020 16:18

We're kind of on a rota here - each year stays at home for one day a week. It's more of a "how can we cobble together the staff to keep this place up and running" rota, than a "how can we lower transmission and keep cases from growing exponentially" rota, though. We still have full(-ish) classes and full(-ish) year groups. SLT are really doing their best, but we are fighting a rising tide. I'm still holding out hope that lockdown-lite turns it for us.

Where are you@Nellodee? How are parents being about it?

motherrunner · 09/11/2020 16:39

Survived being a one woman dept. Two more year groups are being asked to stay home. It’s an absolute nightmare!

I reported that to them @piggy and got an email saying they would redo the question to take that into account...
marplemead · 09/11/2020 16:48

Well done @motherrunner

We had another year group sent home today.

I got in early and spoke to my HT about my pregnancy. He was more supportive than I expected. But initial conversation today with HR suggests that my risk assessment will be carry on as normal, with the onus on me to sd Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 16:48

I sometimes wonder : how can they not KNOW??

MrsHerculePoirot · 09/11/2020 16:50

Glad you’ve told them @marplemead - advice from our union is to speak to GP/midwives if people think their risk assessment isn’t enough or they are worriedz

@motherrunner go you 💪💪💪

@Piggywaspushed

I’ve come home, am exhausted beyond belief and have a sore throat.... 😱

Nellodee · 09/11/2020 16:58

North Lincolnshire here. The newspaper's Facebook page is full of parents saying "Shut the schools now!"

Our newspaper is full of articles about schools sending kids home and the hospitals running out of oxygen, though, and we've shot up from being one of the places with the lowest cases in September to being the 4th worst place in the country now. I think people are starting to take it seriously here at the moment.

It's a shame, as we had a 2 week break and came back to find the caretakers had squeezed an foot or so space at the front of our classes, plus half the kids had started wearing masks. I was holding out hope that combined with lockdown-lite, we might be doing enough. I really hope that we hit a peak soon and start coming back down. The poor hospital staff must be really suffering.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2020 17:04

Lincs is in a bit of a mess. DS is in Lincoln and there are students SI everywhere!
