You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Hello all! I'm fookin shattered, bedtime now! Night all x

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/11/2020 20:41

Checking in so I don't lose you all. I'm exhausted, I want to go to bed, but dd's bedtime isn't til 9, so I've got to stay up til at least then. She's only 10, I can't go to bed before her unless I'm actually ill.

hedgehogger1 · 02/11/2020 20:42

@MsAwesomeDragon what subject are you? I've got a similar sounding science group to your nurture group

DreamingofBrie · 02/11/2020 20:45

Checking in. Hope everyone who had a first day in today is ok Flowers.

Loshad · 02/11/2020 20:48

Knackering day today, full 6 periods and the y7s p6 were not well behaved, aatgh

Medra · 02/11/2020 20:50

Today was ok. It will feel really strange on Thursday though I think.

CallmeAngelina · 02/11/2020 20:51

Can I ask a question: does a teacher have to consent to having all their lessons in class live-streamed via video to a pupil at home? What happens if they don't agree?

MrsHamlet · 02/11/2020 20:51

How bad would it be to eat a whole pint of rice pudding?

namechangedyetagain · 02/11/2020 20:56

Pretty awful day today, also heading to bed now. I'm supposed to be teaching maths tomorrow and so worried about it (the teaching, not the maths) , and it may get pulled last minute.

I too am off to bed as my middle child also didn't sleep last night and so ended up with me fidgeting all night. Been absolutely shattered today!

Saucery · 02/11/2020 21:03

I’ve been getting my Christmas on with online shopping, all courtesy of a brilliant thread where people post links to their favourite small suppliers. Warm, cosy non-Amazon glow to see off the general gloom. Smile

We can do this. We shouldn’t have to, but we know we will do our absolute best. With humour, tenacity and thermals. But blimey, is really only Tuesday tomorrow Shock

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2020 21:04

Evening.

starrynight19 · 02/11/2020 21:11

Yes Saucery think I need to head onto the Christmas threads much more and stay away from the school ones Wink

Appuskidu · 02/11/2020 21:12

Were things much different at school for those of you who were in today? Are SLT keen for people to be offsite promptly or is it just business as usual?

eitak22 · 02/11/2020 21:13

Wow that last thread didn't last long at all. Today was an inset and managed to get a load of jobs done i've needed to for a while so that was good. If I'm honest im kinda dreading tomorrow - imagine a lot of our children will be unsettled by the lockdown news.

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/11/2020 21:14

Checking in. First day back for me tomorrow. Well done those of you who did today.

@MsAwesomeDragon I’ve got a 19 yr old - sometimes send her to ‘bed’ earlier and she reads or plays in her room with then I can go to bed 🤣

CountDuckulasKetchup · 02/11/2020 21:14

Callme, unfortunately I think we have to. I checked with our regional union rep as I was considering quitting over the issue as it was stressing me out so much. He said it was OK as long as it addressed the points in their guidance. Which it did so I'm stuck doing it. Now regretting not quitting as today's lessons were much shitter than normal due to divided attention. Also awaiting the inevitable parental complaints of can my child move away from x seeing as you had to tell them off x times in one lesson and they can't concentrate etc. I normally pride myself on working really hard and going the extra mile, but I really have no fucks left to give.

MrsHamlet · 02/11/2020 21:14

Our head wants us out as quickly as possible.
No after school clubs at all.
He's buying visors for the corridors.
I'm allowed to observe but only under specific constraints - but no obs/work scrutinies/visitors at all.
It's school but not as we know it.

Frlrlrubert · 02/11/2020 21:16

I'm currently four in a bed (DH, dog, DD, me) next to a roasting four year old. I'm really not sure I got enough proper stuff on her swab to get a result. If it's inconclusive I might cry.

One of the staff at her nursery tested positive at the weekend, but they said it's not someone she's had close contact with so who knows?

I wonder if she'll let me have a bit of a lie in before I have to wake up to phone in? That would be nice.

Saucery · 02/11/2020 21:18

Very different, even to the first lockdown keyworker provision. Covid is in our school and it doesn’t seem to want to leave. No one is having long conversations with each other, every meeting is online. Children seem lively and joyous though, which is lovely to see and hear.
No one stays after their hours, teacher or support staff. We are not expected to or encouraged to - everything that can be done at home should be done at home, is the message.

CallmeAngelina · 02/11/2020 21:19

@CountDuckulasKetchup, thanks.
(am asking for a friend, so will pass on). All day, every day, every lesson? (Primary)

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/11/2020 21:20

@CallmeAngelina re live streaming we’re training everyone, but are not going to make anyone do it that doesn’t want to. We also won’t be letting any classes with awful behaviour or not so great teachers do it - but we’d be subtle about managing that. Our school has had a bad rep for such a long time and we are on the up but cannot afford long term to let that slip...

CallmeAngelina · 02/11/2020 21:23

"but are not going to make anyone do it that doesn’t want to."
So what happens in that case?
Can parents insist that all lessons are videoed live and sent?

hw09aam · 02/11/2020 21:33

I’ve been a recent lurker here. I’m 25 weeks pregnant. My school is pretty good, but fed up of the walking around with my painful hips and PGP. Spent the whole day trying to get my exam classes to focus as they all think that exams will be cancelled and are about as fed up as teachers!

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/11/2020 21:37

We’re secondary so maybe different but we were thinking that rather than 5 teachers have to live stream at the same time for five different classes - we could have one person live streaming and the others just teaching for example. Or if a teacher teaches 5 different classes from same year they could ‘record’ one or pre-record if they prefer (eg narrate ppt or something) then put that up for all the classes

We also aren’t going to do it necessarily for whole lessons and are treating those at home as viewers rather than participants a bit if that makes sense.

It’s all a bit playing by ear tbh... but trying to support staff.
