You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

We have been doing masks indoors in communal areas since September. I reckon there is about 90% compliance? The same kids repeatedly forget them and we have no sanctions for this. They do need to be nagged to use them, but as long as all the teachers are doing the nagging, then they do wear them.

It means all staff have to wear masks or visors to set a good example too!

I do appreciate it, and it does make me feel a bit safer in school. Lesson change over is definitely the time when it is impossible for staff to socially distance.

RigaBalsam · 03/11/2020 18:56

We have had masks since September too. Teachers can wear when not teaching too or a visor the whole time. They have been pretty good to be fair.

It's same y11 pupils that have them hanging off their face so teachers are constantly giving them negative points.

Monbiot was asking for 'secret' info about the real situation in schools via DM on Twitter on Thursday last week. This is why.

I refused to run the staff mtg in person today. Head cancelled it, but was unhappy. I also questioned her on the remote learning stuff. Took an hour and a half to get my one self isolator sorted out today. Gah. Apparently I should take 15 mins to do it, and have a TA cover my class for the 15 mins 1-1 on teams every day with each SI child.

a) no TA
b) what if I've got 5 kids off? TA has class for hour and a half while I teach online 1-1.

Had a Year 10 student cheerfully say his mum has covid today. Ten mins later he was collected by SLT following my e-mail.

Some people have no sense!

The mum for sending him or him for telling all and sundry??? GrinShock

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/11/2020 19:20

@Appuskidu

This is bizarre to me. It also seems to encourage people to get back to work ASAP even if they’re still ill as they’ve done their time?!

Or to 10 days was the idea I think.

DollyMixtureLulus · 03/11/2020 19:28

People are definitely avoiding testing children because they won't stay in for 14 days. However, I don't think these people would stay in for 7 days either tbh.

MrsHamlet · 03/11/2020 19:30

We've had parents openly tell us that they won't make their kids self isolate. Apparently it's against their human rights.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/11/2020 19:35

I agree, 7 or 10 days won't make a difference.

Augustbreeze · 03/11/2020 19:44

"Human rights" have an awful lot to answer for, these days

(Not ACTUAL human rights of course!)

Danglingmod · 03/11/2020 19:44

Blimey, Staff!

Saucery · 03/11/2020 19:45

Child removed from class mid morning. Parent was waiting for test result (their own) and came to collect child when result came back Positive.
Several seen out and about in half term when they should have been isolating. Their children shouldn’t be shut away, apparently, it wasn’t fair.
Fuck “fair”. Tell that to the staff and children who are ill. We really are in the age of Selfishness, aren’t we?

Hercwasonaroll · 03/11/2020 19:50

I'll hold my hand up here, I took my child out for walks when he was isolating. I couldn't keep him sane and in the house for 14 days. We stayed away from people and walked mostly in countryside. But people who saw me may have judged.

There's a whole mafia style contingent of parents at our local primary who won't test their kids.

Saucery · 03/11/2020 19:56

Your call, Herc. Can’t say I wouldn’t do the same if circumstances meant keeping sane. This was trips to the local supermarket though 😡.
Set against a background of 6 positives amongst children and 2 staff members in one class I don’t think it is acceptable.

monkeytennis97 · 03/11/2020 19:57

Did anyone see the link I posted? from The Express? French high school kids rioting due to lack of social distancing in the lycees and the fact schools are still open in the lockdown.

Saucery · 03/11/2020 20:02

Be more effective if they did a sit down protest at home and refused to go in, surely!

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 03/11/2020 20:17

I've gone for mask in school now regardless of what the rest of the staff are doing. I wear mine the whole time unless I am actually stood at the front teaching. All the time in corridor, photocopier room and when circulating the room to talk to children. The children are fine with it - KS2 and not bothered at all. Should have done it before but was worried about SLT. Don't give a fuck any more.

Guardian article is good.

They should come and read these threads. You lot could pretty much write their articles for them.

Loshad · 03/11/2020 20:18

We have just this week introduced masks for all on the corridors and so far compliance has been really good. 🤞

The fail has got hold of the lockdown study now. Hmm

monkeytennis97 · 03/11/2020 20:25

I've been wearing a mask since September and teaching in it too, despite others looking at me as if I'm nuts until going back after half term and being in tier 2 now everyone is wearing them in corridors and communal areas. Feel much happier but wish kids would wear them in class. I use a headset mic too to help with communication.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 03/11/2020 20:33

Headset mic! Very swish!

I wish our school would make them compulsory for staff in communal areas. I mean why not???

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/11/2020 20:36

My kids would be leading healthier lives if their clubs didn't keep getting cancelled...

trampolining was back today for the 1 session. Mine adored it. We all understand why they cannot run. But it does seem pointless they cannot run when they only have 20 socially distanced kids - 1 on the trampoline and the others sat lined against the walls, 2 metres apart and 4 socially distanced adults on trampolines, in a huge, airy and well ventilated sports hall. Yet you can have 30 kids crammed within less than a metre of their neighbours and poor ventilation, a staff member stuck in a 2 metre box and a TA who is ok to spend no more than 15 minutes within 1 metre of a static student.

But it was lovely to see their club mates and coaches after nearly 8 months off and an afternoon which reduced me to tears. I pride myself on being a strong person normally, but the behaviour of the class, lack of interest in dealing with it from the supply teacher and knowing how badly this was affecting my supported students, who were impossible to get on task just did me. So a sob on my colleagues shoulder was how I finished my day. Oops!

MrsHamlet · 03/11/2020 20:37

I had a headset after my stroke killed my voice. I felt very exotic ... the English teacher version of Billie Piper.
