You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

But if adults were 8 percent higher in the summer but now aren't though evidence isn't overwhelming. Sigh!

Piggywaspushed · 03/11/2020 17:35

Is that Whitty being allowed to get away with using that old study?? Or If Sample literally said not two days ago that lots of young females from education ,amongst other workplaces, were in hospital

Piggywaspushed · 03/11/2020 17:40

That should say Prof Semple

RigaBalsam · 03/11/2020 17:42

Just read that workplace canteens need to close unless there is no alternative . Ours are FINE though, obviously.

Well yea it's in a school so protected by the covid wall filters and the magic air.

Good article from George Monbiot in the Guardian - covers several areas of concern really succinctly.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/11/2020 17:57

Did I just hear right on the radio that Boris wants to halve the self isolation time for people testing positive to 7 days??

Yes they announced that over half term - when our bubble closed I was 6 days in without knowing!

It's based on research around when the majority of people first display symptoms which is in the first 3-5 days.

They think it will encourage more compliance to test and actually self isolate.

Appuskidu · 03/11/2020 17:58

This is bizarre to me. It also seems to encourage people to get back to work ASAP even if they’re still ill as they’ve done their time?!

Danglingmod · 03/11/2020 18:00

Still no update to the shielding advice OR to schools' guidance, both of which were promised for today. Appalling.

Piggywaspushed · 03/11/2020 18:03

That Guardian article is great and a bit of a change in direction for them. Shame they weren't asking these questions before.

I like his understanding if the consequences of sending some home.

I didn't know they didn't ask about break s.

RigaBalsam · 03/11/2020 18:05

Guardian article is good. Better than everything I have read today.

And the hazard tape.

Augustbreeze · 03/11/2020 18:05

We're moving to mandatory masks in communal areas for all, inc in wraparound, from Thursday.

So many articles I want to read!

Danglingmod · 03/11/2020 18:06

It's so starkly pointed out that it's basically goons on the end of the helpline "reading off a script."

In the daily report of school closures in my local press, there is a marked change in the comments below to much more "schools should close now!" from "so what?" a couple of weeks ago (though numbers of schools involved have been significant for weeks - it's not due to a sudden uptick).

Danglingmod · 03/11/2020 18:07

I really, really, really hope my school goes to masks in communal areas. Very anxious that we don't already.

starrynight19 · 03/11/2020 18:13

Refreshing to read that guardian article.

Piggywaspushed · 03/11/2020 18:15

Our head refused to even consider masks in a union meeting yesterday.

Augustbreeze · 03/11/2020 18:17

Sorry guys....

Have just learnt it's masks outside too. Everywhere except lessons and when eating and drinking basically. With sanctions planned after a few days "settling in period".

DollyMixtureLulus · 03/11/2020 18:18

We're all wearing masks everywhere now. TBH I'm starting to wish the children had them too and I was very against that previously. I'm quite small and my biggest children are more or less the same height as me already. We're all walking along in their breath if that makes sense.

WhyNotMe40 · 03/11/2020 18:27

I actually saw another teacher wearing a mask in the corridor today!

Ds1’s school have been doing this since September and it seems to be working relatively well. My school have just started this, and it’s chaos at the moment but hopefully will improve. A lot of students are really relieved to be able to wear a mask.

Our principal has been brilliant throughout, and makes it really clear that staff safety is just as important as student safety. I wish I could clone her and send her to those of you with rubbish heads!

Flowers to everyone working and self isolating this week. Fingers crossed that everything else being closed will give us a bit of protection. Not that I’m at all convinced it will work, but I’m trying faking optimism as otherwise I’d have to drink and there’s no alcohol anywhere in the house Smile

Danglingmod · 03/11/2020 18:47

My Head/school/MAT are generally brilliant in all sorts of ways, but masks are such a sticking point. Not banned but not encouraged. I think it's because we're officially tier 1 (or were before all this) but actually with really high case numbers locally and all around and every single school in our area (primary and secondary) has had numerous cases.
